Do you wonder WTAF?!

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 00:01

WTAF is going on at the minute, CoronaVirus, Donald Trump, the fact we still need to be told via protest that Black Lives Matter, seriously WTAF is happening in the world at the moment?!

I don't think I'll articulate this well, but I sometimes just think that this is a very weird time to be be alive. There's so much of it that is almost difficult to comprehend.

I thought this today sat at beach ( empty and local ) looking out to sea and everything looked and felt normal for a few seconds as though none of this crap was going on then reality hits
2020 has been a write off so far

Inappropriatefemale · 07/06/2020 23:33

I bloody really thought at the start of the year that 2020 was going to be ‘my year’, how wrong I was!

The only consolation is that it’s went shit but through no fault of my own.

2007 - 2013 were the worst years of my life due to me but 2020 is the worst year so far and outwith my control.

Imnotcalledlola · 07/06/2020 23:43

I still have to shake myself multiple times a day to remind myself that this is actually happening. It’s still so weird.
Covid was on my radar from January but I still see February half term as the last slice of normality. Thank goodness we had a lovely one-I just yearn to relive it again.
After that everything went wrong. In my mind it looks like one of those scenes of a power cut in a film where the lights go out in patches until everywhere is dark. That was March for me.

TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 07/06/2020 23:50

I dunno - that was around the time of Caroline Flack's death, so I would have to disagree. This year has been shit from the off and it's hard to believe we're only halfway through.

TokyoSushi · 07/06/2020 23:58

Yep, 2020 has been dreadful from the outset. The problems with Iran at the very start of the year, Brexit obvs, then Kobe Bryant and Caroline Flack and all the while COVID-19 creeping up in the background and creating a general feeling of unease. Bloody Donald Trump who just gets worse and worse and now George Floyd and all that represents.

I was so looking forward to 2020, I turned 40, it's our 10 year wedding anniversary, I have 2x fab DC, lots of friends, a good job and an all round lovely life. I'm usually such an optimist but I can honestly say I've hated 2020 so far, I feel really miserable tonight, I think because homeschool starts tomorrow, and there's just no end in sight.

Things can only get better, right?

StartupRepair · 08/06/2020 00:11

There's no catching up. Here in Australia people whose communities were wiped out by fire are still waiting for their houses to be rebuilt.
My weirdest moment was my 89 year old mother, who I haven't been able to see since February, telling me triumphantly that she was able to watch the stream of her friend's funeral service. And me saying, 'Mum, that's great!'.

derxa · 08/06/2020 07:39

I think we're just so used to seeing shit like this on the news happening to other people or learning about it as something that used to happen. This is one of the first times it's affected the majority of us in the UK and it's scary. Perfectly put.

Earlybirdey · 08/06/2020 07:39

It'll be aliens next.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 08/06/2020 07:58

Yes, all those, and I'll add the batshit attacks on JK Rowling because she said women menstruate and same-sex attraction exists! Some parts of the world have gone utterly mad.

LidlDonkey · 08/06/2020 08:19

It's all down to people. People who are selfish, insular and don't give a toss about anyone else.

This has been exacerbated by having right-wing politicians in power, giving out the signal that it's fine to behave like this.

There's no apocalypse, just a world that's beginning to collapse in on itself due to greed and selfishness.

Gingernaut · 08/06/2020 09:58

@Alltheprettyseahorses

Add to that young LGBT+ activists who are arguing with older gays and lesbians about who started the Stonewall riots.

Transing the dead is only part of it.

I follow a older, gay, man on Twitter who was actually there and the abuse he gets saying that a black gay drag queen called Marsha P. Johnson was a transwoman and that Storme DeLarverie was also a trans man, that his eyewitness testimony doesn't mean a thing and being there is not everything is extraordinary.

Watching modern TRAs trying to gaslight the gays and lesbians who started it all, who lived through the civil rights fight of the 60s and 70s, the AIDS epidemic and the right wing backlash of the 80s is jaw dropping. And depressing.

Gingernaut · 08/06/2020 10:01

Sorry, he's saying they weren't trans.

He's getting reported and abused on a daily basis, arguing that Stormé DeLarverie and Marsha P. Johnson weren't trans.

cyclingmad · 08/06/2020 12:14

I know I'll get called a conspiracy theorist but whatever it's just a way for people who so blind to really seeing what is happening and refuse to believe the world and ppl can be like this

What you seeing is a fight of our loves, a small selection of people wanting total power and control over people and people fighting back.

Even this whole coronavirus has been a ruse to take control, get us all chipped through a vaccine. Not saying noone died or their isnt a virus but that it's been purposely blown up to be this big scary thing. Social media has been completely taken over by bots and fake people pushing certain agenda even MSM. They dont want you to know the truth. There was a really good article in the times paper questioning the lockdown which was surprising to see.

You only have to look at china to see what's coming with their new system of social points. If you dont have enough points you cant travel etc.

For anyone who says it wont well isnt that what we are going through now but its spun a different way

cyclingmad · 08/06/2020 12:17

There is also alot of censorship happening whether it's on YouTube or Facebook, posts and videos being taken down that go against their agenda of what they want you to see.

heartsonacake · 08/06/2020 12:34

Harambe died and everything went to shit from there 🤷‍♀️

Sicktaethebackyeeth · 08/06/2020 12:36

@FliesandPies

Don't forget the Plague of Twats in government.
Think you'll find that we thankfully didn't vote them in.
FliesandPies · 08/06/2020 14:20

But they're still in government, even if I didn't vote for them. Never mind, as the thread says - change is happening thick and fast! This time last year Johnson was still a back-bencher, in another 11 months he might be completely gone.

Nikhedonia · 08/06/2020 14:31

He might be like his hero and be voted out after this 'war'

OP posts:
FliesandPies · 08/06/2020 14:42

At least people felt Churchill was essential to winning the war, even if they didn't want him to lead in peacetime.

With Bozo it's clear from this poll in the Mail that people are rapidly losing any faith in him to deal with CV and quite likely the scales will have fallen from their eyes wrt Brexit as well.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 08/06/2020 15:37

I often muse (even before Corona) how did we get to this state re:right wing politicians, fascists & our people wanting to erode our liberties & even our thoughts & opinions.
Go back to 2007 & most things all though not perfect seemed to be ticking along sometimes bumbling along quite nicely. And any bad stuff that happened didn't seem as bad/terrifying as the bad stuff now.
Is it because the world was moving towards a more centrist way of working & trying to work more cooperatively? It seemed that extremity from both the right & left were fading away.
The future appeared bright & hopeful.

Then we had the financial crash of 2008 which wasn't good but still things weren't like they are now.

Is it because certain people or factions with the power & money don't like the world in a harmonious & cooperative state because it actually makes them less money & takes away their power?

It feels like we're experiencing the modern version of the first quarter of the 20th century.
Flight starting, mass production of cars, the dawn of cinema, more people getting the vote, old age pensions being introduced in the earlier part of the 20th century, the future looked bright, modern & full of hope & their was an air of optimism that life would improve for many.

Then the tide starts to turn, people in power & money not liking this, discontent being stirred up in Europe. The First World War & peacemakers being thwarted at every turn.
A hell of a lot of politicians, tycoons & industrialists made a fortune out of this war whilst millions of ordinary people around the world suffered & paid the price.

And it always seems to be men!
Not saying that women are perfect but I'm sure the world would be in a better state if we were in charge or at least more women & decent men were in positions of power.

Although I wasn't around at the beginning of the 1900s I certainly feel like I'm reliving it albeit the future version.

PhilCornwall1 · 08/06/2020 17:07
  • And it always seems to be men! Not saying that women are perfect but I'm sure the world would be in a better state if we were in charge or at least more women & decent men were in positions of power.*

You've hit the nail on the head with "decent men". I'd hazard a guess that nobody could name any honest/respectable ones who have been in charge.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 11/06/2020 11:59

The desire for power is the disqualification for it.

As for Brexit, the trigger was the proposed EU regulations on tax evasion. Up until then, it had been a carrot dangled in front of the headbangers in the Tory party. There was no real appetite for it in the country, and that suited everyone on both sides of the house. Then the 50 richest people in Britain decided that they'd smash the economy for short sterling positions. And now we're here, fucked into a cocked hat.

SurreyHillsGirl · 11/06/2020 13:58

Although the link below makes the present seem not that bad...

Titsywoo · 11/06/2020 14:30

@JigglypuffsCaptor

It definitely feels like the horsemen are here

Pestilence/Plague
War
Famine
Death

3/4 are here if the economy tanks and food production suffers, you'll have your 4th. 😳

These 4 things are ALWAYS happening at some place in the world.

Possibly everyone getting a little overdramatic here. The end is not nigh. The virus is certainly a bugger but with our levels of population and international travel it was inevitable at some point. Boris and co have done a shitty job but so have lots of people - no point comparing us to NZ and Australia as they are completely different to us. BLM is becoming a bit of a bangwagon for people to jump on at the moment IMO. George Floyds death was not good but I still do not believe the police in this country are instutionally racist. There may be a small percentage of bad police (just like there are probably a percentage of bad anyone really!). People are pissed off after a long lockdown and frustrated that they can't control anything. They can make a difference with the BLM thing. Are they going about it the right way? Not in my opinion. Will the extreme high-emotion about it die down soon enough? I bet it will. Not for everyone but for lots of people.

Titsywoo · 11/06/2020 14:31

BANDWAGON !! Not bangwagon Grin
