Mine was Claire,it was on the radio when I was born.
Luckily I wasn't called it as there where loads of them about.

Cecilia.

I really love that name.

custardbear · 28/05/2020 21:20

Ainsley or ... Prudence! 🤢
Quite like ainsley though

Real name similar level of unusualness in U.K.

SingleHandSue · 28/05/2020 21:20

I was going to be Rebecca. Then I was born and apparently I didn’t look like a Rebecca.

My mum’s favourite footballer had had a daughter just before I was born so I ended up with the same first and middle name as her.

Mmsnet101 · 28/05/2020 21:23

Marsali (hate) or Eilidh (would have preferred), but my dad couldn't pronounce either properly (Gloucestershire accent, we're Scottish in Scotland). Instead I got one of the most common names of the 90s and he fucked off when I was a baby so didn't really matter in the end!

GlendaSugarbeanIsJudgingYou · 28/05/2020 21:23

I like Prudence. :o

Musicalmistress · 28/05/2020 21:25

Zenobia - to be fair it was the 70's!

Kljnmw3459 · 28/05/2020 21:26

Agneth. DF liked the name, thankfully DM vetoed it and I got a nice boring name instead.

DinosApple · 28/05/2020 21:27

I was nearly a Jesse if I was a boy. It might be ok now, but I'd have had the shit kicked out of me in the 80s where we lived. And my brother, who was 4, wanted to call me Bunsford if I was a boy...

Thankfully I'm female and got a classic name!

Rinoa · 28/05/2020 21:28

Connie

Wyewaving · 28/05/2020 21:30

Amber. My dad vetoed it after I was born.

Jellybeanduck · 28/05/2020 21:32

Rachel, but I have an older cousin already called that and my mum didn’t want to be accused of copying.

Kenworthington · 28/05/2020 21:32

Jemima. Which I would have preferred to my actual name (claire (meh)) my mum chose it because it couldn’t be shortened. Aside from that being a shit reason for a name, it’s the very reason I don’t like it, because no options!! I don’t even have a cool middle name to fall back on

Joolsin · 28/05/2020 21:33

@motorcyclenumptiness

David - but then I went and let the side down by not being a boy
Snap!! Got a classic 60s girls name instead
pallisers · 28/05/2020 21:34

Abigail

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 28/05/2020 21:35

If I had been a boy I would have been Kevin. My youngest brother would have been Jolene if he had been a girl.

LittlePeepoToy · 28/05/2020 21:35

Nikita

irecitethegruffaloinmydreams · 28/05/2020 21:36

Mercedes or Esmeralda. Mercedes would have been particularly bad as my surname is Mediterranean and begins with M, so together would have had a definite exotic dancer vibe.

Although my parents also couldn't agree on my name and reached a weird compromise where they referred to me by my second name (also fairly hideous).

Frankly they could have done with Mumsnet to knock some sense into them.

LittlePeepoToy · 28/05/2020 21:38

If my dd would have been boy she’d be Jonah and if ds a girl Harriet.
If I’d have been a boy I’d be Paul.

Knowivedonewrong · 28/05/2020 21:41

Claire or Samantha. I would much rather have any of those two than the name my parents gave me.

HazelBite · 28/05/2020 21:42

The family name on my fathers side of the family (ie one in each generation going back many years) was Ebeneezer, my poor mother was "told" when pregnant with her first child, that as that child was the first of that generation, should it be a boy then it had to be one of "his" names.
My Mum was praying for a daughter, but when my brother was born my dad went and registered his birth without telling his Ddad, needless to say Ebeneezer was not one of my brothers names, a cousin born six months later got saddled with that Grin

TalbotAMan · 28/05/2020 21:46

Well, I was born in the pre-scan days so parents (well mine anyway) had names ready for a boy and a girl. Had I been a girl, I would have been Ruth.

BillyAndTheSillies · 28/05/2020 21:46

I was meant to be Maud or Emily. But my parents adopted a cat called Emily when mum was pregnant so they didn't want people to think I was named after the cat.

I'm not a big fan of my actual name but given I was born in the late 80's and not 1930 I think I dodged a bullet with Maud.

StCharlotte · 28/05/2020 21:46

Victoria. Don't know why they didn't. Daniel if I was a boy. My name's okay.

My sisters have beautiful names which they hate but which I've always envied.

TiddyTid · 28/05/2020 21:48

Fleur, but dad was having none of it!

mathanxiety · 28/05/2020 22:08

Mum wanted Suzanne, dad preferred Susannah. I wish dad had won.
