Shit! Is there anything I can do? Screwed up Tesco delivery.

My fault...I accidentally sent my (£200) Tesco delivery to our old address.

It’s registering as “delivered”. My son has run around there to see if they’ve taken it all in.

If they have and choose to keep it, what if anything can I do? Tesco customer service is closed at this time of night.

Can’t believe this has happened. We have very little money for more food 😥 I am such a fucking idiot.

You'd call the police because you sent shopping to someone else's house, you have no idea whether they accepted the delivery or not, and then sent your son round to knock on their door at close to midnight and were surprised when they didn't answer?

Even if Tesco confirm the shopping delivery was accepted, the best thing for the OP to do is to start by apologising to the householder for the inconvenience and disruption that the OP's mistake has caused to the householder.

If the delivery was rejected than an apology to the householder for the disturbance (twice) late at night would still be in order.

purpleboy · 02/06/2020 08:30

I hope you've got it sorted op.

Baxdream · 02/06/2020 08:30

It's 85 items now and it's easily done if there's meat, alcohol etc.

I could see me doing this, I should really delete my old addresses!

Soubriquet · 02/06/2020 08:30

Fingers crossed the people either didn’t answer the door or rejected it anyway and it was sent back

JustVisiting9 · 02/06/2020 08:31

I don't think £200 for 80 items is unreasonable. That's an average of £2.50 per item. If the order included a few expensive items (e.g large box of branded washing powder, bottle of wine/spirits etc) then it's not unreasonable.

frillyflamingo · 02/06/2020 08:31

Oh that's so shit if they accepted it!

TinySleepThief · 02/06/2020 08:31

I wouldve called the police, Fraud and Theft

Why, the OP doesn't even know if they accepted the food. How can anyone junp to accusing them of theft and fraud when we have no idea that they have done anything wrong!

TreeTopTim · 02/06/2020 08:31

I hope that you have calmed down now and phoned Tesco to see what happened. I do hope that you didn't go all guns blazing to the other house accusing them of stealing when you don't know what happened.

SecondaryBurnzzz · 02/06/2020 08:33

Looking forward to an update OP. Hope you got it sorted.

LucyTrainsDragons · 02/06/2020 08:34

Hope you get it sorted OP.

MsSquiz · 02/06/2020 08:35

@CottonSock we spent just under £150 on 50 items once, but that's not really the point...

The app automatically shows as "delivered" once the hour slot is passed.

First thing to do is call Tesco, explain you didn't realise it was set to be delivered to your old address.
Ask if delivery was made, if yes, ask if there's anything that can be done to help you. If not, apologise for the error and ask when delivery can be made today.

If the delivery was made, you should go round (not send your son) today and apologise for the inconvenience!
How can you say that they "refused to answer the door 5 mins after delivery" because you don't know when in the hour slot the delivery may have been made!! Or if the delivery was made at all?

FAQs · 02/06/2020 08:35

Would have called the Police Hmm lord.

AintNobodyHereButUsChickens · 02/06/2020 08:35

I hope you manage to get it all sorted OP, I'd be gutted Sad

Buttybach · 02/06/2020 08:36

Last year I did an order for a girl guide camp that was being held 20 miles away. We were awaiting the delivery when I had a call to say the man was on my doorstep and no one was answering. I had carefully selected the right address for the campsite. However I had added an extra bag of crisps last minute and it reverted to my home address! The man said they couldn't deliver elsewhere at all!!!
I asked if my neighbor could take it in. He was reluctant but by this point I was in tears as I had 30 kids to feed and £400 of food heading back to Tesco! Thankfully they let him leave it with the neighbors and my husband arrived 20 minutes later and had to drive it the 20 miles to me!

The systems are extremely fiddly when it comes to addresses.

EmbarrassedUser · 02/06/2020 08:37

My guess is they declined it. If they HAVE taken it then they would still be up putting away at least the frozen stuff. If I got it then that’s what I’d do assuming the owner would be around soon. Fingers crossed it’ll be sorted soon.

MsSquiz · 02/06/2020 08:37

To the posters who are saying Tesco should refund the OP, can I ask why?
It was the OP's error, not Tesco's, and while it might be a nice gesture, they really don't have to do anything

Bertucci · 02/06/2020 08:38

No-one in their right mind would open the door to a Tesco delivery they hadn’t ordered and just accept it.

There must be something else that has gone wrong here.

backseatcookers · 02/06/2020 08:42

I wouldve called the police, Fraud and Theft

She has no idea what's happened yet @lollypop4!

I wouldn't answer my door to a bloke I didn't know at 11 at night. They have no obligation to do so.

I think he was being sent over again at 8 this morning, in the meantime they have no idea what the situation is.

You'd actually ring the police, or you're just saying that on the internet? If you actually would then it's people like you who put ridiculous pressure on the police service wasting their time.

Fruitteatime · 02/06/2020 08:43

This happened to us a few months ago. Luckily it was my mums address and she refused the delivery, as she is 100 miles away from us. Tesco actually said it was the systems fault and for some reason it was defaulting to old addresses on occasion. I'm still not convinced that I just didn't check properly. They tried to phone me but had a random number on their system. They refunded the full amount and we rebooked the delivery for the next day. Obviously this is different because the food was accepted and it may not be possible to get a new delivery slot the next day due to current demand. I really hope you get a refund. Surely they'll see how many times you've ordered to your enw address and take pity. It's disgusting to accept the food, unless they planned to get it to you somehow Angry

Highfivemum · 02/06/2020 08:47

Fingers crossed they refused delivery. 🤞🤞

curtainsforme · 02/06/2020 08:49

@Lollypop4

I wouldve called the police, Fraud and Theft .

Surely not?

The first thing the police would do would to to ask OP what happened. She doesn't even know yet Hmm

Are you usually a waster of police time?

Squaffle · 02/06/2020 08:50

@heartsonacake Not sure where I said Tesco is at fault? Just thought it might be useful info, sorry it wasn’t useful to you.

ArriettyJones · 02/06/2020 08:51

Phone CAB and/or police non emergency number and ask what you can do.

Get. A. Grip.

She hasn’t even phoned Tesco yet.

Lsquiggles · 02/06/2020 08:53

Did you go round OP? I really hope this has been a mix up and they haven't stole your shopping! Shock

heartsonacake · 02/06/2020 08:54

Squaffle Not sure where I said that you said Tesco were at fault?

I was pointing out that your situation was totally different to the OP’s and so the information is not useful in this case, and then explained why.
