‘I don’t think the media can pipe down until they have secured the evidence. The appeals for information are being done SO that they can secure the evidence.
They know someone close to this man knows. He has confessed to a friend. They know the cause of death (presumably he said it in the chat room or to the friend). They just need someone to come out and testify to this, maybe a friend, conspirator, or ex. That is the point of making it so public. There will be no dna evidence now even if the cars hadn’t been scrapped. This will have to be done the old fashioned way, with info and confessions from people there at the time’
I really hope it doesn’t come down to this. The reality is that anyone coming forward to say this man spoke to them/ confessed is highly likely to be a dodgy character themself. Perhaps a career criminal wanted to do some sort of deal, a former cell mate or girlfriend with a grudge.... it becomes ones person’s word against another.
I’m reminded of the terrible Chillenden murders about 25 years ago when a mum and her daughters were bludgeoned. Two were killed and one daughter survived with horrendous injuries. Someone was convicted On the basis of a ‘confession’ to a cell mate. The cell mate witness later retracted his confession. There was no DNA from the man convicted despite items at the scene that he would have touched... clothing used to tie up the victims
Many years later the theory was put forward that the killer Of Milly Dowler and others may have been responsible.
There is highly unlikely to be any forensic evidence now. It really feels like clutching at straws by the German police. I’ve no doubt they want the guy put away for A very long time, but it’s no justice for MM if the wrong person is convicted.
That’s one of the risks with such a High profile case... people are out with their pitchforks and it’s a case of wanting someone to be held accountable. This guy is clearly a vile criminal, so I doubt anyone will shed a tear however long he’s banged up for whichever of his crimes. But I really hope they get this right. At least it’s not trial by jury in Germany which is probably a good thing when you look at some of the crazy opinions on these threads. We see the two extremes: from those who don’t seem to want anyone convicted because they’re just consumed with hatred towards the McCanns, to those who are practically saying ‘I’m sure it’s him.’
Makes you despair.
