beachgoer · 21/05/2020 12:16

LilacTree1 · 21/05/2020 12:16

Matthew Wright?

How disappointing.

I suppose it pays wages at the moment.

Just had a lovely chat on WhatsApp with work friends. I had kept it pretty quiet that I wanted lockdown to end because it was exacerbating my anxiety and depression but last night read an email from senior management at my work (university) saying we’ll be encouraged to wfh through semester 1. Which would mean a return to the office in January. I just lost it.

I ended up spilling my heart out to my friends to say mental health is as important as physical and if that turns out to be the case I’m handing in my notice. They were so kind and agreed that mental health should be a consideration and they all actually hope we’ll be allowed back, even on a rotational basis, sooner rather than later. That felt good.

BlackberryViolet · 21/05/2020 12:18

Orange blossom, local rag still in full dementor mode using camera angles to make people appear closer. Count the people and there’s about 25. On a huge beach. Pictures of people sitting at either end of a bench, elderly man sitting alone on a bench, 2 people buying ice cream, a family sitting on the sea wall eating ice cream with no one else around. Three pages of this shite

Drivingdownthe101 · 21/05/2020 12:22

I think dementoring has calmed a bit down here, probably because we don’t live in a touristy area where people are apparently ‘flocking’ Grin. Still a few Facebook memes based around ‘just because the sun is shining, doesn’t mean coronavirus is over’ etc, but generally I think people round here are keen to get some freedom back.
It’s a small community with a lot of small local businesses who will really struggle if they can’t reopen soon, and no one wants to see that happen. Our village has only just started to diversify a bit and get some nice shops/restaurants etc and we don’t want to lose them!

Drivingdownthe101 · 21/05/2020 12:23

And in the two primary schools in the village, there is only a minority who are not planning to send their children back.

TheGreatWave · 21/05/2020 12:24

trapped I agree with her. I can't go out in the sun, therefore no one else should be allowed to.

Luckily my village, while pretty, is not touristy and people here are fairly relaxed ( apart from fence lady, but, on further enquiry, she's like that anyway, pandemic or no pandemic).
This is open 3 days a week. They do lovely fish and chips.

DrearyWallAntler · 21/05/2020 12:30

Apparently around 300 people FLOCKED to Perranporth beach yesterday.

It's 3 miles long and when the tide is out about a mile wide. Grin

I imagine that social distancing was not a struggle...

TheAdventuresoftheWishingChair · 21/05/2020 12:33

I know referring to other threads isn't great but there is a good one in the Coronavirus section on here today where people are being far more sensible - the OP asks if she can do something and nearly everyone is saying just do it. Grin

they were so kind and agreed that mental health should be a consideration

I'm so glad Agent. It's made me cross when people saying those breaking lockdown are selfish - no one has any idea what those out and about have been experiencing these past few weeks. Someone going out to the beach when they've been at breaking point and watching their mental health go down the pan is not selfish, it's healthy and low risk. It's not just people with the virus who matter.

beachgoer · 21/05/2020 12:33

@onotheremma, we stopped at the range in lynn for a new bucket and spade for ds as we knew those shops ar not open at sunny hunny (did see warehouse clearance was). first time ds had been in a shop for weeks!

KaronAVyrus · 21/05/2020 12:36

I live nearish Portobello beach and social media has gone insane about how busy it was yesterday. What is never reported is most people nearish there live in flats. It would do the kids a great deal of good to have done fun with their mum and dad down at the beach instead of being cooped up in a flat all day.

Springersrock · 21/05/2020 12:37

I live in a tourist area and there’s lots of tourism dementoring going on. I don’t think it’s really too much of a problem here, the only transport on and off is severely limited and expensive. No where is open and you can’t stay overnight anywhere so I can’t see people bothering to be honest. The police keep stating they’re not seeing any evidence of the mass tourism the dementors are going on about either.

There’s a dementor row going on on FB about the tip at the moment.

In the blue corner we have - going to the tip is not essential and the tip operators WILL DIE!!!!!!!

In the red corner we have - if we don’t open the tip, people will have bonfires and PEOPLE WILL DIE!!!!

AnotherEmma · 21/05/2020 12:38

@beachgoer
Thanks so much for the tips! We are in East Anglia, not by the coast - I think Hunstanton is one of the closest to us. My mum recommended Brancaster so we might give it a go! She also suggested Thornham.
We actually went to Wells which was a bit of an error tbh as the beach road was closed off so everyone had to walk the 2km to the beach and back. It didn't deter many though as it was still busy (I suppose it would have been even busier if the beach car park had been open).

beachgoer · 21/05/2020 12:38

lol

highmarkingsnowbile · 21/05/2020 12:38

Flouters and snitches were on ITV This Morning. The snitch was of course doing it out of concern. Sure.

beachgoer · 21/05/2020 12:39

are the chippys in wells?

beachgoer · 21/05/2020 12:40

open i mean

AnotherEmma · 21/05/2020 12:41

We didn't see anything open.

KaronAVyrus · 21/05/2020 12:43

How sad must your life be to be one of the snitchers? I couldn’t give a toss what my neighbours are up to.

Spudlet · 21/05/2020 12:43

Well, I’ve just spoken to a nice man about getting some work done to the house and he was quite happy to come over and give us a proper quote. It’s a local firm and I’m sure they want the business. We’re waiting to hear from someone else about another job but once we have a budget set for that, I’ll be giving the nice man a call back and getting him to come and visit. We can all make sure we stay well apart, have all the windows open and I’ll clean all the door handles and things before and after he leaves. It will be great to get some renovations moving on this house again.

SockYarn · 21/05/2020 12:46

Have been trying to get into the Scottish government's doc for 15 minutes.

Server overload.

However, she's basically announced that we can do as of next Thursday what England are doing already. Go to the tip, play golf, meet one person outside.

Whoop de doo.
