@Willow2017 that beach is gorgeous - where is it?

Sadie789 · 25/05/2020 18:57

Anyone else being demented in group chats with people that pre lockdown you considered to be likeminded friends?

I think I am going to have a friendship cull after all this.

Mascotte · 25/05/2020 18:59

I've culled already 😂

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 25/05/2020 18:59

I think I am going to have a friendship cull after all this.

I am looking at a lot of people differently. It's actually really upsetting.

justasking111 · 25/05/2020 19:01

On one group today someone was frothing about a lad doing wheelies while eating an icecream. I responded, "Respect I could never do that, but I could skate backwards" Grin

Sadie789 · 25/05/2020 19:01

@theadventuresofthewishingchair yes me too, just had to close a chat and not reply there as I was going to say something I regret. The divide is only going to deepen.

highmarkingsnowbile · 25/05/2020 19:05

Anyone else being demented in group chats with people that pre lockdown you considered to be likeminded friends?

Yes. I've had to cull some. And I knew them for years and even some from when my DD was in hospital. I've snoozed some but 2 just went full on Dementor and it's too much.

Today on a walk I stroked a dog! Yes. A lovely elderly chocolate Lab all white round his muzzle, did a little cry as he pulled on his lead to come over. I let him lick me. He is a very sweet dog.

Spudlet · 25/05/2020 19:12

Well, we broke lockdown today and went to meet FiL and have a socially distanced but totally WRONG AND MURDEROUS walk. It was nice. Was a bit sad that DS wanted to hold his grandad’s hand but couldn’t (FiL was a bit worried about it) but all in all it was a tonic, I think.

DH also popped into Waitrose to pick up some bits for FiL and got both white and wholemeal bread flour! It’s the only supermarket around here that seems to have bread flour at the moment so if you are wanting any and have a Waitrose within striking distance, it’s worth a go.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 25/05/2020 19:14

I tiptoed on to a dementor thread- they are all crackers! Do they even know what a ‘peak’ is? Let them all crack on with it.

Willow2017 · 25/05/2020 19:14

Its in Northumberland SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito near Berwick.

LilacTree11 · 25/05/2020 19:16

Hey guys

Some of you will have seen that, late on Friday night, a poster started a petition to get me banned.

It was more sinister than I think most people realised.

I obviously have screenshots of it all.

Clearly there was a group who had been PMing each other how much they hate me and the second poster who chimed in is a police officer.

The thread was reported to the Night Watch, but after it was pulled, so was the night watch report.

As well as that, the poster falsely claimed I’d been slagging off teachers and said I was “all over” the education threads. Patently untrue. Happy to admit I know nothing about children’s education and would never pretend to know.

Thanks to the posters who pointed out I was largely on the Telly threads!

I have no idea what happened here but if anyone feels like asking MN on my behalf, I’ll keep an eye on site stuff.

Posting against the government - I guess we’re in China on MN.

I obviously need to de register because it’s not safe for me to be here, or I’d ask
MN myself.

so will keep DMs open for a bit, but I’m sure this post will be leapt on and deleted in what, 20 mins?

Thank you for your support

SomewhereEast · 25/05/2020 19:18

The friendship thing is hard. I've done a LOT of snoozing on Facebook. People I know well enough to chat properly with are generally ok - even if they have different ideas to me they haven't gone into Stasi-mode. I try very hard to give people the benefit of the doubt...I know some people who actually use worst-case-scenario thinking as a coping mechanism when anxious, or who are genuinely enjoying lockdown because their normal lives are very stressful & unfulfilling. On the plus side I feel a lot closer to some other friends!

littlbrowndog · 25/05/2020 19:20

Och lilac. You are a very kind person. Just ignore the dementors.

It seems this virus has sent some people into controlling mode which they love

BogRollBOGOF · 25/05/2020 19:20

Fortunately I haven't had issues with close people. My DC's year groups haven't gone through the return to school palaver yet and hopefully it should be calmer by the time mine get the chance to go back. I've heard that y1 and nursery have been largely against going back on their Whatsapps so far, and my neighbour who has a yN is wobbling because none of his good friends are going in plus the y2 isn't yet. Apparently the tone from school was not particularly encouraging.
We've had a change of headteacher through this as she's back from maternity leave and TBH, I preferred her cover who was previously deputy there a few years back.

I'm enjoying the obligatory beauty spot post-bank holiday furore. The place where I went on Friday night when it was it's usual quiet self was gridlocked despite the car parks now being open. Pretty predicable stuff, I wouldn't go on a sunny bank holiday anyway, even if there wasn't fuck all else open to do. Lots of outraged comments about the "second spike" you know, like the Easter/ VE day ones that still haven't turned up. Hmm Gridlocking the place up is pretty dumb though.

highmarkingsnowbile · 25/05/2020 19:22

Holy shit, Lilac! I saw both those threads. Thought it was just some stupid drunk troll. I'll ask MN.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 25/05/2020 19:23

Ah @Willow2017, I thought it might be. DH's family are all up that way, Alnwick kind of area. Bit too far away for a day trip at the moment unfortunately.

LilacTree11 · 25/05/2020 19:24

high if you’re brave enough, I’d really appreciate it.

I’m thinking I’d better deregister fast because .....people are crazy.

I thought removing it from Night Watch was basically to hide what happened.

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/05/2020 19:25

Lilac I didn’t see the threads, they had been pulled before I saw them.
I’m really glad you’ve posted though, we were all worried about you!
Stay. We’ll try and figure out what’s going on.

LilacTree11 · 25/05/2020 19:25

It’s sad because there was a lot of support here

I NC a lot and the elderly parent section was helpful

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/05/2020 19:27

Are you sure it wasn’t night watch who pulled the thread? When I clicked on it it said ‘this post has been deleted as the OP is a troll’.

BogRollBOGOF · 25/05/2020 19:27

Oh @LilacTree11, you've posted nothing offensive, and that's just downright bullying on their part.

SomewhereEast · 25/05/2020 19:27

I don't buy the second peak thing at all. Back when the virus took hold in the spring society wasn't even remotely on guard against it - minimal PPE, minimal testing, vulnerable people only beginning to shield, basic obvious safeguards not implemented in care homes, HCPs at the beginning of learning curve on how best to treat the critically ill (I was reading today about how survival rates for the critically ill have steadily increased in recent months because HCPs are learning all the time). Even then deaths peaking on 8 April suggests infection rates had started to decline pre-lockdown. We may well see infections rise again somewhat, but we are so much better prepared. Depressingly I think if we see higher than average death rates over the winter, it will be because of things like delayed cancer diagnosis

AnotherEmma · 25/05/2020 19:27

Lilac please stay!

DianneWhatcock · 25/05/2020 19:28

Anti dementors hive mind I need your help in a Facebook "discussion"

Posted the link to the bbc article "how scared should I be about coronavirus" (as a lot of my friends are disproportionately scared of it)

Only for a fb dementor to post "the figures are only this low Cos of lockdown"

I don't know how to reply !! Any Help would be appreciated please Blush

AnotherEmma · 25/05/2020 19:28
