Do you wonder WTAF?!

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 00:01

WTAF is going on at the minute, CoronaVirus, Donald Trump, the fact we still need to be told via protest that Black Lives Matter, seriously WTAF is happening in the world at the moment?!

I don't think I'll articulate this well, but I sometimes just think that this is a very weird time to be be alive. There's so much of it that is almost difficult to comprehend.

It's like televisions. Think of all the years we spent humping round cathode ray TVs, at first in wooden boxes and then in plastic, while manufacturers rather futilely tried to disguise their round edges and convex screens. Then, all at once, flat screen TVs became a thing and CRTs were obsolete, and it seems strange that we ever even had them. Multiply the speed of that by 1000 and you have Covid19.

Frownette · 07/06/2020 01:38

Nik that's the spirit!

ineedaholidaynow · 07/06/2020 01:39

Whoever thought that some people would be washing their shopping or quarantining their post! And would be so excited if you could buy a bag of flour.

It’s weird because our little family of 3 have got used to being together all the time. It will be really strange when DS goes back to actual rather than virtual school and DH back to his office.

I’ve got to that point when you watch something on tv and sometimes have to stop myself thinking why are you not social distancing. Or if you read a thread on here and they start talking about going to a party or something similar and start getting judgy and then realise it was started 4 months ago, so that was fine then!

Sparklingbrook · 07/06/2020 01:42

We had a chippy tea tonight and it was the highlight of the week. Sad

Yes, exactly! It's so weird how quickly we have shifted to this being 'normal'. And that Trump or Cummings can come out with absolute bullshit and we just accept it and there's people defending it

@Sparklingbrook I would love a chippy tea right now. Was it as good as it sounds?

Yes good point about what is going on? someone said that their christian friend would talk about this. I've got a faith, I'm not an expert but just thought I'd comment, There are references to some of these events we see happening now in the Bible. I've read some verses In the book of Revelation. The book of Matthew and other books in the New Testament give info about things that will happen in the world before Jesus returns, we're seeing quite a few of these things going on. Personally I've found the Bible helpful for helping me understand these times and many verses give me peace. One of my teenage sons started drawing on his wall during lockdown, he's drawn these really big mountains. He told me he'd written something up tonight so I went up to have a look, picked up dirty plates and a wet towel to get through the door! In large uneven letters he'd written this really comforting verse which I found helpful as I've felt a bit low today"Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed," says the Lord who has compassion on you. We're not alone...

Frownette · 07/06/2020 01:45

I got pretty nervous in the shop earlier as there were two women in their sixties I think who almost literally pressed me up against a shelf and asked if I wanted to pass few inches from my face. I squeaked yes.

It was like they'd never heard of social distancing!

Sparklingbrook · 07/06/2020 01:47

It was amazing @Nikhedonia. Ordered online then I sent DS2 to pick it up as I had been drinking.
He had jumbo sausage and I had Halloumi Wrap and salad. Tea of kings. Grin

ineedaholidaynow · 07/06/2020 01:48

We’ve not managed to have a chippy tea yet. Our local chippy has just reopened after closing as soon as lockdown started, but we can’t quite get our heads round the fact that we have to phone our order through the day before and set a time for collection!

DS will struggle going back to school as he has got used to having a cup of tea during his online lessons!

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 01:48

Sound absolutely delightful Sparkling. I haven't heard of Chippy's doing halloumi wraps before, but I need one immediately.

These are the wonderful first world problems we need in our lives right now. Grin

I feel like Mother Nature is enraged at the scourge of mankind and is chucking all her tricks at us, plagues and locusts and fires etc in a bid to reduce our numbers to a more manageable size.
In a big picture way I can see mankind is taking too much from the earth and needs to be reduced but obviously I realise for that to happen people parents/siblings/children/loved ones would need to die and that every life is a life.

I do worry about what will be next, maybe a super volcano or hurracaines?

I said to the kids that in 50 years time school children will be learning about this time in thier history lessons!

Back in Jan/Feb I saw ‘this’ coming, mainly thanks to the mumsnet preppers thread and so stocked up on food, medicine, school supplies etc. DH thought I was mad but he has now realised I was right! I didn’t imagine for a second that lockdown would go on this long though!! I though maybe a month at worst then all back to normal!

Sparklingbrook · 07/06/2020 01:50

I didn't realise until we started ordering online and seeing the menu @Nikhedonia that the chippy does all sorts of things. I am usually a chicken and mushroom pie type. Grin

Frownette · 07/06/2020 01:50

@ineedaholidaynow I guess he could take a flask

Inappropriatefemale · 07/06/2020 01:51

I have also had thoughts that Mother Nature is punishing us! It’s great for the sealife that aren’t as many CO2 omissions going into the sea and I think it’s a lesson to us, sadly once we are back to ‘normal’ then so many people will just live like they were before.

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 01:52

@Sparklingbrook I think it would only be right for me to support a local business and check this out tomorrow evening. For the benefit of local businesses, of course Wink

Just need the zombie apocalypse.

Frownette · 07/06/2020 01:53

@BrieAndChilli I guess we're not the predominant lifeform on the planet despite our delusions. It's not all bad though we'll come through this

Sparklingbrook · 07/06/2020 01:53

I think the toilet roll panic buying was because people thought they may have to isolate for 14 days. Grin

I didn't prep or panic buy at all and we didn't run out of anything, I knew I didn't like tinned tomatoes and long life milk though. Grin I do wonder how many people are still using their loo roll forts up even now.

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 01:54

@vodkaredbullgirl I would have scoffed at the unlikeliness of zombies before, but right now I'm just silently hoping that they aren't real.

Yes, you will be doing your bit so that's a good thing. Wink

Our local farm shop is doing takeaway afternoon teas and ploughmans lunches so I think it's only fair I support them this week too.

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 01:56

I was hoping that those panic buying toilet roll were just planning to build a giant fort in their houses. I'll be somewhat disappointed if that isn't true.

I was told I was going to be furloughed on the 21 st March.......not gonna lie I thought it sounded a bit kinky Grin
Fast forward to June and it's all a bit weird now. I wore a mask for the first time shopping today.

Zofloraing my door handles and light switches is now the norm but I've never ever done it before 2020.

I'm torn between scared and meh

People like you are the backbone of the UK economy, good on you!
