At house parties there was always that one person in the long black coat who refused to take it off.

Did anyone else go to Reading festival in 1996??

^

My brother did. He was 16 and got his tent from Aldi Grin I seem to remember he went on the bus? It must have been one hell of a fucking journey from Lancashire. Him and his mates definitely didn't drive. God knows what actually happened. My parents were like, alright, crack on GrinShock

managedmis · 17/06/2020 02:17

Snakebiteandblack
You called?

Timely, snakebite, timely Grin

blueglassandfreesias · 17/06/2020 03:27

Wow this thread is the best! Thanks OP.
It’s so lovely to remember all the things mentioned!
I wonder if the fact we didn’t watch as much news (if any) meant that we were happier teens.
Love all of the fashion memories and am amazed that every changing riom across the land smelt of O2 Impulse!

PhilCornwall1 · 17/06/2020 04:07

The t shirts!! As well as crop tees I had a fine line in band t shirts...my fave was a Rage Against the Machine 'nuns with guns' one that I used to wear to shock my Catholic granny. Feel bad about that now.

My 18 year old is a teen who should have grown up in the 90s. He has a fine collection of 90s band t-shirts, loves 80s and 90s music and the best of all, has a fine collection of records.

I went off to university in 1990 and had the best time ever, was glad to be away from home, could do what the hell I wanted and always did. It just seemed so easy back then, even when I became semi-sensible and bought my first house in 98 and got married in 99, even all of that just seemed so simple.

maadlady · 17/06/2020 05:18

The madchester rave scene was the 1990's for me.. some dodgy hair and dungarees but had the best nights out, everyone off their heads and we might be a bit potty now but their was no hatred and violence that i can recall.. everybody loved everybody and we danced and partied all night.the joys of my mis-spent yoof

Alittleshortforaspacepooper · 17/06/2020 05:35

The main difference I remember is people smoking everywhere all the time. It was a great excuse to stink of fags! It must be much harder these days for kids to hide their smoking from their parents lol

Sithee · 17/06/2020 05:55

@HoHoHolyCow Pink Kangaroo was a pint snakebite and black with vodka and advocaat in it. They were typically ordered for you on your birthday. Made loads of em in the pub where I worked. Blastaways too, and rocket fuel (barley wine and cider). I was a Newky Brown drinker myself.,,,

byvirtue · 17/06/2020 06:29

Sacks? Not sure why we called them these but they were really baggy trousers

Dial up internet and there not being much to look at
Yahoo search engine & Ask Jeeves
First home computer and using encarta as the answer to loads of homework.

BluntAndToThePoint80 · 17/06/2020 06:49

Bright satin shirts with your wonderbra hanging out (like the spice girls).
Colourful shift dresses with knee high boots like Shirley (?) from Garbage.
Cherry red DMs, lumberjack shirts and tiny vest underneath.
Tartan trousers.
Again with the dresses woth t agitate underneath (or those slip nighties from M&S in place of the dress).

Oh, the fashion...

BluntAndToThePoint80 · 17/06/2020 06:49
  • with the t shirt underneath
StealthPolarBear · 17/06/2020 07:02

"What was that cheap Superdrug make up? Something 2000?? Collection 2000"
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh
I always remembered it as Rimmel 2000 and have been puzzled since as why the range became so much more expensive!
Collection 2000 was stuck on the front of magazine etc, right?

Pink kangaroos used to form solid pink goo in your mouth Envy getting so drunk on them and diesel!
Our local used to have a wheel of fortune type thing behind the bar where you could win quad vodkas for 20p . Remember going in a mini bus to Newcastle on nights out with the local bouncers and not being ID'd anywhere Smile (and if we were my friend flashing her boobs to get us in Shock)

Pippioddstocking · 17/06/2020 07:29

Wonderbras
Britpop was so good
Kappa slappers with scraped back hair
Umbro tops
Heather shimmer
Dewberry mist
Impulse
20/20
Combat trousers and vest tops
Tiny mini dresses
Going to clubs underage
Taxis home for £2.50, or running as fast as you could to save money, but still be home by 12am
We used to hire the village hall and have parties there. Loads of teenagers drinking a lot, arguing, making lists of who to snog and ticking them off, police pouring our drink away and then home by midnight.
Meeting up to wonder about town by day or night, turning your watch back by half an hour if you were late home.

Heatherjayne1972 · 17/06/2020 07:52

Waistcoats were huge in the early 90’s- for everyone
And men with long bob type hairstyles

namesnamesnamesnames · 17/06/2020 08:16

I was 9-18 in the 90's.

I remember cheap booze, sneaking into nightclubs, friends on channel 4, channel 5 being new and exciting, love beads, singing to ace of base on the school field, kappa, Saturday morning tv, dummy necklaces, rave flyers being handed around school, some friends with pagers, satin bright shirts, tartan trousers and so much more!

Pandapotato · 17/06/2020 08:20

Ahhh! Good times!
Those huge flared jeans that soaked up the rain - worm with tiny vests or a little miss naughty t-shirt.
Buffalo’s and spice girls style platform trainers.
Rave buns.
Little butterfly clips and a slick of body glitter for big nights.
Congregating in the pub on a Sunday wearing Adidas hoodies, bucket hats and drinking vodka with orange juice because it was healthy and helped you get over the excesses of Saturday night.
Wonderbras.
The sock shop.
Standing on cd cases.

ifeellikeanidiot · 17/06/2020 08:21

People with white socks were townies

Beatingthisthing · 17/06/2020 08:31

Watching the song titles on 'The Box' for hours, hoping someone would put your fave song on.

Dewberry, fuzzy peach and So...? perfume.

Buying 10 superking fags for 99p and that being the only cost of the night as would go to clubs before they started charging at 10pm and then just have blokes buy you drinks all night.

Going out in hotpants and a bright pink bra. Cheering when the Fugees came on in the club. Good times..

Sherloidbaisherloid · 17/06/2020 08:39

@augustyellow yes the clean and clear!! I used that once and had to go to the doctor as my face was a peely burned mess. Ended up getting steroid cream prescribed to clear it up!
