Do you wonder WTAF?!

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 00:01

WTAF is going on at the minute, CoronaVirus, Donald Trump, the fact we still need to be told via protest that Black Lives Matter, seriously WTAF is happening in the world at the moment?!

I don't think I'll articulate this well, but I sometimes just think that this is a very weird time to be be alive. There's so much of it that is almost difficult to comprehend.

You switch off the news. I kept the news off for years. It was like my dirty secret when the kids were in bed!

Pelleas · 07/06/2020 00:41

To be fair, nobody could have coped with it.

Yes, that's a very fair point. I can't imagine Corbyn doing any better.

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 00:41

In some ways this might be exactly what Boris was keen on, his keen interest in Churchill and the many comparisons to WW2. It just happens that Boris doesn't have the ability to deal with what's in front of him in the way that Churchill did.

Ah but he will take credit for anything that goes well!

CuppaZa · 07/06/2020 00:42

It’s very apocalyptic like. Almost like the beginning of the end. I wonder what next month will bring?

CuppaZa · 07/06/2020 00:42

Last year, if someone had told what would be happening in 2020, I’d say they were barking mad.

Mawbags · 07/06/2020 00:43

Everything feels post apocalyptic to the max

I can’t believe I watched “years and years” a few months ago ..... I feel like the world is turning into that already

Who would have thought that your children would be denied an education a year ago, or that we would be virtual housebound as we have been?

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 00:43

The biblical references are interesting. The plague of locusts, the floods.

The fires in Australia at the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020. It's just all so much in a short period of time.

DamnYankee · 07/06/2020 00:44

I know! I know!

Pelleas · 07/06/2020 00:45

I don't see how we can avoid a second wave, what with people flocking to the beaches during last month's heatwave, and now the mass BLM protests in big cities. I'm not judging people for protesting, but the virus won't care how justified the protests were.

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 00:46

I haven't watched the news in weeks. I'm still aware of what's happening (perhaps I should come off MN, it's the only 'social media' I am still on)

OP posts:
Auntieelsie · 07/06/2020 00:46

You’re right. The world’s gone stark raving mad.

Fred56 · 07/06/2020 00:46

In the area that we live over the last week some houses have had reduced water pressure some have had no water

USirName · 07/06/2020 00:46

Someone mentioned locusts...

We just happen to be at the end of the 17 year cycle and so North Carolina and Virginia are bracing for millions of cicadas emerging any time soon, what timing!

DamnYankee · 07/06/2020 00:47

And that's not articulated well, but I'm still trying to process this!
Every.Day. It's a new tragedy...fueled by another tragedy.

CountessFrog · 07/06/2020 00:47

Nik, you should probably come off MN fjr it’s tendency to present the news as even more dystopian!

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 00:48

The fact that Trump will most likely get elected for a 2nd term is just, well, I don't even have the words. It's utter madness. He literally talks absolute shit and yet great swathes of the population will still vote for him.

Yes, absolutely. I was writing an email at work and referred to someone's unexplained absence 'he may be self-isolating' - and I had a moment where I imagined how incomprehensible that would be if I'd written it a year ago.

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 00:50

GrinGrin That's true. Gosh, I would actually be willing to invest some time in a bullshit thread just for an escape from this (where's a Mexican house thief when you need them?!)

Maybe I’m an absolute weirdo...but if we didn’t have tv etc, we’d have no idea about the pandemic.
There have been pandemics and for plagues etc and we’ve kept going.
Normal life for most of us (not me, but that’s for specific reasons) allows us to to do things that most of our grandparents couldn’t dream about.
I know it’s bad that children cannot socialise and go to school and being anxious on a regular basis is tough. But there are so many worse things going on and maybe we should be careful about thinking this is the worst.
The big fat orange narcissist in the White House will burn out eventually.
The world can get better. If we let it.
That’s probably just beery nonsense though, who can tell?

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 00:51

YY, the weird everyday language "furlough" "social distancing" "R rate" etc it's just weird.

Just invent some neighbours who've invited 500 people round for a barbecue - sorted.

Redcrayons · 07/06/2020 00:52

I’ve had a memory pop up on Facebook of me and Some friends at a free concert in the park and it seems like a different world.

Ironic really that Boris was so desperate to be PM. Just thought he’d swoop in and get Brexit done
Indeed. I’m sure he thought he could swoop in, ‘get brexit done’ without doing anything and take the credit for it. And here he is in the biggest global crisis in a generation and having to do some actual work.

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 00:52

Not me, I'm 4 gins down! GinGinGinGin
