What would you buy yourself as a treat right now if you had the money to do so?

If you had some spending money to buy yourself a treat, what would you get?

Ordinarily I might buy myself a new pair of shoes or some makeup, but that feels rather pointless given no one is going to notice on a video call. I also don't want to buy something that has a high chance of needing to be returned, so thing like bras are definitely out because those need to be tried on in person.

I might get my hair done, but hairdressers aren't open for business.

So... what would you buy?

(I'm budgeting for the month ahead and would typically set aside a little bit of money for fun spends, but I'm struggling to think of how I would actually use that budget right now. First world problems, I know.)

I did just this last month - I bought a Verry Kerry dressing gown. Have wanted one for ages and could not afford it, but couple of months of no social life meant I could justify it. It's as lovely as I hoped it would be.

returnofthecat · 30/05/2020 22:22

I had to look that up - I hadn't heard of Verry Kerry before.

This one looks gorgeous: www.verrykerry.com/orchard-blossom-organic-cotton-dressing-gown.html

I think I would be tempted to answer the door wearing it! Some of those dressing gowns are really pretty.

Yarn to crochet myself a blanket.

I'm always jealous of people who can crochet, knit and sew! Zero ability here.

I ordered myself an ice-making machine the other night. I had one, but it's in storage at the moment, waiting for us to renovate and extend the house - which should have happened this year but, due to coronavirus, hasn't. This one is half the price of my previous one, and comes from Japan, so hoping it'll get here before the weather changes! It's a lovely little bit of luxury :)

SpeedofaSloth · 30/05/2020 22:30

I just bought myself a necklace. I have worked long hours throughout and DH suggested that maybe a treat for me was in order, partly for keeping going (NHS) and partly as a reminder of this time. (He is very proud of me just now, bless him, he's a good 'un.)

TokyoSushi · 30/05/2020 22:31

Really nice pyjamas or nice new duvet cover set.

zeddybrek · 30/05/2020 22:33

Nice crop top, pestle and mortar, air purifier. A bit random but are things I would use a lot but am saving for good quality items so they last.

KaTetof19 · 30/05/2020 22:35

I'd buy myself a Kindle Oasis. My 1st gen one is on its last legs and the Oasis looks perfect...except for the £300+ price tag.

Given that I struggle to spend £10 on just myself I can't see that being a purchase sadly.

LunaNorth · 30/05/2020 22:36

A new food processor. The blade keeps getting stuck on my very fecking expensive Kitchen Aid one (bought when I actually had some money) so it’s dangerous and unusable.

I’d also like a bottle of Narciso Rodriguez Poudree, a garden sofa and chairs and a Dyson hairdryer.

I don’t ask for much...Blush

returnofthecat · 30/05/2020 22:37

@Inextremis, if you've had an ice machine before, I bet you've chosen wisely, so that should be a lovely treat for you when it arrives.

Your DH isn't the only one proud of you, @SpeedofaSloth! Doubling up something pretty with a reminder of your hard work is such a lovely idea.

@TokyoSushi I'm now pondering a weighted blanket, now you've brought up bed stuff... I've always half-wanted one of those. I'm also thinking back to @Bananasplitlady's dressing gown suggestion. Something comfy to use at home would at least get used a lot.

@zeddybrek Not random in the least. I remember saving up for some good knives a few years back. Might not have been everyone's idea of a treat, but they were a really good brand and I cook with them a lot!

@KaTetof19 I keep putting things in my online shopping trolley then taking them out again because they feel a bit too indulgent, so I do get that. If your Kindle is on its last legs, it must be something you've had a lot of use out of it and know you enjoy? Is the £300 within your budget (if you save up for it)?

I've just treated my self to a big new framed print for the wall.

I'd also like:

  • some pots and plants to brighten up the garden
  • lovely new bedding

Maybe something to support a couple of small local businesses?

returnofthecat · 30/05/2020 22:40

@LunaNorth Ooh, a Dyson hairdryer! Have you actually used one in person or are you just coveting one from the photos? I do like the idea of one, I just worry it wouldn't live up to the hype in my head. Plus for me, my hair is too far gone now right now. I would need a haircut before considering buying a fancy hairdryer and I think that's some time off...

A food processor isn't a bad idea. I do like kitchen things and have more luck justifying them to myself as they're sort of practical...

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie I did a lot of that at the start of lockdown (before many of the food places closed) and my waistline has suffered. I might do some research to see what local businesses there are that I would like to support who don't just sell food... Wink

A comfy reclining sunlounger chair for the garden. One of those sturdy wooden ones with a big thick cushioned pad on. But everywhere seems to be sold out anyway

LunaNorth · 30/05/2020 22:44

@returnofthecat I stayed in a hotel that had one in the room. Until then I thought they were just hype, but it gave me lovely swishy, glossy hair that actually stayed in shape and dried so quickly!

I’d love one. Total convert.

Gazelda · 30/05/2020 22:46

I've ordered some jewellery from an independent seller in Scotland. It's made to order, so I'm very excited!

Itwasntme1 · 30/05/2020 22:47

I have already treated myself to new bedding, a new dressing gown and a new lamp for my home office. Also lots of flowers for the garden. I have also ordered a customer made cushion for my bench. There has also been a very expensive order op from Clinique and a box of treats from lush.

I have promised myself the spending must stop. But if I had limitless finances I would treat myself to a garden make over! New fences, lawn relaid and a new patio.

Tana433 · 30/05/2020 22:49

A treadmill but i need a folding one as i have no room to keep it . They are either massively expensive or (the only one i could afford) doesnt do home delivery and i dont drive.

stardance · 30/05/2020 22:51

A lazy spa!

redbigbananafeet · 30/05/2020 22:51

Bananasplitlady Ooooh which one did you go for? Are they cotton or silky? X

KitchenConfidential · 30/05/2020 22:55

A rhoomba (or similar brand) robot vacuum cleaner. I’ve realised I really like and need a super clean house for my own well-being but really don’t like vacuuming.

Spain1 · 30/05/2020 22:55

New slippers

returnofthecat · 30/05/2020 22:57

@Tana433 I've been eyeing those up too, but where I live it would be massively inconsiderate towards the neighbours. We're all home every day, so not the best time to fall out...

@LunaNorth Definitely putting that on my post-lockdown wish list then... Grin

I must say, I'm very jealous of how many of you have gardens! Smile

A new bed (would also need anew house to fit it in)
