Sending solidarity fist bumps to those sleep deprived 👊🏼 DD feeds throughout the night and wakes early. Thank god for DH now working at 9am so he can give me an hour on my own in the mornings if I need it.

Sorry to dementor your suggestions.... but a friend of mine got a gro-clock and her son used to stand at the threshold of his bedroom shouting "MUMMY! IT'S MORNING!!!" Grin

LivinLaVidaLoki · 03/06/2020 20:29

Am I misunderstanding something?
Are the deaths now "higher" because they are now counting pillar 2 deaths too? Every day, not just this back filled amount from the other day?
This is what does my head in.

bakingcupcakes · 03/06/2020 20:30

Something else which I was thinking about today is the people who are hearing impaired and the use of masks. It must be so difficult if you rely on lip reading. I was in boots earlier collecting something for my mum and I could barely understand the masked cashier. There's nothing wrong with my hearing usually. I genuinely think it was because of the mask.

BarkandCheese · 03/06/2020 20:30

I wish I could offer more than just a bit of verbal solidarity to those who are struggling. Flowers

Teatea
Yes and the "This is the new normal for the next thousand years" crap being spouted.

No its freaking not. Its so far away from normal for human beings 'it' cant see normal without the fecking Hubble Telescope.

Wtf are these people going to do when life does return to real normality and they cannot 'report', scaremonger, shout on SM or scream ITS A PANDEMIC!!!! at anyone who doesn't fit thier own little rigid margins of whats allowed?
Maybe they will lose their only reason for being and explode with frustration?

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 03/06/2020 20:35

There are some really nasty teachers on Mumsnet, aren’t there? Self righteous, judgemental, competitive and utterly ignorant of how people live. It’s obviously only a small minority but omg those teaching threads have produced some of the vilest, most bullying posts I have seen in 14 years of Mumsnetting. I am now hiding all the ones in my ‘threads I’m on’.

Teateaandmoretea · 03/06/2020 20:36

They are searching high and low for deaths. We will never ever get to zero for sure if what I’ve heard anecdotally is true.

The dementors take a pride in the UK having the worst death figures and don’t want to give up that position.

Teateaandmoretea · 03/06/2020 20:37

@Willow2017 couldn’t agree more. They are too dense to see it’s all an experiment.

Weedsnseeds1 · 03/06/2020 20:38

Woohoo, the lovely pub in Wales, that I have stayed at before, are licensed for key workers, happy to book me in and are talking about drinks in the garden when I get there. Never thought going to work would feel like a holiday Grin

onedayinthefuture · 03/06/2020 20:42

I was so happy to see kids playing together in the park (some in school uniform). Mums had obviously met up and there was no social distancing. Neighbours in my road are now just chatting normally and not at a distance. People are meeting up with friends and just walking alongside each other normally. Finally the boats are moving along the river, barges with people playing music enjoying themselves. A boating holiday would be perfect right now. That was my positivity today and then I came home and watched the daily briefing :(

Teateaandmoretea · 03/06/2020 20:42

The thing I actually dont get is the uproar about quarantine, other than if you work for an airline. Are people really intending to go abroad on holiday in the next few weeks? I have a caravan break booked in Wales for August that the dementors have already told me won’t be happening. Are people really intending on overseas travel shortly? I realise people have family overseas but we can’t stay over with uk-based family either right now. Or am I a ♟ in denial?

RubberDinghyRapids · 03/06/2020 20:43

@TheCountessofFitzdotterel Yep. Speaking as a woman who works in a role which is widely regarded on MN as being beyond useless and sub par, I still don't judge people for thinking that. Nor do I patronise or discredit their experience. They don't understand my job, just as I don't theirs.

I suggested on a thread elsewhere that people were dissatisfied with teachers refusing to engage with forward planning and was shot down immediately. Apparently picking apart the guidance and listing only the p
impracticalities is problem solving and we just don't understand.
Years of managers asking us to bring "solutions and not problems" and now I understand!

BarkandCheese · 03/06/2020 20:43

Don’t they just. I’m sure we can never truly compare countries death rates because each country will have a slightly different way of doing things. If what I’m reading here is true we seem to be scraping around to attribute as many deaths as possible to covid.

Yeah, I meant edit not preview

Loving the absolute irony of that statement. Grin

RubberDinghyRapids · 03/06/2020 20:46

If I was on twitter I would be hunting out the guys who write the Freakanomics books.... they must be furiously scribbling and planning a whole book based on the fiasco that is the recording, storage, interpretation and reporting of data at the moment.

Weedsnseeds1 · 03/06/2020 20:47

I pointed out that Belgium has the worst death rate in another thread. Shot down in flames - "not if you take into account excess deaths, we are the best at being worst"

Littlebelina · 03/06/2020 20:47

@LivinLaVidaLoki

No, you are not missing anything. I think it's important that the figures are accurate however when people are following figures day to day they should make it very clear they are changing how things are reported.
Drivingdownthe101 · 03/06/2020 20:48

The other thing I’ve found on the school threads is some teachers are incredulous that schools schools have to make any plans until they know exactly what the situation will be. For example ‘we only had 3 weeks to plan for schools reopening’. No, they had from when schools closed to plan for schools reopening. Of course those plans would need to be tweaked in accordance with government guidance, but surely they had some idea of what they would be asked to do? Social distancing etc? In all the (private sector) roles I’ve worked in, scenario planning was a pretty big thing. Not just waiting until the last minute then saying ‘we haven’t got enough time to implement that’.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 03/06/2020 20:48

It's just depressing when you see it falling and get positive and them bumph, they change the way they record it again and it goes up.
Dementors go mad, govt have another reason to keep us locked down.
I'm actually quite disproportionately upset about this as I cant see an end to any of it.

SudokuBook · 03/06/2020 20:49

The more deaths the better for the dementors

LivinLaVidaLoki · 03/06/2020 20:49

Thank you @Littlebelina
That's just it isnt it. They don't make it clear so to everyone following this, it feels like another stick they have to beat us with.

Teateaandmoretea · 03/06/2020 20:50

@Weedsnseeds1 how very dare you 🙄

BarkandCheese · 03/06/2020 20:51

It’s business travel I think rather than holidays. In normal times DH spends almost as much time abroad as he does at home and most of those trips are very short, usually just a night or two. Very much if this is Tuesday it must be Rome kind of thing. He can’t do that with the quarantine in place and most of he does abroad isn’t the kind of thing that can be done on a zoom meeting.

@Sallycinnamum

Dont go on the schools thread if you have high blood pressure! You have been warned!
Christ, that was an experience! Think I need a glass of wine after that lunacy.
Willow2017 · 03/06/2020 20:52

TheCountess
Yes its shocking isnt it?
Mind you its never been 'allowed' to question or criticize a teacher on here. Its always the kids fault never just a nasty teacher or one who got it wrong this time. Kid are all born liars and out to get teachers and parents are all bloody fools to ever believe thier kids. Sometimes i have waded in at the defence of posters as the abuse they received for asking about a bullying lying teacher was unbelievable.

I have known some lovely teachers over the years but also some bloody awful ones and ones who have seriously let my kids down. But on here all teachers are Gods who never put a finger wrong.

Well i hope when this is done people remember some of the posts on here proving they are anything but one huge angelic body.
There are self important, selfish, nasty people in every walk of life teachers are no different.

Makes me feel sick to think some of them are teaching children values and good citizenship!

But i cant say that anywhere but here😉
