Sorry, 363 today!

Dowser · 20/05/2020 18:19

At our big shopping park, aldi, Lidl, range, home bargains and more
Can’t see one mask.
I’m going to suggest to dh I drive to see the orcas.

My beautiful ( soul) grandson has said if there’s no uni in sept 2021, he’s having a gap year.
He’s going to try to get some money together. I could weep for him. There’s no money in his family and he’s worked so hard and is really clever..he must have his chance
He’s 17 in two weeks and I’ll let you into a little secret if you promise not to tell
He’s getting a £1000 worth of Driving lessons, theory Test, practical test And licence.

I’ve spoken to the chap I’ve chosen as his instructor today, so fingers crossed he can start at the end of June

I’m so excited.
You’d think it was me.
At £23 a lesson. It won’t go far, so he’d better be a quick learner.
My lessons were £1-50

This is a normal Wednesday early evening up here.

Come on Scotland..and wales..let your people out😡

DianneWhatcock · 20/05/2020 18:25

@Dowser that is absolutely lovely, your grandson is very lucky

DominaShantotto · 20/05/2020 18:26

OK - I need a project to break the monotony up.

Digitizing all my phonetics notes from last academic year should kill me.

Waleshasgonecompletelycrazy · 20/05/2020 18:26

@Dowser thank you. I want to break free

Hope you get to see some orcas. Whale watching is definitely in my list of things I’d love to do. I’ve never seen one!

We’re going to have a fantastic trip when we can!

BogRollBOGOF · 20/05/2020 18:26

There's been no mention of ys 2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 8 or 9. Well, the other primary years may hopefully get some time in before July, but it's vague and will probably need change to the stated conditions first as you can't have bubbles of 15 and full time schooling together with staffing and classroom accommodation. And we've seen the furore over yR, 1 and 6 so far... Grin

Secondary is a nightmare to timetable anyway. Social distancing and bubbles just aren't practical in the vast majority of secondaries. Newer school buildings have often cut classroom space so most rooms are used by multiple staff.

I hope restrictions on children playing together ease up over the summer, especially for year groups that don't make it back.

I had a very theraputic 10 mile run this morning. Plenty of singing. I miss singing. DS1's sensory issues and my singing are not compatible and I miss Ken Bruce as I'm trying to do schooling around that time with irritating bitesize videos crashing over Popmaster!

DominaShantotto · 20/05/2020 18:30

I can't see the other infant years making it back with how the staffing is in our school and space considerations. Thank goodness I got my kids classified as vulnerable as they're not coping well at all - should mean if the school bullying manages to get June 1st off the agenda that they can still go back. Not for education - but just for interaction.

DD1, whose behaviour requires a lot of management, is normally beautifully behaved for my mum but she's had the outbursts, lashing out and door slamming normally reserved for me alone.

BarkandCheese · 20/05/2020 18:31

Dowser that’s lovely, hopefully he’ll pick it quickly. I think it’s easier to learn when you’re young because you’re more used to the process of learning and more adaptable.

Mascotte · 20/05/2020 18:33

Thanks @Willitneverend I can't face the actual news, so cheers for the update. Fingers crossed..

I'm resigned to no school. But really hoping my child can meet a friend to hang out (NOT play 😃)

MaxNormal · 20/05/2020 18:34

@Dowser bless you that's lovely. Thank you for helping him have the chance he clearly deserves. It's not fair for young people like him at all, what's happening.

TeacupDrama · 20/05/2020 18:34

I'm in Scotland

today I met a friend outside her house and chatted for anhour about 1 metre apart along came someone else we knew with his dog he stopped to chat for about 15 minutes so 3 of us were talking he's a bit deaf so we were closer than 2 metres, one of his daughters is a paramedic ambulance staff hasn't seen a covid case for 3 weeks

then I went to lidl, then Asda got DD new underwear and some more food, then to M&S foodhall for a few treats before stopping at farmfoods for big tub of icecream and crisps for DH
noticed icecream shop open for takeaway will take DD after she has done lessons tomorrow

I am half dreading and half looking forward to hearing whether NS is going to allow she more freedom or just a tiny tiny bit

DominaShantotto · 20/05/2020 18:35

Apparently people are driving from Essex to Skegness. I smell something - probably the poo in the rock pool as the bogs are shut.

NUFC69 · 20/05/2020 18:37

Cardigan, we went to Newbiggin yesterday and then on to Cambois, the car parks seem to be shut everywhere, but people are just parking on the road. There was hardly anyone there, apart from one woman paddling. Oddly enough the Council has opened up Bolam Lakes car parks, though. My DH cycled past this morning and he said it was very busy (no toilets, though).

My youngest granddaughter has just made a Things to Look forward to jar as part of her school work - she wrote "hugging grandma and grandad". I cried.

Drivingdownthe101 · 20/05/2020 18:39

Bloody hell, Skegness is my nearest seaside and I wouldn’t drive there if someone paid me. It’s a dive!

DominaShantotto · 20/05/2020 18:43

Think you're near me Driving - I've lived round here about 15 years and never once had the urge to go to Skeggy.

SummerHouse · 20/05/2020 18:51

Driving from Essex to Skeg to poo on the beach. It's what holiday dreams are made of.

RunningNinja79 · 20/05/2020 18:53

Just checking in. Lovely weather today. Shame I had to work so couldnt do anything apart from sit in the garden for an hour after. I know I could go for a walk now, but I think I'm going to take the lazy option.

Just seen two paragliders near our house. That was lovely to see.

There's still quite a few running events still planned for later this year. The postponed marathons (Liverpool, Manchester and London to name a few), Great North Run in September. Honestly I think they'll be cancelled. Over 40 thousand people running from Newcastle to South Shields plus the hundreds of volunteers and the tens of thousands of people in the crown cheering everyone on. Can't see it unfortunately. Apart from holidays and christmas races are the things I look forward to most.

I think the cases and deaths will carry on going down over the next few days. Just hope that we can start to move on with things soon.

ilovecardigans · 20/05/2020 18:53

That's great to hear @GeraltOfRivia. The weather is meant to be good for quite a few days, so I hope you get some more trips out.

Ahh @NUFC69. I hope you will be getting your hugs very soon. 💕

highmarkingsnowbile · 20/05/2020 18:53

We drove from W. Scotland to Skeggy. But for a whole week. We went to Butlins (and played bingo and went to Maccie D's like the MN chavs we are Grin).

BogRollBOGOF · 20/05/2020 18:54

I've been once and that was plenty Grin
I have been to Mablethorpe which is better.

But for the amount of effort it takes to get to a beach, I'd rather head west to North Wales for not much more driving.

missfliss · 20/05/2020 18:54

I've broken cover on Facebook

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 20/05/2020 18:56

My head (not a dementor in the slightest) thinks the pressure on the government will make them cancel the schools until September except for the desperate and key workers. They want some back to test out ideas. Gah.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 20/05/2020 18:57

Arghh have had to mute the class WhatsApp group; there's no full dementoring yet but lots of hand wringing and melodramatic 'I don't know what to do' and I'm having to sit on my hands to avoid being obnoxious by posting facts & figures.

RunningNinja79 · 20/05/2020 18:57

Its the Skegness Butlins that we go to. This would have been our 5th year in a row. We always take the bus to Skeggy for the day. We walk up where that roundabout is near the boating lake down to the front. Have a potter on the pier then we get the bus back. Its better than Ingoldmells. All there is there (that I know of) is the market.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 20/05/2020 18:57

By ‘they’ I mean my Head. Didn’t want to use pronouns but look how bloody ridiculous that looks (off topic)
