Properly violet or green eyes?

Other than fictitious characters do you know anyone, or do you have, these coloured eyes? I mean like really intense green or vivid purple? I’ve never seen anyone with any but would love to! Would love to have them myself too rather than my own sludgy brown, supremely inefficient ones!

My DGM had intense green eyes. Unfortunately dark brown was more common in her family, so that's what I've inherited.

justilou1 · 29/05/2020 02:07

I was talking to a geneticist friend today about how blue eyes turn green, and she asked about my skin colour and ancestry (mixed-breed European), but she remembered that I have coeliac disease, which is passed through the generations from Viking stock. According to her, there is a mostly harmless mutation called Gilbert Syndrome that makes you store bilirubin (a liver enzyme) which makes your skin appear more golden than it’s previous pink shade (yes) and your eyes appear green rather than their previous blue. This increases over your lifetime. This is happening for me. Thanks, random Viking from god knows when!

I’ve never seen violet eyes and would love to! All of my dad’s side have blue eyes (and black hair).
I’m some genetic throwback, apparently my great great gran on my mum’s side had green eyes.
I’ve met lots of people with green eyes. Mine are moss green. They make turquoise shades look blue. I can’t wear “green” eyeshadow because it looks blue (and that’s way too 80sGrin

Anyway. You can see mine here. These aren’t my pics, so if you recognise them, thank you for taking them, please just don’t post my name Grin

Justilou what about us middle eastern lot, lots of green eyed people there! I doubt it was from vikings. Mutation sounds likely also because I have heterochromia, one of my eyes is half amber (top half).

@Runkle
Your eyelashes! They're amazing!

Downunderduchess · 29/05/2020 04:18

I have green eyes! I’ve always liked them. This is me.

sashh · 29/05/2020 06:38

My dad and a cousin have green eyes.

My dad's eyes reflect colours around him, if you saw him in a blue jumper you would swear his eyes were blue.

Has anyone else noticewd how many actors have green eyes? And not just white actors.

justilou1 · 29/05/2020 07:25

@GreenyEyedMonstet - I was referring to one specific, weird gene mutation that I had never heard of. (Also something else to blame my mother for 🤪 - comes from her line). It’s very common in Scandinavia and slightly less so in Scotland. There are of course other reasons for green eyes.

Soubriquet · 29/05/2020 07:31

I have green eyes but not bright green. They have a brownish background but they are green

Dd has a sea blue with a hint of green eyes. Beautiful

Ds has bright blue eyes just like his dad

LucyTrainsDragons · 29/05/2020 10:36

@GreenyEyedMonstet your eyes are a beautiful colour!

I think eyes can look more vibrant depending on your skin tone, hair colour, sunlight etc.

I have hazel eyes and the green in them can ‘pop’ with different colour make up, if the light catches them, if I cry, when my hair was dark (now blonde) or if my olive skin becomes darker on holiday. Otherwise they can look brown.

Here’s my ‘green’ eyes with a splodge of brown. I’m sure the circle around the green is blueish? My Mum has blue eyes and my Dad had green eyes, my Nan had pure brown eyes so possibly a combination of all three.

I find people’s eyes who are different colours, one brown one blue for example, utterly mesmerising.

Excuse the scary eye look, I was pulling a face! Grin

My sister has incredibly green eyes. Strangers often comment on them, and people often think they are contact lenses.

SansaClegane · 29/05/2020 10:51

Gosh I love seeing all those different eye colours. Isn't it amazing how unique they are.
Mine are bog standard brown, although I sometimes get told they're the same colour as my hair (which is auburn?!).
Eldest DC has dark brown eyes, youngest DC hazel. Middle DC has grey-blue eyes although neither me, nor XH, nor any of our parents or siblings have blue eyes Grin he has got some great-grandparents with blue eyes though so it's amazing to see how genetics work.

LucyTrainsDragons · 29/05/2020 11:09

Ds must have the brown gene from my side of the family, he hasn’t got any green whatsoever but I love his eyes which can almost appear amber in different lights.

My ex had very striking eyes - they were a very bright amber, almost gold. He had quite a big nose too so he looked like an owl 😂

ScruffbagsRUs · 29/05/2020 21:27

I have icy green eyes like a mint-green colour, with a very prominent freckle, which makes it look like I have a hole in the iris. When my eyes go red after crying or when the wind catches them and makes them water, the colour becomes more accentuated.

Only one person in my immediate (DH/DS/DD), immediate-extended (siblings/parents) and extended families have green eyes, and that's DS. DS also has icy green eyes and very dark ginger (think gingery brown) hair, so it's a bit of an interesting combination of characteristics.

deste · 29/05/2020 21:47

I have green eyes.

simonthedog · 29/05/2020 21:48

I think mine are green.

DC1 was born with dark grey eyes which have changed to blue.

DC2 was born with blue eyes but then at about aged 3 slowly changed to a pale greeny colour. No idea why!

My eyes are blue and DH’s are brown. I was quite chuffed both DC inherited my eye colour genes. Grin

SpillTheTeaa · 30/05/2020 00:09

Yes I have green eyes. Dark green ring on the outside and slightly lighter green (although still a dark green) inside. I love the colour of them and have always been complimented on my eye colour and shape of them. One co worker thought I wore contacts Hmm. My DS has beautiful
Blue eyes again with darker ring on the outside. He has the same shape as my eyes as well.

lavenderlove · 30/05/2020 00:24

My eyes are kind of a mix, there's some green in there though depending on the light!

I'm not sure if it has been said, but many Yazidi women have incredibly beautiful eyes. Bright green and blue contrasted with their skin tone.
(No intention of making light of their suffering by my post. It's one of the biggest tragedies and injustices in the Middle East).

FinallySleeping · 30/05/2020 07:18

I have green eyes. DH has grey, DS has bright blue and DD has brown... I don't have a good grasp of genetics/eye colour so not sure how that's happened!

mylittlesandwich · 30/05/2020 07:23

I think eye colour and how it's inherited is so interesting. My dad has grey/blue eyes. My mum has, well she calls them hazel but they're green and brown. Me and my sister both have blue eyes but they're different blue. Mine are more like my dad whereas my sisters are like my nana on my mums side.

DHs eyes are very deep brown so I wonder what DS will have, he's only 6 months.

I do like my eyes, I'd be quite happy if DS had blue eyes like me.
