Do you wonder WTAF?!

WTAF is going on at the minute, CoronaVirus, Donald Trump, the fact we still need to be told via protest that Black Lives Matter, seriously WTAF is happening in the world at the moment?!

I don't think I'll articulate this well, but I sometimes just think that this is a very weird time to be be alive. There's so much of it that is almost difficult to comprehend.

@Nikhedonia

I was just thinking about that the other day...how all these new words and phrases just slip off the tongue when a few months ago we’d never even heard of self-isolating, furlough, social distancing, the “R” number, PPE etc.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 07/06/2020 01:15

It's a real pity we didn't have a Merkel equivalent.

I've being saying that for years.
Pity we can't clone her or Jacinda Adern.
Though there's always Tracey Ullman

Pelleas · 07/06/2020 01:16

PPE etc

O for the days when that was a subject people studied at Oxford.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 07/06/2020 01:16

@Nikhedonia bizarrely I'm calmer than I have been in a long time Grin I'm in the shielding group so we're home together.

LiesHumansTellThemselves · 07/06/2020 01:17

There are too many humans, we are using too many resources, putting too much pressure on the ecosystem which we need to sustain us and each other.

The pressure has reached boiling point, this is what happens.

I regret having children. If I had not I would just shrug and figure we are on our way out.

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 01:17

Glad to know others are also thinking WTAF is going on.

GinWine to everyone who is thinking it too.

At the start of the this year then I told myself ‘this would be the year when my life went the way I wanted it too’ and now it’s been the worst year ever!

I seriously think a war is going to startSad
I am just so done in.

SamsMumsCateracts · 07/06/2020 01:19

It was watching my children play with their Lego and realising that they were social distancing their mini figures that did it for me. I'd been bumbling along recently, just trying to go on as normal, but in that moment it suddenly hit my how utterly incomprehensible the whole situation is. It made me cry.

boatyardblues · 07/06/2020 01:20

I sometimes wonder if, in a Sliding Doors scenario, we've split off into this nightmare and somewhere, there is a parallel 2020 that's going on as normal.

Me too. Me too.

Pelleas · 07/06/2020 01:20

Anyone else on the wrong side of 'beer and wine, you'll be fine; wine and beer, feel the fear'?

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 01:21

@SamsMumsCateracts Sad it's really sad that for children this is becoming 'normal'.

I find myself watching TV programmes/films etc and finding it odd when the characters are close to each other, seems so odd now.

Oooh dangs x Be still my beating heart

@CountessFrog completely agree about Boris, he's wanted to be PM for so long, then it all got shot to shit

Inappropriatefemale · 07/06/2020 01:23

Is it the beginning of the end? I felt like that today watching the protests, it made me very anxious Sad

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 01:23

I was sent this meme in a group this week, at first I laughed and then I thought, "yes, seriously keep that fucking sealed!" It feels like the odds are stacked against us at the moment.

Do you wonder WTAF?!

I stay away from beer, but if there's a gun equivalent - I'm there!

Is it the beginning of the end?

Sadly, I suspect as Churchill said, the most we can hope for is that it's the end of the beginning.

No it'll be fine @Inappropriatefemale, it's just a bit strange at present

Sparklingbrook · 07/06/2020 01:28

I agree with the 'furlough' thing. I went from being unsure what it was or how to pronounce it to now being in week 7 of it. Shock

Imagine at Christmas someone had said that in March everyone will be stripping the shelves bare of loo roll and pasta, then all the shops and pubs/restaurants/everything will shut and people will be 2 metres apart wearing masks if they go out at all.

I vaguely remember a news piece from Feb/Mar saying there were some people on a cruise ship coming back to the UK and being quarantined in Liverpool for 2 weeks due to Coronavirus whatever that was and thinking how odd that would be to do.

Sparklingbrook · 07/06/2020 01:30

It made me anxious too. Even if the CV goes away what will we be left with?
Frownette · 07/06/2020 01:32

We'll recover, honestly. May take a little while but I'm not dead yet (although impoverished) and neither are you lot since you're posting.

Sparklingbrook · 07/06/2020 01:35

Good point @Frownette, I have had a wobbly week with it all this week and it just all seems a bit much sometimes. I should be in bed too, but CBA to go upstairs.

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 01:35

The fact people are protesting to let society know that Black Lives Matter is just unbelievable, it's 2020 and it's still something that society needs to be told. It's fucking depressing.

When people say that humans are the virus, I can understand that. If we were being observed in a nature programme and David Attenborough was narrating, I wonder what he would say.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 07/06/2020 01:35

Frownette onwards & upwards.

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 01:36

We'll recover, honestly.

Yes, let's hope so. And that what we are left with can be made into something better than before.
