@TrustTheGeneGenie I was reading a particularly dementory thread last night (can't remember which one now) but you'd commented a lot and with each response you seemed to be getting more worked up. Grin I can't comment on those threads because I can't face the backlash. It's like talking to a wall. No one listens.

SockYarn · 03/06/2020 18:00

People who make passive aggressive comments about how we should be relishing this time with our precious children should be taken out and publicly flogged.

Grrr.

Shodan · 03/06/2020 18:01

Sorry I know it was waaay back then but @Pleasedontdothat thanks for that link. My borough has 0 cases per 100 000 for the last week, which is fabulous news.

Drivingdownthe101 · 03/06/2020 18:01

Grrr.

I bet the people saying it don’t currently have school/nursery aged children.
Theluggage15 · 03/06/2020 18:03

I’m starting to feel they aren’t being very truthful. Vallance just saying at the briefing that the r rate is very high but not saying where. In hospitals, care homes, where? Blahing on about cases not falling fast, really?! Using the dodgy ONS guesswork of possibly 8000 cases but who knows.

Saying other countries saw cases rise after lifting lockdowns, giving Germany as an example! Germany had a couple of outbreaks in meat packing factories and their. R rate has continued to fall so what’s he talking about.

Boris talking about many many jobs being lost but not saying that one of the reasons so many businesses will close is their stupid 2 metre rule!

Why are they being so negative and determined to keep lockdown going for as long as possible? I really don’t get it.

God, I’m angry!!

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 03/06/2020 18:17

The people who tell me to relish this time tend to be grandparents who a) have rose tinted glasses and b) never had their children off school for 6 months with sweet FA to do with them! The rest are teachers!

RobinHobb · 03/06/2020 18:17

Angry too
What the actual fuck is going on? This has gone on too long

Teateaandmoretea · 03/06/2020 18:20

OMG I lost this when a previous thread filled up Grin

Why are they being so negative and determined to keep lockdown going for as long as possible? I really don’t get it.

Think about it from their point of view. Would you want to be the one who made the decision lowered the risk? Think of all the foul coverage/ blame/ political posturing that's going on......

I was! I've stopped now. I don't think it's good for me!

MinesaPinot · 03/06/2020 18:23

Theluggage15 I feel exactly the same. DH has been convinced for ages that they are massaging the figures to suit their negative narrative. I have no confidence in Boris - at PMQ today he was aggressive and defensive - and to me the Government have got themselves into this position and as ever have no idea how to move forward. They're like rabbits caught in the headlights.

I just can't see any way forward and I feel so depressed. I could cry with frustration. How did we get to this ffs.

Theluggage15 · 03/06/2020 18:23

Even angrier when I hear from my brother who lives in Holland and works in Germany and talks about things feeling so much more normal now. Out for dinner, shopping, bars etc. Says government is positive on messaging and about things getting back to normal and we just have the doom and gloom merchants saying things will never be normal.

BogRollBOGOF · 03/06/2020 18:34

The people who say relish the time with your children have never had DS1 yabbering on about geopolitics. Last night it was over an hour about China and financial imperialism (thanks DH for taking the brunt of that one). A few years ago when he was 6, we had over an hour of explaining how the aftermath of WW1 influenced the rise of "Titler" and the start of WW2 while stuck trying to get past Shrewsbury on a bank holiday. He still struggles to write his name, but goodness that child can talk in relentless detail.
I love him totally, but it's not fair on him monologing at the same 3 people for months Grin

Generally I think the dementoring cycles are weakening and becoming more of a minority, certainly across a broader range of subjects. Trivia now seems to be tolerated despite people DYING, and caps lock in general is so April 2020 Wink

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 03/06/2020 18:35

This is a great thread on the downwards trends. Shame the government and the media don’t report like this! mobile.twitter.com/cricketwyvern/status/1268218461139935234

MinesaPinot · 03/06/2020 18:36

The Government wouldn't know a positive message if it jumped up and smacked them in the faceAngry

MagdaS · 03/06/2020 18:37

Absolutely. I had someone on FB going on about focusing on what a unique opportunity this was. Fuck off.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 03/06/2020 18:39

It’s like a never ending Sunday before Sunday opening.

ISaySteadyOn · 03/06/2020 18:43

I am v low today hiding in my towel on the beach. The news from pp is good but given that the situation doesn't change, it doesn't help as much as it should.

I feel like a faulty spare part right now as I have failed at getting the DC to do any schoolwork or anything else useful. My dyspraxia is getting worse and tbh, it feels as though the only thing keeping me alive atm is the fact that, fatally flawed though I am, DH and the DCS seem to prefer having me around.

AnotherEmma · 03/06/2020 18:46

Does anyone know of any good sources of statistics that actually break down numbers of cases/deaths in care homes v hospitals v elsewhere?

Given that all the statistics are being lumped in together, and lots of deaths are being recorded as Covid even without symptoms or a positive test (or with underlying health conditions as the predominant factor), I am extremely skeptical about the statistics being used to justify continued restrictions for the entire population.

OP, unrelated but going back to this:
"When is this site going to join the twentieth century and gift us a preview function?"
I hate to break it to you but there's been a preview function for as long as I can remember Grin The preview button is right next to the post button (on the mobile site anyway) Wink

AnotherEmma · 03/06/2020 18:49

Btw, sorry to everyone who is struggling. Me too - massively. I'm just so angry about the whole shitshow. DS (3) was supposed to go back to nursery yesterday, but they delayed at the last minute due to plumbing problems and associated repairs (of all things) so we have to wait a bit longer. I'm happy for the children who have been able to go back but have been feeling gutted on a personal level. Also angry on behalf of all the children who don't seem to be allowed to go back any time soon. Still, some good news for Wales at least.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 03/06/2020 18:56

Schools reopening should have been a much higher priority. I’m very glad things are moving finally

Littlebelina · 03/06/2020 19:06

I made the mistake of wandering into the school thread. Angry

Anyway looks like ds might be able to go back into a keyworker bubble. No wrap around but it'll be so good for him

CruCru · 03/06/2020 19:10

Okay, off to check out the schools thread.

Drivingdownthe101 · 03/06/2020 19:15

@CruCru

Okay, off to check out the schools thread.
Don’t do it to yourself!
Sallycinnamum · 03/06/2020 19:17

Dont go on the schools thread if you have high blood pressure! You have been warned!

SomewhereEast · 03/06/2020 19:18

My theory is the Gov are absolutely desparate for people to download the track & trace app, so will keep up the dementoring till its launched.
