Even if it means 2 weeks of quarantine Grin
The anti -dementors are here to be reasonable and sensible about everything.

@MagdaS online voting, well that is going to go down well. Do not trust them with that system, it will all go tits up.

Weedsnseeds1 · 27/05/2020 23:09

Justasking111 yep it was a rogue Brummie, wo came down for VE Day and ran amok in the hospital, hurling virus laden Easter Eggs at staff and patients. Case closed.

DrearyWallAntler · 27/05/2020 23:38

@ThatLibraryMiss
Oh it has always been unnecessary from about early March when it was figured out it really wasn't massively virulent and air borne. The leaping into hedges was always daft.

The who advice was always 1m.

The government assumed far more widespread non compliance.

If anything the DC scandal shows that the government genuinely assumed that people would take a far more flexible view of the guidance than they did.

It maybe awkward to admit, but as more evidence emerges perhaps the UKs original advice of washing hands more and generally trying to stay apart and shielding vulnerable people may not have been too wide of the mark.

The scatter diagram of lockdown effectiveness posted on the previous thread along with Norway review is particularly interesting.

Willitneverend · 27/05/2020 23:46

@TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair - ah, I picked it up wrong, sorry. Yeah, I've seen those posts too. It's like nobody ever wants lockdown to end because of mental health, finances, seeing family after a bereavement, or having children or elderly parents. People that want it to end only have entirely spurious and self centred reasons!

@drearywallantler the explanation I heard on Radio Scotland would be that the infected person could confidentially say who theyd been in contact with and the named people would then get a phone call telling them to isolate. So it sounded like it would be difficult for the contact tracers to ask tok many questions without making it obvious who the infected person was.

One of the particularly bad dementors I'd muted now appears to have joined an MLM selling thing, and has sworn off dementoring so she can promote her new business. I'm not sure which is worse Grin

Willitneverend · 28/05/2020 00:21

Apparently the Scottish Government can't guarantee we will have school exams next year. I mean ffs, loads of other countries managed socially distant exam diets at the height of the pandemic! I guess it stops pass rates going downwards again.

heroku · 28/05/2020 07:06

I've had a few friends admit to me now that the reason they are enjoying lockdown so much is because there's no fomo anymore. They don't feel bad about being bored and stuck indoors because now everyone is stuck indoors. They don't feel sad about not having much of a social life because now no one does.

It really does say something about the level status anxiety in our society that many people feel better when the whole country is under house arrest. I wonder if it would have been the same if this had happened in the 90s or whether this is driven to a large extent by social media.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 28/05/2020 07:19

I've seen quite a lot of "the deaths leapt up to 412 yesterday. All because people couldn't do as they were told on VE day weekend (multiple angry face emojis)"
Soooooo dementors tell us we won't see the infection rate yet as time to getting to to be ill enough to need a test means they won't have been tested yet. But they've died. That's some weird ass logic there.
Try pointing out it's down to bank holiday reporting. That goes down well.
Bangs head against wall.

KnobChops · 28/05/2020 07:38

Took me ages to find this thread as it hasn’t got anti-dementors in the title.

I’ve seen a couple of threads from parents being taken off furlough and how they’ll be able to go back to work with schools closed. This is going to mushroom over the coming weeks and months. There will be quite a backlash against school closures. I’m a bit surprised how many teachers seem to think being merely vulnerable means they need to stay off work. They are literally viewing children like covid patients. Shielding is also due to finish 30th June (unless extended) which, once it ends will come as a massive shock to a lot of people who I think are hoping it lasts forever.

You think after 10 weeks of lockdown people would get the weekend reporting lag by now.
littlbrowndog · 28/05/2020 07:41

This is the day that Nicola tells us if we can sit on grass outside. 12.30

🙏🙏

The front of the Torygraph has an article suggesting the shielding list is being reduced as well. I hope this is handled well as imagine it'll be massively anxiety inducing for people who've been told they aren't allowed to put their own bins out to then to told to go back into the world
LivinLaVidaLoki · 28/05/2020 07:43

Also seen this appearing all over Facebook - sorry it's long.

^As we start to open up...
You do You, I'll do me. That's what we should be about. None of us have the same circumstances (medically high risk child/family member or a business about to go under, etc.). Let's all stay in our own lanes and keep the judgment down as we begin to reopen. No one should feel pressured either way.
Just a thought...As government are trying to figure out how to ease back into normal, please remember:

🛑 Some people don’t agree with opening...that’s okay. Be Kind.
🏡 Some people are still planning to stay home...that’s okay. Be Kind.
🦠 Some are still scared of getting the virus and a second wave happening...that’s okay. Be Kind.
💰 Some are sighing with relief to go back to work knowing they may not lose their business or their homes...that’s okay. Be Kind.
😳 Some people already lost their jobs and businesses. Be kind.
👩🏾‍⚕️Some are thankful they can finally have a surgery they have put off...that’s okay. Be Kind.
📝 Some will be able to attend interviews after weeks without a job...that’s okay. Be Kind.
😷 Some will wear masks for weeks...that’s okay. Be Kind.
💅🏻 Some people will rush out to get their hair or nails done...that’s okay. Be Kind.
❤️ The point is, everyone has different viewpoints/feelings and that’s okay. Be Kind.
We each have a different story. If you need to stay home, stay home...But Be Kind .
If you need to go out, just respect others when in public and Be Kind!

Don’t judge fellow humans because you’re not in their story. We all are in different mental states than we were months ago. So remember, Be Kind.

Please copy, paste & post(I did)^

While I agree with the message, I find it ironic it's being shared mostly by people who screaming "murderer!" If you want to go to the shops, saying anyone "flocking to the beach" should be denied nhs treatment and petitioning for schools to stay shut til its "safe".
Basically they all realise that as things open up and the sky doesn't fall in they're gonna look like right idiots so they're asking for understanding. Where was all their "#bekind" shit when they were telling people with MH problems to just suck it up. Hypocrites.

Littlebelina · 28/05/2020 07:44

Right will stop using the shiny new quote feature as much since I've seen it works Grin

LivinLaVidaLoki · 28/05/2020 07:45

@Littlebelina, I know.
Especially considering how invested they are in it.

countrygirl99 · 28/05/2020 07:45

littlbrowndog people choose to see what fits their agenda. In the early days there were just as many people were picking up the low weekend numbers and shouting about how low they were. A lot of people aren't used to interpreting data that has a "seasonal" pattern.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 28/05/2020 07:46

Everything crossed @littlbrowndog

Hospital "we have been mixing staff and patients all over the show up until now"
Liam Fox "The day trippers did it. Probably"

littlbrowndog · 28/05/2020 08:10

Well I will be flocking like a starving seagull just to sit on grass in park.

Will there be lots of opportunities to shout fuck off at the telly when she starts blah blah blah ing before she tells us the stuff we actually want to know ?

Last Thursday was a festival of shouting fuck off in our house

allyjay · 28/05/2020 08:12

Thank goodness for these threads they keep me sane in a world of madness.

Just made the mintake of venturing onto the main coronovirus board. I find it so strange just how many Mumsnetters know of someone under 40 and previously healthy who has died from it, when the stats tell us this is so very rare Confused

I'll go back to reading this little oasis of common sense now. Thanks again to everyone.

allyjay · 28/05/2020 08:13

Mistake

littlbrowndog · 28/05/2020 08:22

Turns out I have morphed into Malcom tucker. Feel comfortable in my new skin.

rookiemere · 28/05/2020 08:27

littlebrowndog not sure I will be watching it - I decided that as they announced the relaxations last week, I'd go ahead and act as if they were in force from then.

New cases went up a small number on 26th May please let her not use this as a reason not to relax - or if she doesn't I suspect despite those who think she's doing the right thing, people will quietly just start to go back to normal, no matter what she says.

MagdaS · 28/05/2020 08:34

I dread to think what the good people of Weston would think of my grannie (long dead, so no chance of being murdered by COVID), being from the Midlands and yet forrin. She loved it, went regularly but always mangled the English and called it Super Veston Mare Grin. She’d be drummed out of town now.

They mostly don’t. When you look at what people are saying it’s the six degrees of separation thing, they know someone who knows someone or have a slight connection with someone who died. I’ve noticed this before with previous big news events like terrorist attacks, people enjoy the vicarious drama of knowing someone who was involved.
Weedsnseeds1 · 28/05/2020 08:45

MagdaS they'd throw rocks at her!
