Shit! Is there anything I can do? Screwed up Tesco delivery.

My fault...I accidentally sent my (£200) Tesco delivery to our old address.

It’s registering as “delivered”. My son has run around there to see if they’ve taken it all in.

If they have and choose to keep it, what if anything can I do? Tesco customer service is closed at this time of night.

Can’t believe this has happened. We have very little money for more food 😥 I am such a fucking idiot.

As if you’d accept a massive food delivery you hadn’t ordered Shock

DobbyTheHouseElk · 02/06/2020 08:05

I wouldn’t accept someone else’s shopping. Why would anyone do that. We all eat different things.

TinySleepThief · 02/06/2020 08:06

Well to be fair we don't know that they did. The most likely outcome is that they didn't accept the delivery and it went back to the depot.

Mawbags · 02/06/2020 08:08

Imagine the sheer ballache of auditing the stuff when you’re trying to reclaim it!! Let’s hope it wasn’t all out away... argh.

Hanamuslim · 02/06/2020 08:08

Here's another thought OP. I actually wouldn't want the shopping back if those people have accidentally taken it in. I would see if Tesco could re do the order for you. That person could have covid 19 and has touched your shopping. Unless you're prepared to disinfect everything when it comes home. A lot of people naturally do that anyway. Even clothes I have bought on AsdaGeorge I have put on the machine straight away when they were delivered!

Hanamuslim · 02/06/2020 08:08

Put in* the machine!

flibbertmygibbert · 02/06/2020 08:08

I’m impressed you managed to spend £200 on 80 items!

DH very easily would. He would just assume it was something I had ordered. So would DS. DD might realise it was odd, but nit necessarily. Grocery deliveries don’t even come with paperwork any more. You just squiggle on the PDA doodah, and you’re looking at the total, not the name.

OTOH, maybe OP’s delivery was rejected by the poor householders who were disturbed so late at night. You can’t assume the Tesco status is accurate without talking to them.

heartsonacake · 02/06/2020 08:11

I would see if Tesco could re do the order for you.

Hanamuslim I very much doubt they’re going to redo £200 worth of shopping at their own cost because OP made a mistake.

CodenameVillanelle · 02/06/2020 08:12

I'm sure they would if she paid for it but why should they do it for free?

YorkshireParentalPerson · 02/06/2020 08:12

Tesco automatically Mark their orders as delivered once it gets past the delivery slot. Had this happen to us a couple of times. So it may show as delivered but not actually have done so.

00Sassy · 02/06/2020 08:13

Hi OP, hope you managed to get some sleep.

It’s understandable that you felt a mix of emotions (that’s a lot of money to potentially lose, plus the knock on effect) and perhaps acted hastily sending your son last night.
I’d be beside myself if I’d made such an error, you have my sympathy as we all make mistakes.

Give Tesco a call as soon as you are able and explain.
In my experience they’re customer services are really good.

Come back and update please, I’m hoping to hear that everything worked out well Flowers

flibbertmygibbert · 02/06/2020 08:13

I’m sure the neighbours just sent it back anyway. Do you not have a mobile number on your account. I sent it to the wrong address once and the Tesco man just rang me and asked where I was!

Quirrelsotherface · 02/06/2020 08:14

Hope you get it back, OP. They'd have to be a certain type of cretin to have taken it for themselves.

WeAllHaveWings · 02/06/2020 08:14

Tesco customer service for online deliveries is open from 7am. First thing to do is call, admit it is your error and ask to confirm if the delivery actually took place and if there is anything they can do to help. They might have come across this before and can offer advice. Ask them for proof of delivery for small claims court.

Wait until late morning and go knock on the door again. Tell them the delivery they had yesterday was yours and you would like it back. If they don't return the full shop to you or pay you for the shopping tell them you will either report as theft to the police or raise a small claims action. Keep calm and factual.

Phone CAB and/or police non emergency number and ask what you can do.

m0therofdragons · 02/06/2020 08:18

I did this - the tesco app had a glitch which customer service had to sort out as it kept defaulting back to my old address once I got to the payment screen. The first time I didn’t notice so assumed I’d been an idiot. Luckily they said I didn’t live there and wasn’t far away and the driver called my mobile to get my new address. I was very apologetic. I can’t believe someone would take in food they didn’t order. That said, if food came here and I wasn’t home dh would accept it as he’d assume if forgotten to mention it.

SeasonFinale · 02/06/2020 08:20

Wow - people saying name and shame on Facebook in the middle of the night when noone even knows if the delivery has even been accepted or turned away yet!

Further it a man was hammering on my door at gone 11pm during lockdown I would not necessarily be opening it.

I suspect like most people they just said we haven't placed an order.

CottonSock · 02/06/2020 08:21

Yes, also wonder how you spent 200 on 80 items. You were out of order to send your son late at night. My sympathy diminished after reading that.

Someone took in my tesco delivery once, delivered to wrong address by driver. Tesco eventually refunded me reluctantly after the driver had to go and show his manger which house. They didn't tell me where my shopping ended up.

razey · 02/06/2020 08:22

Well it is theft if they know the property is not for them, and refuse to give it back

Lollypop4 · 02/06/2020 08:23

I wouldve called the police, Fraud and Theft .

SomeBunnyovertheRainbow · 02/06/2020 08:24

I hope they didn’t take it on OP and that you get your shopping or a refund.

I do think that you should not disturb them too late at night or too early on the morning (I’d say not before 9) and do not put anything on social media until you know what the position is.

As PPs said, someone could have taken the groceries in without realising they were not for them. If I was in bed my DH might not know what I’ve ordered and whether it was for us and, similarly, I have had shopping delivered to my parents.

Also as PPs say, I’m not sure I’d want it if they’d unpacked it but then I do try to clean my shopping anyway.

Please keep us updated OP.

quietheart · 02/06/2020 08:24

Hopefully it wasn't delivered and the system is showing an error. As for taking the shopping in this could easily happen in our house sometimes the person who orders it is not the person who is at home when it is delivered.

I might look at it and think oh that's not our usually order wtf has he been buying, but DH would just take it in and put it away. Especially if it was so late at night.

lastqueenofscotland · 02/06/2020 08:25

Called the police when we don’t even know if the people actually took it in? Absolute nonsense.

ConcernedSpouse2020 · 02/06/2020 08:26

....

Doyoumind · 02/06/2020 08:27

My 80 item shop is far less than £100 so £200 is definitely good going.
