Do you wonder WTAF?!

WTAF is going on at the minute, CoronaVirus, Donald Trump, the fact we still need to be told via protest that Black Lives Matter, seriously WTAF is happening in the world at the moment?!

I don't think I'll articulate this well, but I sometimes just think that this is a very weird time to be be alive. There's so much of it that is almost difficult to comprehend.

Yes - until last March, 'furlough' was an obscure word I'd come across once in a 19th century novel.

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 00:54

Just invent some neighbours who've invited 500 people round for a barbecue - sorted.

No, I want a complete escape from the CV-19 stuff. I'm thinking of the days of yore, a good Pom Bear thread.

I really dislike the word ‘shielding.’

It makes me think people are hiding behind their sofa with a bit of cardboard over their heads.

I knew it from Orange Is The New Black.

So long as it keeps us all from recognising and discussing the fact that Prince Andrew is a nonce, 2020 will have done its job well.

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 00:57

I would imagine (based on some of the hysteria on here) that your vision could be quite accurate!

Yes the world has gone mad, completely bonkers but then it's done it every so often throughout history.
Call me a Pollyanna living in my ivory tower, but this will pass & we'll all say WTF & how on Earth did we cope with all that.
Hopefully we may learn.

Or we're just characters in The Sims 2020 Apocalypse or we'll all wake up in the morning & think wtf was that weird dream.

Talking of dreams mine have gone really weird. I'm now dreaming of everyday boring stuff like food shopping, going on a bus etc instead of my usual James Bond & flying escapades.

Pelleas · 07/06/2020 00:58

'Shielding' makes me think of the popular 1970s brand of stripy soap. It was supposed to have deodorising properties.

DamnYankee · 07/06/2020 01:00

@Nikhedonia

You're cool. It's all weird.

Pelleas · 07/06/2020 01:00

It was 'What Katy Did Next' in my case. Naval officer Ned Worthy-of-her secured an extra fourteen days' "furlough" to accompany Katy and co. to Venice, where he successfully wooed her in a gondola.

TracyBeakerSoYeah · 07/06/2020 01:00

I wouldn't try eating it Pelleas although it does smell rather nice.

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 01:01

It's weird to actually live in a period that you know will come up in the future history books.

I wonder if others who have lived through 'turbulent' times have thought that.

Ah, what I would give to be successfully wooed in a gondola right now!

I spent 2019 having therapy for OCD based on impending doom.
Turns out I wasn't nuts Grin

WhereYouLeftIt · 07/06/2020 01:03

"All we need now are some locusts."

Coming right up ...

On patrol with Kenya's locust hunters

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 01:04

@PastMyBestBeforeDate oh dear,GinCakefor you. I suppose your therapist had said that it was likely your OCD?

Shield soap, yes, I’m old enough to remember that.

I’m quite interested in words, they are pretty powerful. A lot of language recently is new, and a lot of it seems to have been nicked from other disasters. It doesn’t all fit.

Shielding reminds me of ‘shielding from nuclear radiation’ and ‘decontamination’ Reminds me of Chernobyl.

I think we need to get a bit of a grip.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 07/06/2020 01:07

Sort of. Lots of crap that led me to expect more crap. And here it is. Forewarned etc GinGinGin

DanglyTasselsOfThigh · 07/06/2020 01:09

I'm traumatised to fuck.

My business is slowly being rebuilt, I'm only a third way in. Everything is at a stake for me, my family and my staff and yet ...

I still think we'll make it as a world, i still believe we'll recover our core values and rebuild something good around that.

This is not ok for me or others but there must be something left.

I'm fucking hoping so or I'm done!

LadyConstanceDeCoverlet · 07/06/2020 01:10

To be fair, nobody could have coped with it.

But demonstrably, it's perfectly possible to cope with it much, much better than Johnson has. It's a real pity we didn't have a Merkel equivalent.

Pelleas · 07/06/2020 01:10

Ah, what I would give to be successfully wooed in a gondola right now!

As Kenneth Williams once said, 'Oooh, you can be as wooed as you like!'

Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 01:12

@PastMyBestBeforeDate I'm sorry you are right. Sad I hope you are coping ok

OP posts:
Nikhedonia · 07/06/2020 01:13

@Pelleas I just need the right man to come along and woo me! With all this social distancing it's rather unlikely!

DoubleDessertPlease · 07/06/2020 01:13

I really don’t agree, most countries have dealt with this a good deal better, some considerably better, NZ, etc. Why do we have such low standards for our leaders?

CountessFrog · 07/06/2020 01:14

You’re right, lady Constance.

Also, nice use of ‘demonstrably.’ It’s right up there with ‘arguably.’
