@thegreatwave dh's dad was a miner who died 4 years ago with pneumoconiosis. MIL died 2 years later. We're actually glad not to have them to worry about, right now.

ilovecardigans · 22/05/2020 23:36

Sending much love to you @Jourdain11 💕. We have been where you are (Non-Hodgkins lymphoma) and it was Hell, but came out the other side. 22 years clear this July.

Jourdain11 · 22/05/2020 23:44

Thank you everyone... honestly, it means such a lot. Especially at a time like this when everyone has their own shit going on.

I'm staying in my shielding room (which is usually the study) but honestly, I just want to be with DH tonight, not doing stupid distancing and all the rest of it. The only thing that is holding me back from just ignoring the guidance is that if I did get sick, I'd feel guilty that it was all my own fault.

I'm in that babyish mood where I just want someone to come and say, "there, there, it will all be okay". And of course, nobody can!

Mascotte · 22/05/2020 23:46

It will be ok (())

TheGreatWave · 22/05/2020 23:54

pick yes it must be a great worry for those families of ex-miners.

It is something that is quite removed from me, that isn't where I grew up, my Dad moved away from his area, so it is something I am on the fringes of and I just see looking towards colleagues and the people I work with. Scars run deep though, and for many even if they didn't go underground they were involved in other heavy, health damaging, industry.

BogRollBOGOF · 22/05/2020 23:56

Jourdain11 Flowers and we've definitely been light on giving out unmumsnetty (socially distant) hugs in the last couple of months.

Our Deeds for the Day (in case there's any Good Omens fans lurking) were to go to a famed beauty spot and follow up with our first chippie tea in a couple of months.

There's a particular popular hill that DH and I have a long-standing tradition of going up on a Friday evening. We normally only see 2-3 clusters up there at that time (compared to heaving weekend afternoons) and figured that if it was busier than usual, that was still highly unlikely to be problematic. We parked up in a proper, free carpark with only two vehicles. There were only two groupings at the summit. The only flocks were the resident sheep of the baa-ing variety. Wink

Stopped at a chippie on the way home. Had a nice chat with the staff. There was a chap who they had to move off the steps near the queue, and his mobilty wasn't great, so one staff member pulled out a chair and put it in a better spot, then another pulled out a little table to help him.

We were saying about how the social distancing is awkward particularly when different places have their own systems, but we need to live around it and make it workable or it'll all collapse and be a waste of effort.

The chips were gorgeous. We'll remember for future reference!

A good end to a tedious week that's felt very off balance.

The thread has gone now anyway

ilovecardigans · 23/05/2020 00:39

You'll be fine @LilacTree1. And if that illiterate doylem is a teacher then I'm the Pope.
