At house parties there was always that one person in the long black coat who refused to take it off.

Somebody always brought 20/20, drank too much of it and fell asleep in the corner.

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2020 21:43

As soon as smells like teen spirit came on the cd player someone would turn it right up.

Secret raves and squat parties. After parties, sleeping was cheating.

tectonicplates · 16/06/2020 21:54

When we were under 18, there was always that one friend who looked older and usually got served, so we'd send him to the off licence on our behalf.

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2020 21:55

I've never been to a rave or a squat party but I was always told eating was cheating

Boys with curtains were hot. Now I think they looked ridiculous

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 16/06/2020 21:57

Skinny white tee under a slip dress. Worn with Docs. Fucks sake.

Nestofvipers · 16/06/2020 22:05

@LadyMonicaBaddingham

I thought that was such a good look (at the time).

Baggy jeans, baggy lumberjack shirt, skinny t shirt underneath worn with docs. Stripey tights, tasseled tie dye skirt and skinny t shirt with docs.

In fact any outfit could be improved by wearing bit with DMs. Extra style points for colourful DMs and colourful laces.

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2020 22:06

Oh god the lumberjack shirts
And combat trousers
Not girlie ones, cheap ones

Chopping off my Levi's in the spring to make knee length shorts.

purplepandas · 16/06/2020 22:09

Castaways, blastaways, dewberry and fuzzy peach. More magazine. Sun in spray, the ability to kill your hair in one foul swoop.

AdoptedBumpkin · 16/06/2020 22:09

I loved my Doc Martens. Was a simpler time.

StealthPolarBear · 16/06/2020 22:11

Is more still going

Crop tee with some sort of slogan, A-line mini and buffalo trainers or
Marharashi combats.
Two dogs and hooch, Moscow mule.

ColourMeExhausted · 16/06/2020 22:13

The person in the black coat Grin made me laugh because it was so true!

Making a four pack of cider last between about 15 people.

Pouring most of a bottle of spirits into a litre bottle of cheap coke and swigging it on the way to the party. I will never touch Tia Maria again.

Being picked up by my dad post party along with my best mate for a sleepover at mine, and trying our best (and obvs failing) to act sober.

Treble vodkas and being served them underage at our local.

Indie nights at our local club. Great for art boy spotting.

Phone numbers written down using eyeliner or a borrowed pen from the barman. Finding the scrap of sweaty paper in your shoe the next day and frantically trying to decipher 'is that a 1 or a 7??'

I could go on...I loved growing up in the 90s (or more accurately, coming of age in the 90s). I'm 40 now and reckon it was the best time to be a teenager.

dancingonmycervix · 16/06/2020 22:14

Black opaque tights with shorts. Arrrghh

Whatisthisfuckery · 16/06/2020 22:15

Cooking Super Noodles in the microwave at 3am, smoking ropey hash and stoned missions to the 24 hour garage about 3 miles away to buy more fags that always got aborted after about half a mile.

Purplequalitystreet · 16/06/2020 22:15

Must have accessories were a tamagotchi and a yo yo with a fancy mechanism so you could do tricks.

ColourMeExhausted · 16/06/2020 22:15

The t shirts!! As well as crop tees I had a fine line in band t shirts...my fave was a Rage Against the Machine 'nuns with guns' one that I used to wear to shock my Catholic granny. Feel bad about that now.

FrankiesKnuckle · 16/06/2020 22:17

Palladium's and wallabees!

Echobelly · 16/06/2020 22:18

Some dodgy types would turn up and you'd have to get the biggest bloke to chuck them out

Someone would make a bong with a bucket and big coke/lemonade bottle

The Narcotics Suite from 'Music from the Jilted generation' would go on at the end of the evening

Someone would get so battered you got a bit worried about them

NB - the little dress and DM combo was ace and I will die on that hill!!! Grin

Whatisthisfuckery · 16/06/2020 22:19

The cool girls in their Kappa jackets, aka the kappa slappers.

tectonicplates · 16/06/2020 22:21

Hahaha how true Grin
Susanna85 · 16/06/2020 22:25

Upgrading from portable tape player (was it called a walkman?) to a cd version. With headphones that clipped on to the back of your ear.

Also, wearing a Linken Park (sp?) black oversized hoodie, maybe with some kind of chain preferably a bike chain hanging from corduroy flairs. They got very soggy. Don't think I'd ever even listened to a linken park track.

CodenameVillanelle · 16/06/2020 22:28

Ahhhhh I'm feeling nostalgic and wistful reading this! What a great decade to be a teenager in
