What's the weirdest thing you've found left in a house you've just bought?

In my case - a pet urn. A full one.

A box of biscuits under a kitchen unit.
A pink thong in the airing cupboard.
An overflowing skip blocking the garage.

A ponytail of waist-length, thick, dark blonde human hair - looked like it had been chopped off all in one go. Found it in the outside bin in the back garden the day I moved in. It baffled me why anyone would want to part with such lovely hair.

Naturally, I took it out of the bin and chased my housemate around the yard with it (student house, many moons ago!)

My husband lived in a student flat where they had cut the ratty dreadlock/plait thing off one housemate and then pinned it to the noticeboard where it stayed for years. I did not really sit down on that flat, more hovered over the furniture. Confused

The old owners vibrator and a feather in a pouch

A knuckle duster with pointy edges facing outwards, it would have left 4 serious dents in someone's head if ever used!

Little photos of the previous bitch owner. On the first big clean (seconds after we opened the door) I found loads in every crevice. Then it just got weird. Lift up a carpet to replace it, there'd be a picture. New bath, picture of her.

She also left four cats and loads of shit.

CaroleBaskin · 01/06/2020 21:47

Our Rottweiler was a big fan of the cats.

I’ve rented for the passed 10 years and lived in 3 houses. In the first you couldn’t even get into the loft for the bags that were up there. Dh managed to pull them out and one of them had a lovely prom(I think) dress in. Was a sky blue ball gown with lots of sparkles on. Looked very expensive.

2nd house. Loads of old vhs. An old tv with no plug. 4 DVD players. God knows how much tat. A lot of rentals have full lofts because some tenants decide to just throw all their crap up there rather than throw it out

House I now live in. Thought I’d struck gold. Nothing weird but they did leave 2 gorgeous mirrors and some kitchen bits. Popped my head in the loft and it looked empty! Then after Xmas (we’d bought new Xmas things) went to put decks in loft and Dh said he could see loads of soil, plant pots etc. Turns out there was a space behind the chimney breast that you can’t see unless you go in the loft and round there and they’d stashed all their weed growing stuff. Called landlord, who was less than impressed and he called someone out to get rid of it all.

Turns out previous tenants were the local weed dealers from what next door has told me.

A small collection of ‘friends like us’ ‘you’re my bestie’ type wooden plaques. Looks like someone wasn’t as friendly as they thought 😂

A cardboard box lined in a white silky scarf and containing the most realistic doll I have ever seen. I about shit myself as I thought it was a baby.

Delbelleber · 01/06/2020 23:30

Ex pil bought a house with loads of stuff left behind including an Italian postcard with a baby on it but the weird thing was the baby was the double of ds and if I hadn't not recognised the background in the picture I would have thought it was a photo of ds.

A badge that says 'I love country music'.

Deathraystare · 02/06/2020 11:22

What with all the sanitary towels and tampons??

In the flats I used to live, when an old lady moved out/died/whatever, the landlord found loads of black plastic bags full of her poo!

BearBearBearBear · 02/06/2020 11:25

A vintage dior scarf. Ovs kept it.
