Afternoon fellow rebels and rule breakers!

Can someone explain to me if approx 0 25% of the population (excluding care homes and hospitals etc) currently have covid, your chances of coming into contact with someone with it are fucking minuscule, so why are we still in this situation???

Good question @LivinLaVidaLoki!

Dowser · 22/05/2020 14:24

I keep looking in our town obituaries and I think I saw two deaths under age 65 and one of those was from complications from years of drug abuse and th either was in the hospice
The rest ranged from 65 to 100 and I would say the majority were 80 plus
At the last count our town had 42 deaths.
I haven’t seen an update for a few weeks.
There’s just over 90,000 people living here.
And 319 cases of Covid

Time to end the madness I think
I live in an area with its roots in heavy industries, coal, steel, ships, chemicals with all the doom mongerers around you’d think we’d be lucky to see our 40 th birthdays.
Yet in the obituaries there’s loads in their Late 70s 80s, 90s
It can’t be that bad.

savehalloween · 22/05/2020 14:25

Found you all again!

I actually wrote to my AM yesterday. I don't know if they will be able to answer any of my questions or share my concerns but I had to do something.

theThreeofWeevils · 22/05/2020 14:25

Classrooms being arranged with desks around the outside and children facing the wall

Haven't seen the thread in question but WTAF? How very cruel. How very stupid.

justasking111 · 22/05/2020 14:25

Really weird thing friend marking GCSE work which will decide on grades, she has now completed this task, has now been told where would they rate each pupil in class from the top of the class pupil to the bottom. She has dug out all their books for the year and is attempting to sort this latest request out. Why do they want this extra data, it is decades since schools did it this way.

ilovecardigans · 22/05/2020 14:27

Here's a fun quiz for you all rebels. Apparently I'm most like Ramones...

Pick a chew
Hardwick Park has been fab
Have you been there?
Don’t know Wharton park but we went to Herrington park one day, a day when the car park was meant to be open so midweek and it was bloomin closed
So I’d i did what everyone else did, parked on the grass verge and had a lovely afternoon, watching the swans sit on their nests and people feeding the geese.

Took some fatballs to my local park and the geese weren’t interested.
I was not happy 😡😡😡

Dowser · 22/05/2020 14:32

Thanks for the Quiz
Me to a T
In fact I think we are the same age

Just seen a report in the local paper that 100s of people "flocked" to the local beach at the weekend.
I did the maths. Call it 500 people as nobody seems to have counted them.
Divided by the length of the beach, each person has a 30m space either side of them and at least 400m in front of them with the tide in. If the tide was out they have 1600m in front of them.
Terrifying.

Dowser · 22/05/2020 14:35

We have a ten mile coastline/ beach area , I’d love to know how much personal space There would be, including the prom and the greens lol

justasking111 · 22/05/2020 14:36

I was laughing this morning at the council putting up road cones on verges to stop people parking the buggers just move the cones.

glotterbug · 22/05/2020 14:36

Ah I've found you! Hoping welsh ministers get a bloody move on, can't keep the kids off till September it's crazy and very unfairHmmGin

justasking111 · 22/05/2020 14:37

Something puzzles me this government fit of the vapours over the coming bank holiday, what bank holiday, every day is a bloody bank holiday, you can go out any day you want. What is the panic about?

rosettesforjill · 22/05/2020 14:39

Never have I been more happy that DS's school is part of an Evil (and now Murderous?) MAT. Their reopening plans are eminently sensible and based around the children's well-being. I wonder if the big trusts are using this as an opportunity to stick two fingers up at get some goodwill versus the unions

LilacTree1 · 22/05/2020 14:39

just if you’re a worker still going into work

If you’re working at home

If you’re home schooling children

The bank holiday weekend is different. Every day isn’t a bank holiday.

One coronavirus death in Somerset in the last 6 days. We're all doomed.

BakewellTarts · 22/05/2020 14:41

@ilovecardigans I got The Ramones too! And maybe agree with the subtext:
You're cynical and generally pessimistic about humanity, but you know how to have a good time. You live for simple pleasures, and beneath your gruff exterior, you're a bit of a softie.

In other news DD1 who had a meltdown this morning (entirely understandable) has decided it's FIAF and is not doing any home learning this afternoon. Instead she's doing some embroidery. As a result she's happier.

highmarkingsnowbile · 22/05/2020 14:42

I missed this thread! I was looking for things to be outraged and livid and fume about now the weather's gone to shit in Scotland.

savehalloween · 22/05/2020 14:43

So fucking true about men. Nobody truly expects men to pack in their jobs or plead with their bosses to get reduced hours. Nobody expects men to bake banana bread and come up with creative solutions to the boredom of children removed from society for months on end.

This is so painfully true. I'm noticing more threads popping up about going back to work and childcare issues.

I think when employers take people off of furlough and stop allowing people to work from home with a dependent, a lot of the school noise will disappear.

Which will confirm what I suspect, that many of those piping up now are not motivated by a genuine fear but rather wanting to extend the lockdown bubble they've enjoyed. Totally disregarding how many children and families may be suffering as a result.

bookworm14 · 22/05/2020 14:44

Heard from reception-age DD’s school. They are taking year 6 only for the first two weeks of June and possibly other classes after that. Apparently only eight parents per class want their kids to go back. Who the hell are all these people who have decided education is temporary and optional? I want to scream.

Drivingdownthe101 · 22/05/2020 14:47

I must be surrounded by murderers as 38 out of 44 in DD’s reception cohort have said they’re going back!

Boreasauraus · 22/05/2020 14:51

I have just heard on the radio that the Clap for carers founder has suggested an end to the weekly celebration - next week will be the 10th week and she thinks that will be a beautiful end to the series. Thank fuck for that - about time someone suggested a finish point.....
Just found something on bbc news - she said "Perhaps then we move to maybe an annual moment, because I also feel the mood slowly shifting and other opinions start to rise to the surface. I feel like this has had its moment and after that we can continue to something else." You think the mood is shifting? no shit sherlock

Pepperwand · 22/05/2020 14:53

I've just returned from a killing-spree at the garden centre with both my children and I feel bloody great. The first time the kids have been out in public rather than a walk round our local area in 9 WEEKS. I got home and my 3 year old said that it had been really fun.... being pushed around a garden centre in a pram my poor, deprived boy thinks this is the highlight of his month now. I'm just not doing this anymore..... I'm taking them out and if anyone points their finger at me I'll lick it!

savehalloween · 22/05/2020 14:53

Well the little welsh sh1t first minister is adamant he is not budging on lockdown yet, will revisit next week.

He has to do it next week. Not a chance in hell people will continue to comply when England, Scotland and Northern Ireland are all in the next phase.

I am livid about the handling of this. It's entirely about looking strong and pushing back on Westminster. Not what's best for Wales. We had something like 9 deaths yesterday.

justasking111 · 22/05/2020 14:56

Todays deaths 351

England 172 hospital setting, All settings Scotland 24, Wales 7, NI 3 = 206. So England has 45 outside hospital settings.

Yet still Scotland and Wales sit on us hard. gggrrr...
