Week 9 has been one of the harder weeks - my kids have generally coped quite well but we've had few tantrums and tears this week and we've resorted to chemical warfare with the cats - hormone plug ins - as they are getting stressed possibly by us being in the house all the time.

Round here though seems more vistors and family parties and BBQ are happening anyway despite what the Welsh Governmnet has to say.

Pertella · 25/05/2020 13:03

This bullshit has been posted by a few dementors on facebook. I've tried pointing out that it doesn't go that far up the nose but am being told that obviously it was dine done incorrectly Hmm

North Wales finally got round to testing the nursing homes, shock horror one home had 40 residents, lots of staff with it. The owner said he was self isolating at home. Is he buggery my friend lives next door said he is running/jogging twice a day from his house.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 25/05/2020 13:06

If they don’t put a kebab stick into your brain they’re doing it wrong! Are they trying to put people off getting tested? That won’t help prove their precious second spike!

Pleasedontdothat · 25/05/2020 13:08

Grrrr just got a text from our local hospital (big teaching hospital in London) about DD’s haematology appointment this week. I’d been so pleased and relieved when her appointment finally came through (sudden, unexplained anaemia). However the text informed me that her appointment has now been changed to a phone consultation with’a clinician who may or may not call at around the time of the appointment’. I’m wfh so really need to know what time they’re calling as it might clash with something else. Plus how is a phone appointment with me, dr and dd going to work? I really can’t see it being an adequate alternative to a face to face appointment plus dd is autistic and hates talking on the phone. They can’t see her, see how pale she is, how tired she looks - they’ll ask her how she is and she’ll say ‘fine’ grrrrrrr

trappedsincesundaymorn · 25/05/2020 13:09

I can't change mine. I can't remember my password and there's no option to reset or a password reminder....I'll shall remain Trapped forevermore.

BarkandCheese · 25/05/2020 13:11

I’ve just googled to have a look at how the nasal swab is done, and in all honesty every single image I could find does seem to suggest that the swab does go that far in. Even if that is true surely at best it’s just a bit uncomfortable, something akin to a blood test or a smear test in terms of physical discomfort I’d guess.

Pertella · 25/05/2020 13:15

No, it doesn't. I've been tested and still have the instructions

justasking111 · 25/05/2020 13:15

it does go a long way in, is uncomfortable but it is what it is for accuracy of results.

Pertella · 25/05/2020 13:17

The dementors image is anatomically impossible, it doesn't even show the swab going up the nose Grin

ExpletiveDelighted · 25/05/2020 13:17

I went to a Covid test centre but had to do my own swabbing. The throat one has to go right back to tonsils, that's unpleasant and made me gag. The nasal one said insert it till it meets some resistance so that's what I
did, it certainly wasn't that far.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 25/05/2020 13:19

Currently at my local beach with an ice cream. Bliss.
Some woman just a way from us starting complaining loudly about how the beach is too busy and we'll cause a second wave.
For the first time I lost my shit.
I shouted over that a second wave would depend on a number of us on the beach actually having covid. Or one person having it and sitting with everyone else for a while. If there are about 170k people in the country who have it how many does she think are sat here on [town] beach??!! Get a grip and if you want to stay on that high horse then you shouldn't be here either.
DH was just stunned and DS was too involved in his switch to notice....but god it felt good.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 25/05/2020 13:21

I mean, what a fucking fun sponge. Who on earth goes to the beach to complain about people going to the beach???

Pinkflipflop85 · 25/05/2020 13:25

DP just took 5 year old DS in a murderous rampage to the coop to buy frivolous treats. DS has not been to a shop for over 10 weeks. He came back so excited about his little trip and it has broken my heart that something so mundane is currently the best thing in his life Sad

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 25/05/2020 13:26

@livinlavidaloki - the dementors have taken control of our public spaces for too long. All the moaning at others for daring to be out and doing exactly what they’re doing. If they want us to spread out more the answer is to open more stuff! Someone asked me why the woods was so busy today as isn’t every day like a bank holiday. I pointed out lots of parents are working so of course they want to relax on a day off. It’s lovely when the woods are quiet but everyone has the same right to be there.

heroku · 25/05/2020 13:32

At this point I'd trade a kebab stick to the brain for an aperol spritz in a pub garden.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 25/05/2020 13:35

@heroku I feel pretty lobotomised after months of fucking drakeford anyway!

SomewhereEast · 25/05/2020 13:36

Seeing as people are mentioning quiet / busy places, Flamborough Head between Bridlington & Filey is very quiet & very pretty. It has a couple of beaches (one sandy, one more rocky but with caves & puffins) plus woodland walks

MrsWombat · 25/05/2020 13:41

We've just driven to the busy touristy end of our local beauty spot instead of walking to the quiet area. Lots of people picnicking and enjoying themselves. The refreshment kiosk and toilets were open, and we had an ice-cream. Everyone was respectful of the 2m. We will go further afield next time.

Littlebelina · 25/05/2020 13:56

I think my ds thinks the best thing about covid is that it gets him out of shops!

Just been for a bike ride at the coast, it was busy but lovely. It was difficult to leave 2 m when passing people but the risk of catching anything is so remote. Everyone was nicely distanced on the beaches and greens and we had a gorgeous coffee.

Just realised bbc bitesize and school lessons have stopped this week. How am I going to distract ds while dd naps so I can work Shock. Might be a lot of tv this week....

Comingoutontop123 · 25/05/2020 14:00

Loving how people keep saying that it's too early to see a national spike from VE day on 8th May but the tiny hospital in Weston-Super-Mare closing its A and E dept (already closed at night for the last 3 years and frequently closing in the day anyway) is a direct result of Boris 'saying you could go to the beach' (not that he did) on May 11th..

rosettesforjill · 25/05/2020 14:01

I think we'll go for a seaside walk at the weekend if it's still nice. DS is adamant that he will be swimming in the sea but apart from the obvious nan murder this would cause, I think he might be a bit disappointed with the water temperature 🥶

BarkandCheese · 25/05/2020 14:01

We try to go to the country park for a walk but everyone else had clearly had the same idea so gave up due to the car park being full. It was frustrating but I’d rather that than having to give up due to the car park being closed.

I agree that swab image looks wrong, which is why I googled it to find an image to debunk it. However all the pictures I could find looked like that, I’m not a medic and I haven’t had a swab so I have no real idea. Anyway as Joey would say it’s a moo point, it’s not invasive surgery and I’d rather have a swab done than be locked down for months on end.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 25/05/2020 14:02

How old is ds? The BBC Bitesize game ‘defenders of mathematica’ was v popular with dd. She’s 8 and has played it for days www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zd2f7nb/articles/zn2y7nb

iamapixie · 25/05/2020 14:05

I think I've seen into the dementor mind. Took DC for SD outdoor meet with a friend. Loads of other kids not socially distancing at all and I felt heartbroken for my DC being so good and missing out, partly because I'm a stickler for rules, and partly because I've always been anti-lockdown I feel I have to be really good about abiding by the rules so that I can't be criticised for selfishness. But I genuinely felt really dementory, and ended up having a moan at DP about it. And then thought 'shit, I'll be on bloody MN next saying AIBU to call the police'! Now I'm just totally depressed.
