At house parties there was always that one person in the long black coat who refused to take it off.

I had a pair of purple docs and a black pair with rainbow stitching! Worn with tiny skirts and opaque black tights.

Drink of choice at my local indie club was a pint of half lager and half cider, topped with blackcurrant. What was it called?! Something kangaroo? And Blastaway- Diamond White mixed with Castaway!

Happy days!

TheTroutofNoCraic · 16/06/2020 22:30

Walking a mile to the phonebox to call friends because you weren't allowed to use the house phone.
The will-they-won't-they-turn-up excitement/nerves of dates arranged the night before on the phone

ballsdeep · 16/06/2020 22:31

The magic eye t shirts!
The sweater shop jumpers and bags
Naff naff coats
Morgan de toi
Woodpecker cider - 2 litres between four of us 🤣

SingleHandSue · 16/06/2020 22:34

Hanging around the ‘old man’ pubs to find a bloke willing to act as your boyfriend to get you in to the indie night club on a Tuesday night. At 14! 🙈

TheWoodsareDarkandDeep · 16/06/2020 22:35

Black cherries lipstick. A charity shop over coat an old man probably died in. Coming home from the pub smelling like an ashtray.

Whataloadofshite · 16/06/2020 22:35

Global hypercolour t-shirts.

AlexandPea · 16/06/2020 22:35

Oasis v Blur (Oasis obviously!)
Kicker shoes.
Plaid A line skirts.

Carouselfish · 16/06/2020 22:38

Combat trousers and a bikini top for clubbing... Blush
Meeting a friend outside a landmark at exact time. Fifteen minutes grace period or I'd go to the phone box!
Saved by the Bell. Fresh Prince.

boatyardblues · 16/06/2020 22:40

@tectonicplates

When we were under 18, there was always that one friend who looked older and usually got served, so we'd send him to the off licence on our behalf.
We had a school friend in 6th form who worked a Saturday job in Sainsburys. We used to go to his checkout with our party booze and he’d put it through without IDing us and sometimes push a few beers through without scanning them. Grin You’d never get away with it now.
Witchofzog · 16/06/2020 22:41

Ananya and White Musk perfume from the Body Shop were go to perfumes along with Exclamation. We used to spray our hair with Sun In and ended up with orange streaks. Most people had slightly frizzy hair. We looked our age - no contouring, false lashes and expensive eye shadow palettes for us. Nuno from Extreme was gorgeous. A good day out would involve going to the nearest big town with your best mate to look at Mood Rings and buy incense sticks n posters from Athena. We had to turn up to meet people on time as there were no mobile phones. And if we wanted to talk to people we had to call their landlines after 6pm and could only speak to them if their mums said yes and they weren't in their piano lesson or eating their tea

I miss the 90's so much. Things were so much simpler.

augustyellow · 16/06/2020 22:41

Burning my face with clean and clear (it didn’t help my spots)
Body shop bath pearls
Thinking I looked cool wearing a plastic dummy necklace 🤣
Loved the t shirt and slip dress look
Got a Filofax and felt like an adult ages about 14!
Salon selectives shampoo and sun in (my hair was so brassy)

Mrhodgeymaheg · 16/06/2020 22:42

Heather shimmer!

I used to really look up to those indie front women who had a constant unimpressed face on and looked like they were wearing their boyfriend's clothes. As a 13/14 year old I thought they looked really cool.

Eurotrash!! I had a wee crush on the presenter. Blush

Cauterize · 16/06/2020 22:42

Hoho - I think you're thinking of a snakebite and black?!

Clearthinking · 16/06/2020 22:42

When diamond cable came out, ringing to try and get a song on "The Box" music channel, usually something like boyzone or peter andre mysterious girl, they had 3 digits for the song you wanted to vote for. Just had to wait 4 days for them to play it

lockdownbreakdown · 16/06/2020 22:43

@HohoholyCow that would be a snake bite and black! Three of them followed by a good puke in the toilets and a snog with a skinny fucker with long hair in a seventies shirt. Classic coming of age in the early nineties, night on the town!

boatyardblues · 16/06/2020 22:44

@ColourMeExhausted

The t shirts!! As well as crop tees I had a fine line in band t shirts...my fave was a Rage Against the Machine 'nuns with guns' one that I used to wear to shock my Catholic granny. Feel bad about that now.
This made me laugh. Was your nan very shocked?
BabloHoney · 16/06/2020 22:45

6 gold hoop earrings in one ear.. I thought I looked so cool 🤦🏻‍♀️

Patch23042 · 16/06/2020 22:46

“Friends” on tv on a Friday night. Nokia phones.
Geri Halliwells Union Jack dress. Elizabeth Hurley’s safety pins.
Guacamole. Sundried tomatoes.
Friends Reunited.

TheFormerPorpentinaScamander · 16/06/2020 22:47

I was desperate for a white lace (?) dress from our cheap fashion store. It came with a white crop top and hot pants to wear under it. Mum refused to buy me one :(

That may have been very early 00s though thinking about it.

Whataloadofshite · 16/06/2020 22:48

RIMMEL BLACK CHERRY LIPSTICK Grin

BlueBooby · 16/06/2020 22:50

I turned 12 in 1999. I feel sad I missed out on being a teen in the 90s.

AnxiousAlpaca · 16/06/2020 22:51

Poppers! As in the tracky bottoms not the drugs...

winterisstillcoming · 16/06/2020 22:51

Morello cherry lip balm from the body shop.

Big foot ice cream

Combat trousers with a vest top

Pollard's for plimsolls

HoHoHolyCow · 16/06/2020 22:52

Yes! Snakebite and black!

What on earth was the kangaroo drink then? I remember it had a pink frothy/foamy top. Pink Kangaroo?!

So many gorgeous skinny boys in band T shirts and 3/4 shorts.

Did anyone else go to Reading festival in 1996??

drinkin · 16/06/2020 22:53

Heather shimmer lipstick. Sweety necklace, Marks and Spencer's shimmery tights with platform sandals. Body with poppers at the crotch, spaghetti strap dress. God we were gorgeous.

More magazine "Position of the Fortnight", sending your photos to triple print and hoping at least one was decent, walking home when the birds were chirping, after a night drinking aftershock, goldschlager or hooch.
No phones. No television. Rarely watched the news ( unlike now), blissful innocent times
