I live in Argyll and Bute this is a huge county just north of Glasgow on west coast of scotland in the last week 1 person has died of covid and there has been 1 new positive test since testing and recording began in March there have been 136 postive tests and 59 deaths the chances of meeting someone who has tested positive is 1 in 650, if you even assume that only half the positive people are sensible and stay at home that becomes a 1 in 1300 chance of meeting them in the street, if they are asymptomatic they are not coughing ( if they are coughing they have symptoms) if they are not coughing they are not spraying droplets around but they may touch something if they haven't been washing hands so now I think the chance of meeting someone with covid and actually getting in contact with even 1 corona virus is quite low never mind a higher viral load and if you stay 2 metres away it won't make much difference whether they are infected or not

countrygirl99 · 22/05/2020 15:20

I commented to a friend that we have thousands of customer facing staff who, as key workers, have been entitled to a test if they have symptoms for a while now. We have had 2, both the first day, none since. Instead of thinking that was good news she just said that clearly the tests aren't reliable 😒

Orangeblossom78 · 22/05/2020 15:24

Had our email from the primary Yr6 back 2 days a week from 8th June. Closing for cleaning on Wed, then another group for the other 2 days.

HauntedGoatFart · 22/05/2020 15:27

Aaargh our school opening has been delayed til the 15th :(

At least it's happening.

Orangeblossom78 · 22/05/2020 15:31

Older children to shops-

I have been sending both DDs out on errands to our local store since lockdown began. Part of how they help out but has also helped build life skills and independence.

Yes exactly, glad to hear. Think I had maybe got mixed up with not taking children with adults perhaps

Oh good I can send DS1 to the co-op then. Smile the dusty virulent place it is...

BarkandCheese · 22/05/2020 15:31

On the subject of older children going out by themselves, my 12 year old just went to the postbox for me, her first trip out by herself since lockdown. Up to now I’ve been worried that if she got too close to someone they’d have a go at her. Before this madness she had plenty of freedom, her school, the park and her best friend‘s house are all within a ten minute radius of our house and she spent her time bouncing between these places.

This needs to ends, the lockdown has served its purpose and is now doing far more harm than good.

Mascotte · 22/05/2020 15:31

@Nihiloxica I'm in total agreement with your post about the loss of fundamental rights and how scarily easy it's been to do it.

Orangeblossom78 · 22/05/2020 15:32

Our email said to wait for Tue for additional details and dependant on confirmation from gov etc so still seems a bit up in the air. Just want to know what is going on. I would prefer more than 2 days but guess it is better than half days for older ones.

Orangeblossom78 · 22/05/2020 15:34

Yes I was a bit worried at someone having a go at the DCs too, or it being tricky with the one way palaver in the local shop. It's a bit well, mixed as well. and queues.

BakewellTarts · 22/05/2020 15:39

@Orangeblossom78 good job our kids are pretty immune then.

PickAChew · 22/05/2020 15:40

We used to visit Hardwick Park loads when we lived closer, @Dowser. Wharton Park is the one by the railway station in Durham. It's small and very steep with a lot of steps!

BirdieFriendReturns · 22/05/2020 15:40

The actual deaths per day in hospitals (not backdated) are much smaller. Under 30 yesterday.

www.england.nhs.uk/statistics/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2020/05/COVID-19-total-announced-deaths-22-May-2020.xlsx

Pertella · 22/05/2020 15:47

200 cases per 100,000 population.

Am I right in saying that's 0.2%?

PickAChew · 22/05/2020 15:48

And yes, dh is wft and broadly working office hours. Even if he takes half an hour it to pick something up from screw fix before it closes or go to sainsburys for the stuff I can't get from markses, he has to make up the time. Some days he's glued to his desk from 8-4, solid, with technical discussion, new starter mentoring, client meetings and so on. On a bank holiday, the whole day is his own, unless he's doing catch up work.

TheGreatWave · 22/05/2020 15:52

I like Hardwick Park, unfortunately DS (ASD) absolutely hates it for some reason, so it is pretty much off limits.

He used to scream at the door of Peacocks too, so I was never able to go in there.

LilacTree1 · 22/05/2020 16:02

Save “ I think when employers take people off of furlough and stop allowing people to work from home with a dependent, a lot of the school noise will disappear.

Which will confirm what I suspect, that many of those piping up now are not motivated by a genuine fear but rather wanting to extend the lockdown bubble they've enjoyed. Totally disregarding how many children and families may be suffering as a result.”

This. But there will be pressure on employers to have employees WFH with children.

The 45 deaths outside of hospitals, as per Sir Patrick, quite likely weren’t tested for Covid 19. So I find it very hard to take seriously.

OP posts:
DominaShantotto · 22/05/2020 16:04

The bit that pisses me off with the allowing people to WFH with kids around is that even when both partners are doing that - who does the fucking childcare burden disproportionately fall on? Who do the kids whinge to when a sibling's looked at them the wrong way?

MUUUUUUUUUUUUUMMMMMMM

It's a really really fucking feminist issue.

LilacTree1 · 22/05/2020 16:05

Pertella yes, 0.2

Of which 80% will get a mild illness.

I’ve just seen that Serbia are planning to hold the Exit music festival in August and said they think COVID will be a low risk issue by then.

I’ve never been to Serbia or the Exit festival but I love positive news re: partying and getting mad wae it Grin

heroku · 22/05/2020 16:12

Just checking in to submit an entry to most Gilead-worthy comment of the day. From my MIL during a rant about people going to the beach:

"Well maybe this virus will just kill off all the risk-takers in this country...and we'll be a much better place for it"

Confused
Mascotte · 22/05/2020 16:14

I'm off to google flights to Serbia...

LilacTree1 · 22/05/2020 16:14

heroku if someone said that to me, I’d cross them them off the list of people I bother speaking to!
