It's hit something when I dread the daily figures - not for the death toll, but for the fear it'll feed the internet doom monger shrieking.

SockYarn · 20/05/2020 17:10

in a month or so we will be reporting fewer than 100 deaths a day on the rolling average

You really think that's going to stop them? One death for them is too many. They want everyone locked down until the virus is BANISHED from the land by magical unicorns.

ilovecardigans · 20/05/2020 17:15

Ahh shite. Just checked online and the brilliant (mostly outdoors) food and beer festival held in the town every September has been cancelled.

I kind of expected it would be, but still gutted.

Weedsnseeds1 · 20/05/2020 17:20

Just seen Super drug are selling antibody testing kits.
That could be useful for opening up work places for some professions.

iamapixie · 20/05/2020 17:30

Ah the daily death toll - next to it, for the dementors' delectation or information, they should have the daily death tolls, all c. 1600 of them, from all other things, though perhaps they could put the commonest causes of death in a separate column too, and as a weekend extra, they could maybe put the TB and malaria death toll for a bit of added fun.
Would the dementors like that (because they are very gleeful about death) or would they hate it (because it's not the right type of death)?

Mascotte · 20/05/2020 17:31

I've certainly been told I'm ridiculous to quote malaria death numbers 😂

KaronAVyrus · 20/05/2020 17:35

They dementors will never stop now as they have found their true calling in life. They will want a full inquest as to why we didn’t have an extreme lockdown from January this year.

GeraltOfRivia · 20/05/2020 17:38

Gah. @ilovecardigans. We went north to Druridge bay today instead of south. Bugger

ilovecardigans · 20/05/2020 17:41

Druridge Bay's lovely though @GeraltOfRivia. You couldn't have had better weather for it!

DrearyWallAntler · 20/05/2020 17:45

Oh it wont stop them. But the ranting will get more and more crazy.

Dowser · 20/05/2020 17:46

Well the worms are out of the can and they aren’t going back👍

Fabulous day. Had lunch in the garden. Daughter and granddaughter had been to the beach and had a swim then called in for a coffEE.
My grandson came down to wash car.
Been absolutely fucking marvellous.
When I dropped grandson off, some of his neighbours ( about 20 , mam’s, dads and kids) were all in the sunshine outside.

It’s been the same all around the country. Long may this glorious weather continue.

I think we're probably about to move to the level of restrictions England has at the moment. I'll be delighted if we get a timetable, that would be something.

ilovecardigans · 20/05/2020 17:48

Husband's fishing buddy (in Scotland) just been on the phone. He and another guy travelled across the border in other guy's car to fish in England. He's now worried they might have been spotted and what the consequences would be. Husband told him not to worry, but did delight in reminding him that he voted SNP and Nicola would smack his bum if SHE found out!

ilovecardigans · 20/05/2020 17:49

I do hope so @Willitneverend

missfliss · 20/05/2020 17:50

Just joining this one - these threads keep me sane

Dowser · 20/05/2020 17:51

Ooh I might drive to our harbour pier to see if I can see any orcas.
My god I’d be made up if I could.
Not that far from seaham

Mascotte · 20/05/2020 17:56

Has there been news, @Willitneverend?

highmarkingsnowbile · 20/05/2020 17:57

I went out today without a mask. Probably killed a dozen grannies but unfortunately didn't kill any midgies, which were out in clouds (didn't see any grannies, saw no one).

Willitneverend · 20/05/2020 17:58

@ilovecardigans people have been up poaching in our local reservoir. I think it's unlikely he'll get into bother if he wasnt caught at the time.

Have English secondaries gone back yet?

Willitneverend · 20/05/2020 17:59

@Mascotte not until tomorrow, we'll know then. Not sure if it's part of the normal lunchtime briefing or a separate one.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 20/05/2020 18:01

I’m scared to hope in wales, but fingers crossed

Although then we can look forward to lots of confusion why people travel to nice places in the rare gorgeous weather when schools are shut, shops closed or discouraging browsing and lots of people furloughed when we’ve all been going stir crazy for months. It’s a mystery!

TheGreatWave · 20/05/2020 18:08

will it secondary schools are not back yet. Yr 10's may get some time in school but it is highly unlikely (read: not at all) that yrs 7-9 will be back before September.

I wish you luck @Dowser. If you do see any, please report back!

It's hit something when I dread the daily figures - not for the death toll, but for the fear it'll feed the internet doom monger shrieking.

Thankfully the number has dropped - 364 today compared to 494 reported last weds and 639 the weds before that.

Late reporting fluctuations aside, the rate is on a steady downward trajectory

GeraltOfRivia · 20/05/2020 18:17

It's done me the world of good @ilovecardigans. For the first time in a fortnight I don't feel like crying. Came home and the eldest (8) decided she wanted to cook and made roast dinner with minimal
Intervention. This day has restored me for a little bit.
