Shit! Is there anything I can do? Screwed up Tesco delivery.

My fault...I accidentally sent my (£200) Tesco delivery to our old address.

It’s registering as “delivered”. My son has run around there to see if they’ve taken it all in.

If they have and choose to keep it, what if anything can I do? Tesco customer service is closed at this time of night.

Can’t believe this has happened. We have very little money for more food 😥 I am such a fucking idiot.

How old is the son? Just nosey!!

PegasusReturns · 02/06/2020 00:24

I wouldn’t be surprised if the system shows it as delivered even if it wasn’t accepted so still a chance that they don’t have it.

Either way there’s no way I’d be opening the door to someone hammering on my door at close to midnight.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 02/06/2020 00:27

I wouldn't answer the door this late at night either.

But they opened the door to the Tesco driver? OP’s son knocked within 5 minutes of the delivery

If your local police force has a live chat service, ask them for advice.

Thesearmsofmine · 02/06/2020 00:30

We don’t know that they answered the door and accepted the delivery because OP hasn’t spoken to Tesco. Most likely the Tesco system will update to delivery once the time slot has passed, I’ve had the same from another supermarket when I hadn’t received my order because it was late.

RoseMartha · 02/06/2020 00:31

When my shopping has been late and the driver has not called, my shopping will show as delivered as it is past the slot. So there is a good chance it went back with the driver to tesco.

TurkeyBasterHopeItWorks · 02/06/2020 00:38

Hi OP,

I’m sorry to hear this has happened. I work in a supermarket (not Tesco) and although they close at 9pm the phone line is always open 24 hours, I think that is the same for all our chain of supermarkets. The duty manager answers any calls. Could you google to find your local Tesco store phone number and try and see if anyone is available to speak to? They might be able to check on the system and find out if the driver put a note on there to say delivery returned to store or something. It’s just a thought.
I hope you get your shopping in the morning one way or another.

Fruitbatdancer · 02/06/2020 00:39

There’s a chance they didn’t take it in / answer door that late.
Last week I got a Tesco delivery contactless left at door, half stuff wasn’t mine - nightmare. I contacted them and they said I should keep it all and they refunded me what I was missing (they gave me 2 of someone else’s baskets.) due to covid they would take returns so we ended up with 72 Kit Kat’s and loads of other great stuff!
Honestly Tesco are pretty reasonable- call them first thing, explain it was a glitch on the app etc. All is not lost.

TenShortStories · 02/06/2020 00:40

To be fair, accepting the food doesn't automatically mean it was malicious. You could have for example, mum is the one ordering the food. She's gone to bed already, the door bell rings with a food delivery and the son just assumes she organised it but forgot to mention anything. Perfectly reasonable to take it in and put the shopping away in that sort of scenario.

It wouldn't in my house because I'd know that I'm the only one who orders food but I can see it happening in other households.

Fingers crossed they are decent and it can be sorted in the morning!

ChicCroissant · 02/06/2020 00:40

The OP has no idea of what happened to her delivery yet - better to speak to Tesco first before you go round or use social media!

Shinesweetfreedom · 02/06/2020 00:41

Phone Tesco. If they say it has been delivered, all troop round there.
What are they going to do call the police

Dunking · 02/06/2020 00:42

This is disgusting behaviour! I hope you get it back !!!

This.

Honestly Tesco are pretty reasonable- call them first thing, explain it was a glitch on the app etc

But it wasnt a glitch on the app. The op made a mistake

I agree with pp theres probably a good chance Tesco will have had your order returned to them 🤞

NoSquirrels · 02/06/2020 00:53

Be as nice as you can. I know it seems like monumental shitbag behaviour (and probably it is!) but you catch more flies with honey...

If you can bear, go back tonight with a note to stick through the door to say something like:

Dear No. 20

I am so sorry - I've accidentally sent my Tesco shopping delivery to our old address... your address! My son tried knocking as soon as we realised but I know it was a really late delivery slot so no answer. I feel mortified. It shows as 'delivered' so I guess you are wondering what to do with it!

I will call around in the morning about 8ish before work, but if that's not convenient please call or text me on XXXXXXXX

Thanks
X

3cats · 02/06/2020 01:00

I agree that you don't know for sure that it was malicious. I do the online shop but often I'm not home from work when it's delivered, so my kids take it in and put it away. All you can do is wait until the morning and hope for the best. It was a costly mistake to make.

SleightOfMind · 02/06/2020 01:01

Is your payment method registered at the old address or new?

user1481840227 · 02/06/2020 01:02

You don't know that they have it.

They might have refused it. They might have had to get out of bed to refuse the delivery!
Then your son might have freaked them out knocking at that time of night.
and now you want to possibly wake them up at 8am!

My God just ring Tesco first and find out if it's there instead of tormenting these people when you don't even know if the shopping is there!

Snozzlemaid · 02/06/2020 01:05

Maybe they took it in with the intention of contacting you tomorrow about it. It is very late to be contacting anyone now.

Wilson79 · 02/06/2020 01:05

We did this last month but managed to ring Tesco who called the driver to divert which was great as we are currently shielding. If they can’t deliver then you’ll get an automatic refund so wouldn’t worry. Just a pain you’ll have to find another slot.

BlueBooby · 02/06/2020 01:07

You dont know for sure they accepted the delivery and if they did it could be a couple for eg where one accepted thinking the other had ordered (and the other was in bed).

Check with them and/or Tesco tomorrow. I'd be more likely to answer the door at that time of night if I saw a delivery van outside than if I saw a stranger knocking, so that could explain why they didn't answer to your son and did take the delivery(if they did). Hopefully it's just been a misunderstanding of that sort and fingers crossed you get your shopping or your money back, but I wouldn't be making a fuss on social media just yet.

Londoner99 · 02/06/2020 01:11

That's awful, I hope you get your shopping in the morning. One thing I would say is that you should do right now is delete your old address on your Tesco page if you haven't already!

Pixxie7 · 02/06/2020 01:17

If you put the wrong address on it surely Tesco’s haven’t actually done anything wrong? The people at the address maybe but as previous poster said they may be shielding or anything.

Didkdt · 02/06/2020 01:23

We have a postcode that gives a different address for some sat navs, we always mention this in the notes
The person at that address has taken in everything, takeaways shoppnig and passports, even recently taken in a bloody single shoe with DDs block in it. Never returned despite knocks and notes
Sometimes the driver goes to get the delivery back and for some reason they get a reply but our attempts go unanswered
I have no idea why they are like this fear greed or guilt '
You may or may not get your shopping back, but do you want it now it has been in someone else's home?

Namechangeapril20 · 02/06/2020 01:24

You still dont know if they accepted it, or if they even answered the door to Tesco - it could just be an automated message from Tesco.

Calm down, speak to tesco tomorrow before you start harassing these people - for all you know at the minute they arent guilty of what you're accusing them of!

8am is too early to go round. Speak to tesco first.

If they do have your order, It could be something innocent like a son/daughter/husband/wife accepting a delivery that they assumed was made by another family member who is out - maybe they havent realised it's a mistake yet!

To be fair, it was your mistake they were sent to the wrong address. If you graciously approach it as such instead of accusing people, ask nicely for help rectifying the situation that you caused, you'll find you'll probably get your groceries back a lot quicker.

If they have been in anyway deceitful, itll come to light and you'll still get sorted out, but you wont have made a dick of yourself in the process. I certainly wouldn't be "naming and shaming" people on social media either, particularly as you dont know what has happened as it's too late to find out tonight. If you were hammering my door at 11 at night and then 8 in the morning I would not be amused. Especially if your justification was "I'm allowed to be rude because you were rude for stealing my groceries" when you dont know if that's the case.
