I do think it's funny that when schools hadn't returned Keith was arguing that they should, now when the government are encouraging parents to send them back he won't support them. To sound like Starmer why? Right now Nicola Sturgeon is facing FMQs in the Scottish Parliament. Labour, Conservative and LD MSPs are all demanding why? as well. I think it's disgusting that children aren't back at school or the measures for them to go back in place.
Poor kids.

CockCarousel · 17/06/2020 12:58

Maybe he doesn't like being on a restricted-calorie diet after announcing his "War On Fat". Diets are shit.

jasjas1973 · 17/06/2020 13:01

Getoff My DD uni, like all educational establishments closed during lockdown, they wont reopen for face to face tuition until September, when measures are place to do so and even then it will be a mixture inc on-line.

Schools cannot return to normal teaching, the PM banging on that all these children should return to school is utter nonsense, the Govt's own guidelines preclude this i.e classes of 15, 2m SD etc etc.

Johnson ought to know this, i would say does but thats probably unlikely.

'Schools cannot return to normal teaching, the PM banging on that all these children should return to school is utter nonsense, the Govt's own guidelines preclude this i.e classes of 15, 2m SD etc etc.'

No they can't return to normal teaching but with reduced hours and classroom sizes the ones that can should. Some schools in labour run councils are refusing to open.

Cailleach1 · 17/06/2020 13:06

No, I was correct. On Sky Live. Verbatim.

Starmer "A report from the Gov't 's social mobility commission concluded that there are now 600,000 more children living in relative poverty than 2012."

"The report went on to say that child poverty rates are projected to increase to 5.2 million by 2022."

Absolute and relative have declined under this gov't. says Johnson.

Starmer the Social Mobility Commission says that the rise in increased child poverty is not driven by forces beyond our control Maybe slight paraphrase.

Isn't it wonderful that we have access to what was said and it can't be twisted or put in doubt.

jasjas1973 · 17/06/2020 13:12

I'm in tory run area and few schools are open & certainly not all year groups, shortages of staff and PPE seem to be an issue.

Lazy to blame on Labour councils or schools, if i was from the BAME community or overweight, had asthma/diabetes, i would not want to return to teaching, there still 1000s of new CV cases each and every day.

GetOffYourHighHorse · 17/06/2020 13:15

'isn't it wonderful that we have access to what was said and it can't be twisted or put in doubt.'

Yes it is 'wonderful'. Fwiw I did say I may be wrong, I wasn't trying to twist anything.

Cailleach1 · 17/06/2020 13:17

Love the bit where Johnson said he is grateful to Starmer on what he said about the Dexamethasone breakthrough. Starmer congratulated all the scientists involved. Is Johnson seriously taking that to mean he also takes credit for the Scientific breakthrough?
That is too funny.

K, HighHorse. I suppose I reflect on the fact that I would have checked. And I did.
Don't mean to ascribe more sinister motives to your understanding it incorrectly. Sign of the times.

Mumratheevergiving · 17/06/2020 13:23

One of my children is back in school as in the cherry-picked years. I would dearly love my other child to be back in school or even to be offered a keeping in touch day before the end of term. The Govt said schools could not offer a rota and kept changing their guidance. As a result what is being offered is a shambles and a postcode lottery. Surely it's up to the Government to address this & not to blame parents, teachers, unions and now the opposition? They need to set out the plan for catch up and Sept now so that this haphazard educational provision does not continue into the next academic year.

Sounded he was just grateful for Starmers recognition to the medics involved? They all seem to thank each other for comments in the commons it's a bit weird imo. I doubt he was trying to take credit and yet you've just said about those who twist words!

Cailleach1 · 17/06/2020 13:36

sounded to you as if X. Sounded to me as if Y. 6 of 1 etc.

Cailleach1 · 17/06/2020 14:02

Listening again to the Sky Live PMQ's. Camera on Johnson (who is mumbling away) as Starmer is speaking. Starmer saying "the PM is chuntering, he might want to listen." and "I'm sure the PM has read the report" (on the large rise in relative child poverty figures). The projected figure of 5.2 million child poverty figure was made before the impact of Covid-19 is taken into account and this is expected to push even more children into poverty. That is sobering.

FliesandPies · 17/06/2020 14:12

Johnson: "Well i'm grateful to the Right Honourable Gentleman for what he said about Dexamethasone and I'm glad that he's finally paying tribute the efforts of this country in tackling Coronavirus."

So he's 'grateful' for the comment - i.e. is taking credit.

Susiesoap7 · 17/06/2020 14:52

Well he wanted to be pm!
Ha hasn't walked a mile in a working mans shoes!

randomer · 17/06/2020 14:54

He wanted to be Pm and his cronies wanted their top jobs. They got them and they are shit.

Alsohuman · 17/06/2020 15:14

I'm not a 'fangirl'. Don't be so misogynistic

I didn’t say you were. But if the cap fits ...

ListeningQuietly · 17/06/2020 15:15

Johnson will be dumped by the Tories as soon as his year is up

FliesandPies · 17/06/2020 15:41

But how?

annabel85 · 17/06/2020 15:41

@ListeningQuietly

Johnson will be dumped by the Tories as soon as his year is up
There will definitely be a sacrificial lamb. Hancock would make sense. Cummings has stayed because Boris needs him.

The Tories are ruthless though. If Starmer storms ahead in the polls then someone like Sunak or Gove will be waiting in the wings.

Once Brexit is finally done the Lib Dems will pick up Tory voters as well if they can get momentum. Tories poll numbers have been artificially inflated by people wanting Brexit done.

Alsohuman · 17/06/2020 15:46

The Tories are totally ruthless, look how they disposed of Thatcher. I imagine Mrs Sunak is mentally measuring No 10 up right now.

FliesandPies · 17/06/2020 15:49

There will definitely be a sacrificial lamb. Hancock would make sense

Certainly makes sense to Cummings and Johnson - his head's been on the block for months and he knows it.

Cummings has stayed because Boris needs him
He doesn't give a flying fuck about fatty Johnson, he's staying because he gets off on the power and wants to push through a No Deal Brexit to really screw this country.

ListeningQuietly · 17/06/2020 15:50

Once Brexit is finally done
Brexit was done on the 31st January.

I imagine Mrs Sunak is mentally measuring No 10 up right now.
Doubt it. She's far too rich to want to live somewhere so small

But how?
Tory Party leadership Challenge allowed from 23rd July

jasjas1973 · 17/06/2020 15:50

How long it take to get rid of May? and look what we got?

No, i'd rather Johnson stayed, Gove or Raab would be far worse, Johnson isn't really right wing but both of them are.
