At house parties there was always that one person in the long black coat who refused to take it off.

Loved the box! They always played the same songs like Amish Paradise and Gangtas Paradise!

Kookai as well, is that brand still around?

Also round my way I remember all the girls wearing Ben Sherman shirts, I tried it once looked like a complete knob!

Moonshinemisses · 16/06/2020 23:52

It wasnt a party unless you only found out the location of the venue @11pm for a midnight start &,then it was a race to get there. Usually in a barn, field or warehouse in the middle of nowhere. Happy days

Skinny white tee under a slip dress. Worn with Docs. Fucks sake.
I still wear this! 😁

Deciding to save the money it would have cost for ear or nose piercing by doing it yourself.

Spending the saved money on 20/20.

Nowadays I still have the scars and I feel sick thinking about 20/20.

Molocosh · 17/06/2020 00:10

Lager, cider and blackcurrant was called Diesel. I was a barmaid in my late teens and I remember all the purple vomit.

When I think of the 90s I remember weird hairstyles where the hair was slicked back with two bits loose beside the ears. Sometimes a fringe which had been sprayed stiff and rolled round a brush to make it stick out. Multiple gold necklaces and hoop earrings. Nike Air Max trainers were new and trendy, everyone had Adidas tracksuit bottoms and Head bags. In the late 90s I went clubbing in a tiny mini dress, block heels and a tiny handbag that barely fitted cash and lipstick. Good job we had no phones because there wouldn’t have been room!

SonjaMorgan · 17/06/2020 00:10

Buying 3 bottles of wine for a fiver in Victoria wine and then drinking them all round a bonfire.

Going to warehouse parties. We would pay £1 per pill, maybe chip a pound in for petrol and meet the most random people ever.

Charity shops were amazing. They all seemed to be grotty, dark and unpopular but I found some nice designer and vintage piece back before they became trendy.

Brit pop was great!
Getting good exam results, only for the tabloids to moan that the exams must be getting easier
Hipsters (the trousers, not the blokes with top-knots)
Wearing everything too tight - hipsters, skirts and especially T-shirts
Teen magazines that discussed sex, fashion and the paranormal
Chokers
Pendants on short, thin black cords
Taking your PE kit to school in a River Island carrier bag (had to be River Island)
Wearing your school rucksack on one shoulder

NotNowPlzz · 17/06/2020 00:21

Body glitter gel
Blie mascara
Those trousers which were like cargo pants with loads of strips coming off them
Tammy Girl

NoProblem123 · 17/06/2020 00:21

Tribe and exclamation perfume.
Diamond White and Hooch alcohol.

LonnyVonnyWilsonFrickett · 17/06/2020 00:23

Saving like crazy for a pair of Mahirishis. Finally having enough, heading to Harvey Nicks and then the salesbitch pulled me up for pronouncing it wrong.

Thursday nights on E4 - Friends and ER with actual friends and a bottle of wine - or catch up Sundays.

Slip dresses of various lengths and tight Ts.

Take away pizza - is that right? Was that the first time we had takeaway pizza?

AmericanAdventure · 17/06/2020 00:26

Embroidering my canvas army surplus bag with band names.

The person in the black coat Grin made me laugh because it was so true!

It made me laugh because it was me.

Same. Grin

I was a 90's Goth which means I wasn't very goth at all because my mum wouldn't let me. I wore a lot of black and red, tastefully matched with green eyeshadow and bright pink lipstick.

I wanted to be Trinity from The Matrix so badly (although that was 1999) so I felt very smug that I'd already acquired the long black leather coat. Then I got annoyed because everyone got into black leather because they also wanted to be in The Matrix.

NotNowPlzz · 17/06/2020 00:27

Von Dutch t shirts

JollyYellaHumberElla · 17/06/2020 00:31

Blue Bols and lemonade, looked like you were drinking a science experiment. Red Hot Chilli Peppers (Under The Bridge), Primal Scream, Beloved (Come Together).
Tiny vest top and leather mini skirts, with DMs or massive biker boots. Never wearing a coat even when snowing because it would be a wasted 30p to hang it up. No bag either, so dancing all night with spare change and house key in my boots and a fiver down my bra.
Tank girl posters. Black velvet jackets.over dresses.
Boy racers in Ford Cosworths with massive speakers in the back that filled the boot space. Watching MTV videos in the takeaway at 4am.

IwishIhadaMargarita · 17/06/2020 00:48

I had the black version of the lace dress as a teenager. Later as a 18–19 year old I wore the hot pants with a corset top and a long lace cardigan and knee high biker boots. I had a fucking great figure and wish I knew it.

At a party there was always a girl who was totally off her face early doors having a brilliant time. Later you’d see her sitting on the stairs crying her eyes out being consoled by a pal. Usually it was over a bloke ‘ sob sob...but I love him sob sob’

Trying to not wake the whole house at 5am crawling home but my dad would always call out ‘is that you home hen?’ and I’d always call back ‘no I’m a robber tell me where the money is!’

I am 41 and those were the best years of my life and some of the most painful (Young love) I absolutely loved being a teenager and had the best friends and a great social life.

YardleyX · 17/06/2020 00:54

P.E. Kit in a River Island carrier bag! Yes!! Grin

Snakebiteandblack · 17/06/2020 00:56

You called?

RubyMonster · 17/06/2020 00:58

Directions hair dye, black velvet dress, black and purple stripy tights and Docs. Drinking the local shops horrible cheap vodka before we went out with Diet Coke. So much eyeliner, maybe even a tiara (oh god). Getting off with some hairy beast in the metal/goth club who might buy you a rose from the old woman who came round the pubs selling them from a basket. Or a few crab sticks from the fish man who was always around too. Class. K cider in the smooth black bottle. Patchouli oil and incense. I’m glad I was a teenager before contouring and camera phones.

7Days · 17/06/2020 00:59

I hope it's the same for all generations. It's a stage of life rather than a comment on the state of the world.

Hope our kids get the same nostalgia, I'd think they will. No matter what big stuff happens, teens have that sense of exuberant youth - look through all of history.

Going on a date to SpudULike! Grin

SingleHandSue · 17/06/2020 01:38

In the late 90s on a Friday night we’d drive all the way to Wolvo and go to one of the Rock clubs there.

I’d be wearing either a PVC hot pants and corset combo over fish nets; a see through blue army print top with a wonderbra (natch) underneath, a mini skirt and ripped tights with New Rocks; or sometimes my baggy cords, a super tight kids t-shirt with no bra, choker, tiara and bindi, all worn with my punked out Shaun the Sheep bag.

We’d have the best nights in those clubs.
