This broke my heart. A little boy from an impoverished family in South Africa has just lost his bursary to one of the best schools in the country. That would have changed his life, and his family's life totally.

I do not understand why NS is not getting pelters for the care home thing

MaxNormal · 20/05/2020 20:53

@Mascotte I might need to do likewise. Between that and pictures of Clatty Pats in the 90s...

@AgentCooper it's a complete farce. Do they seriously expect people to sit in their flats on the rare sunny days we get? Germany, whose approach the Dementors all love, never stopped people sitting in the sun.

MinnieMountain · 20/05/2020 20:54

Our governors meeting this evening was very sensible. HT is fully on board with government plans. She's had to remind a few teachers that they are key workers, so must come in but the staff are largely positive.

I know there's no room for DS(yr1) to go back. MIL said "oh, you can tell me before the letter goes out, I won't tell anyone". Had to fudge that one as she has form for telling friends my private stuff.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 20/05/2020 20:58

@Mascotte - I guess it's like everything happening behind closed doors, people won't realise the extent of the damage until the true cost of lockdown starts to be revealed. I wonder if the devolved nations will hang their heads in shame at what we've done to our most vulnerable or continue the unbearable smugness. I hope Mark Drakeford's support for a public enquiry extends to his record on safeguarding, both through not testing and shielding in care homes and leaving children with no safety net for so long.

justasking111 · 20/05/2020 21:01

Just looking at dozens of pictures in the DM, people on beaches, in parks, it all looks like fun. What I did notice though, where are the children it was pretty much young adults enjoying the day on the beach who had driven miles to park up and enjoy the day.

justasking111 · 20/05/2020 21:02

I was a bit sad because my 19 year old and his friends cannot do this yet in Wales. I suggested he accidentally met up with a friend the other day he said he would think about it. Sad

ilovecardigans · 20/05/2020 21:04

I posted the news about the orcas on our local towns page.
I’m expecting pandemonium tomorrow at least.

Oooh, @Dowser you are a little devil! 😈😁

Mascotte · 20/05/2020 21:05

It's the cult like following that gets me though

BakewellTarts · 20/05/2020 21:05

Do you all think they will stick to the social bubble thing then? I can't help but notice its been quietly not mentioned for some considerable time.

Bollss · 20/05/2020 21:05

I feel like I couldn't take ds that far for lack of toilets Sad

justasking111 · 20/05/2020 21:08

Ooh a head teacher dementor. This has made me so mad. I never had cuddly toys at school, nor gazillions of toys, the only toys were learning ones. I loved school.

"'My beautiful vibrant rooms are now sterile holding bays for the poor unfortunate children who arrive. Please don't send your children, we all want to get back to normal but at the moment this is not normal and not fair to put the children in this environment. And don't get me in about putting my staff at risk.'"

justasking111 · 20/05/2020 21:12

Someone commented that in her seaside area that the toilets are open, chippies, icecream shops today and it was very enjoyable.

Weedsnseeds1 · 20/05/2020 21:12

Lovely picnic, Bristol Water car parks were locked so ended up at a local SSSI.
In the process, I probably recklessly endangered at least half a dozen wild goats.
I am now planning where I fancy eating out tomorrow night.

I saw that HT dementor on Breakfast earlier. I think all are missing the point. Our children need their peer group. The others that understand their experience and concerns in ways that we can't. DD2 is moving onto secondary in September. We know she's worried about it but won't talk to us. My hope is that she will talk to her friends who are in the same boat.

Mascotte · 20/05/2020 21:12

I don't think they'll do bubbles, sadly

Weedsnseeds1 · 20/05/2020 21:13

I need to persuade DH to drive us across to Seaham, now. In normal circumstances, I'd just catch the bus. It won't happen, anyhow. We've still hot loads of rotten timber to rip out of the garden and dispose of, (when the queues for the tip are less than a mile long) and he's got a fence to paint, this weekend, so I can crack on and replenish my herb bed.

BakewellTarts · 20/05/2020 21:15

No I'm coming to that conculsion. My family outside of my home is three very isolated and unhappy people. I might just have to say fuck it and have them over. All are around 2 hours dtive away so hard to do flying visits we will need toilets at the very least.

ilovecardigans · 20/05/2020 21:17

Nicola is most definitely a cult @Mascotte. An annoying, wee cult...

KaronAVyrus · 20/05/2020 21:18

I wish they’d never bloody mentioned bubbles in the first place. Really got my hopes up that I could go and see my parents.

justasking111 · 20/05/2020 21:22

My friend works for a big housing association in Wales she is working from home. Very busy trying to sort out accommodation because many relationships have failed as in completely broken down so the tenants need and want to move somewhere else. Very sad but she cannot magic up housing stock.

BakewellTarts · 20/05/2020 21:23

I know it got everyone's hopes up. Human contact is the thing everyone is craving.

But I wonder if thats what will cause the whole thing to implode. I'm rule abiding (it comes with my job) but am ready to rebel. I can't be alone.

Shodan · 20/05/2020 21:29

I read the metro piece (I think it was metro, tbh I don't really check who's posting what crap) about the seaside crowds.

According to the accompanying photos (Daily Mail, apparently, which as you can understand I was totally surprised about), the beaches are only 'crowded' with young women in bikinis. Oh and one middle aged man.

You'd have thought more of the population would've gone...

Bollss · 20/05/2020 21:29

Yep. I'm rule abiding. Really rule abiding. Wouldn't park on double yellows even if I knew I wouldn't get caught rule abiding.

But I am fed up. I'm fucked off being told what I should and shouldn't be doing. I am fucked off that other people are making life changing decisions for my child and I don't get a say. At present I am thinking fuck the fucking rules and everyone who writes then.
