BlueBooby · 18/05/2020 00:33

Thanks everyone who answered! Yes flashdance is the one I was thinking of. Gives me the Heebie jeebies!

AbsentmindedWoman · 18/05/2020 00:37

@Sparklingbrook is that from St Elmo's Fire? Watched that last week, looks familiar!

strugglingwithdeciding · 18/05/2020 00:39

I think it's one of those films where you had to be a certain age when it came out . Easy to watch , good music and life was very different when this came out , no internet and devices etc

franfine · 18/05/2020 00:46

@Iamthewombat well it's a pretty famous line. Just because you don't like the film doesn't mean you have to be so bloody nasty.

Sparklingbrook · 18/05/2020 00:54

Yes @AbsentmindedWoman, my second favourite film, but don't dissect it because all the characters are awful. Grin

Sparklingbrook · 18/05/2020 00:56

@GlummyMcGlummerson thank you for reminding me about Keith and Paddy. So funny, and the head bobbing is hilarious. Thought Paddy was quite attractive. Blush

HalfOfWhoIUsedToBe · 18/05/2020 01:01

I usually end up watching Dirty Dancing every year or so. It always cheers me up, the music and the beautiful Patrick Swayze.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 18/05/2020 01:03

@Sparklingbrook the bit were they parody the scene before Johnny and Baby have sex, and they're knocking glasses over in his grotty apartment is something that is never not funny Grin

Sparklingbrook · 18/05/2020 01:07

It was perfect and very funny @GlummyMcGlummerson, that's cheered me right up. Grin When Paddy was swigging out of the bottle..Grin Grin

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 18/05/2020 01:49

I can't stand it either. It's far too over rated.

Wewearpinkonwednesdays · 18/05/2020 01:52

YANBU I absolutely hate it and always have. Never understood what the bug deal was.

Bluesheep8 · 18/05/2020 06:48

I think it's dreadful. And really really creepy. I recalled it being really good at the time and persuaded DP to watch it with me. I cringed all the way through and couldn't believe 15 year old me ever rated it. Sorry but it's absolutely shit.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 18/05/2020 06:55

@policeandthieves

Wasn't the body double in Flashdance actually a bloke?

yes-and once you see it you cannot unseen it-its so blatant!!

mossiemagnet · 18/05/2020 07:04

@Amortentia exactly what you said 100%
it has also bothered me, watching as an adult, that the age difference is ...well, bad.

vampirethriller · 18/05/2020 07:50

I don't like it. The Keith and Paddy version is great though.

Iamthewombat · 18/05/2020 08:09

well it's a pretty famous line. Just because you don't like the film doesn't mean you have to be so bloody nasty

Oh grow up. Are you like this every time somebody disagrees with one of your pronouncements about what you consider to be the the best thing of the century?

My opinion of the film is irrelevant. Even if I liked it I’d find it funny that somebody considered “nobody puts baby in a corner” to be the definitive piece of dialogue defining 20th century films.

MaybeDoctor · 18/05/2020 08:11

As a teen I thought it was great and quite sexy, though I somehow missed the beginning (before the abortion) so it took me a while to properly understand the whole hotel-guests-staff-summer camp setup. It mystified me why they all lived in cabins!

Watching it recently as an adult I feel new sympathy for the father who has worked hard all year and is just trying to have a nice holiday, that he has probably paid a lot of money for, rather than find himself embroiled in a sociological project to broaden his horizons and change his views. Grin

However, there are some scenes that are pure genius. The scene where it is raining and the family are cooped up indoors perfectly sums up how family holidays can feel as a teen; that scene would drive anyone to the cabin of the nearest camp Lothario!

It is brilliant, especially the way he manages to look so passionately at a lampshade...

Breathmiller · 18/05/2020 08:36

There is another thread running asking if anyone has a deep and dark secret that would ruin you if it ever came out.

Maybe this is mine.. but I am of exactly the right age but have never seen Dirty Dancing.

Horsemad · 18/05/2020 08:44

Hahahaha, the FB parody is brilliant! 😂😂

acatcalledjohn · 18/05/2020 09:33

The laughing lamp is brilliant Grin

melodien · 18/05/2020 09:47

Hated it as a teenager, hate it now.

x2boys · 18/05/2020 09:54
