Look Drakeford and team in Wales have taken Saturday, Sunday and Monday off from briefings. Guess the allotment called. If he is not worried why should we be.

Littlebelina · 25/05/2020 14:11

Ds is 8 as well wales so will check it out. Thank you!

bluetongue · 25/05/2020 14:13

I’ve had the swab done by a nurse and it was pretty unpleasant. There’s no way you could do it properly yourself. Would rather have blood test any day!

CruCru · 25/05/2020 14:34

It’s funny, the local paper in Brighton has the headline “Crowds swarm to seafront despite pleas to stay away” with pictures of not very many people. Ordinarily there isn’t anywhere to sit on Brighton beach on a sunny bank holiday weekend, it gets so crowded.

Drivingdownthe101 · 25/05/2020 14:36

I’ve had the swab and didn’t think it was all that bad. Preferable to a smear anyway!

heroku · 25/05/2020 14:37

Yeah a friend of mine did say after having it done "I had no idea something could go that far up your nose". Ew. Still, if that's the price of freedom then kebab me up.

ExpletiveDelighted · 25/05/2020 14:47

I must admit after having to do my own I did wonder how many were coming out negative due to operator error.

Pertella · 25/05/2020 14:52

I guess that's why you have to do nose and throat.

But regardless, it would be impossible to insert the swab in the way depicted in the image. It's not even going up the nose, but horizontally through the skull!

It looks to me that the image was to show the swab going into the back of the throat but was either deliberatly or accidentally misprinted.

Orangeblossom78 · 25/05/2020 14:54

We're going to Studland bay this week as it is half term - the car parks and toilets are open (NT) going to get up early to hopefully get a space. Looks a lovely week weather wise

Orangeblossom78 · 25/05/2020 14:55

yes the pic looks wrong and they could put people off having a test if they post that, daft people

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 25/05/2020 14:58

I’ve muted all the dementors on my timeline so hadn’t seen the scary nose swab. Life is much better with 30 day mute!

Dowser · 25/05/2020 14:59

At pooley bridge
Roads were unbelievably quiet but there’s plenty of people here
Local general dealers are really missing out

The one we ate sat in front of opens 7_30 till 10-30 am
Wouldn’t see me then.
Anyway will have a walk around ullswater
Thinking of my welsh sisters

Pertella · 25/05/2020 15:02

There seems to be pockets of pragmatism and common sense forming on the covid board. Posters are starting to stand up to the dementors and their moodhoovering

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 25/05/2020 15:04

My next door neighbour is shielding due to pregnancy. Currently got extended family in the garden for a not very socially distanced picnic, and we've had a nice chat over the fence. Happy days.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 25/05/2020 15:05

The Welsh Nationalists I know are dementoring away, but most are ignoring them. I’m hoping this is the beginning of the end but hope is a cruel mistress here

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 25/05/2020 15:05

Sorry not sure that's clear - they have their own family in the garden!

AnotherEmma · 25/05/2020 15:09

There is absolutely no need to shield due to pregnancy. (Not unless you also have a serious heart condition.) I'm astonished by the number of people who think there is.

I'm pregnant and I've been reading the gov.uk and RCOG guidelines very carefully.

At one point - more at the beginning of lockdown - I saw lots of threads by pregnant women not wanting to attend their scans (because of coronavirus) and it annoyed me no end. I understand it's an anxious time but argh!

Nihiloxica · 25/05/2020 15:23

Still, if that's the price of freedom then kebab me up.

Grin

This is my new motto

DominaShantotto · 25/05/2020 15:39

Just got my anatomy notes out on the nasal cavity - it's about right it could get that far back, but that far back is the matter of a couple of cm and not the 3 feet into your brain image shown by that image.

And so fucking what? That's if you have suspected Covid to confirm or deny - so if you're at the point of needing kebabing up the nose - you're already suffering and ill. You couldn't get it in at the fencing-esque angle shown on the print, it would need to go in more at the angle shown on the printed testing sheets because your nostrils point downward - duh so a straight swab isn't going to miraculously go around a corner along the floor of your nasal cavity (the make up of which I should remember but fuck it I sat that exam weeks ago and promptly forgot that shit) to the back of your pharynx. (I have drawn far too many cross sections of the bloody nasal and oral tracts this year to remain sane...) I'd bet it's probably less awful doing a nasal one than a throat one with gag reflexes to be honest but the nose image has the zomg shock value!

After having placentas from two pregnancies manually removed (having a chat with the guy up to his elbows in your uterus is an experience - we discussed Holby City) - I'm relatively unbothered by most attempting to terrify you medical shit.

SomewhereEast · 25/05/2020 16:08

I would've been squeamish about that test ten years ago, but now I don't give a shit. I think nothing holds any terrors once you've sat there watching a midwife stitch up your vagina.

duckme · 25/05/2020 16:08

We've just been to the local nature reserve with my parents and sister and her partner. Social distancing was, loosely, maintained. The tea room was open for takeaway so we all sat and had frivolous ice creams. The toilets were closed but we watched someone pull the gate to one side to open the disabled loo.
My daughter does some cleaning for my parents for pocket money and they asked her if she wants to start house again soon. She jumped at it. My dad won't have us all round at the moment, I suspect he is more concerned about someone reporting him/us for breaking the rules.
Today has been a good day.
I hope to god tomorrow is too. I hope even more that this all ends soon.

Willow2017 · 25/05/2020 16:23

Have had a lovely time😄
Went to the beach and paddled, it was cold but fabulous made me feel alive again. I then sat on rocks and let the sea wash over my ankles. Walked barefoot on sand. It was glorious.
People out and about but loads of room. Picked up a stone i liked the look of as a momento. There was an ice cream van! But i took crisps and a sandwich so was too full before i noticed it.😭
Hit the garden centre on way back and bought plants and a new pot. Then got the shopping and only spent half of what i spent last 2 weeks😲
Pretty good day must have murdered a thousand grannies at least.

I had nasal and throat swabs (and blood) taken by a doctor during swine flu. It does go really far back! And I had swine flu. I've actually had a lot of shit over the course of my life, which has largely been quite unlucky, but Dementoring doesn't help.

Willow2017 · 25/05/2020 16:26

I mean the sea was cold the weather was warm and sunny😄

MagdaS · 25/05/2020 16:30

Yeah, I had swine flu. It was very unpleasant and was quite possibly the trigger for my premature labour, but we are both fine now.

I swabbed my son as we took part in the research testing in children which has recently taking place. It was hard to get it far back in the throat enough, but pushing to hit resistance in the nose wasn't that far back.
