I think I finished the last thread by accident...

Orange “ No-one's fault really but yes it can impact siblings a lot”

I do think it’s someone’s fault. I don’t think anyone should have to shield because of another household member. Be careful, surely, but a teenager who hasn’t been out for more than 8 weeks? This being MN, the family in question began shielding before lockdown.

One sure result, if that teen survives, they won’t want a family relationship anymore.

Clemmieandareallybigbunfight · 11/05/2020 21:40

One of my colleagues has had a total breakdown. At least two others are looking very shaky. And at the end of last week another colleague lost a family member to suicide. Covid is implicated due the stress it put on them, they couldn't see a future. That makes me so angry. The fear that people are celebrating is killing people.

LilacTree1 · 11/05/2020 21:41

Tbh the only Krispy Kreme I buy is, I think, Chocolate Dreamcake? Back in the days when I had a job, there was a Tesco nearby.

LilacTree1 · 11/05/2020 21:42

Clemmie “ The fear that people are celebrating is killing people.”

That was nearly me last week. I got though by thinking, well, I can always do it tomorrow.

Bollss · 11/05/2020 21:42

Found you all!

School dementors everywhere. Sick of seeing "I won't have my children treated like Guinea pigs" and teachers and now actually a couple of nursery workers complaining about the guidelines.

Well I read the guidelines and I don't personally see the problem.

If you actively choose to work with children of course you will have to go near them ffs.

And then it's " would you send 6 hours with 15 kids and not worry"

Well based on the evidence tbh yes I would.

Pinkflipflop85 · 11/05/2020 21:46

I've finally tracked you all down again!

rosettesforjill · 11/05/2020 21:47

Our school WhatsApp is 50/50 guinea pig moaners and people who are fully on board with sending the children back.

I have been surprised and proud at how well my five year old is managing to keep sane (as much as a five year old is sane at the best of times) but he definitely needs the structure of school. My attempts at home learning have been pretty woeful 😬 DH is much better and would be an awesome SAHD, but in the most old fashioned of ways, his job pays the bills...

heroku · 11/05/2020 21:48

Hang in there @LilacTree1. As they say - when you're going through hell, keep going. There is light at the end of this tunnel and it might even come sooner than we all think (fingers crossed).

RunningNinja79 · 11/05/2020 21:48

Oh that was it. I knew there was something else to say (isn't there always Grin )

Teachers complaining about schools opening up. I dont remember a single nurse or doctor complaining about having to cure those who have or at least are more likely to have Covid. I only remember the odd supermarket worker being concerned. But I dont remember seeing ANYTHING saying shops shouldn't be open.

rosettesforjill · 11/05/2020 21:48

Also. I may be a reckless risk taker and I wouldn't actually be that worried about the children social distancing at school...

Nighttimefreedom · 11/05/2020 21:49

@Mascotte your 12 year old sounds very similar to mine.
We have a large playing field near our house and took a cricket and ball up there the last few days. Now my bowling is shit, but the smile on his face was amazing.
It was lush, but still bittersweet because he should be playing with his mates not his mum and 7 year old sister.

GroEggAndHam · 11/05/2020 21:51

Can I join your gang? Pretty please?
Is there an initiation? I want to be with the normal people.

LilacTree1 · 11/05/2020 21:53

Gro because we’re normal, no initiation

But if you want to be my friend, a Chocolate Dreamcake Krispy Kreme would help 😂

Mascotte · 11/05/2020 21:56

@Nighttimefreedom it's so sad.

heroku · 11/05/2020 21:57

@GroEggAndHam you're welcome to pick a patronus. We've had some great picks so far including karate tiger, stoic capybara and chicken in a tiny crash helmet.

TheGreatWave · 11/05/2020 21:58

I thought getting a helmet on a chicken was the initiation? Grin

TheGreatWave · 11/05/2020 21:58

x-posted a little there.

Orangeblossom78 · 11/05/2020 21:59

Yes I agree Lilac somewhat different this scenario than having a sibling with cancer and being affected by that. I mean DH is meant to 'shield' but we'd never keep the children in due to that

GroEggAndHam · 11/05/2020 21:59

I'll add them to my shopping list (DH does the food shop).
It could do with having some actual food on the list anyway, not just a washing up bowl and more wine.

The reports on here about children's MH are so very sad and unfortunately not a surprise (disclaimer: MH Nurse). CAMHS are going to have their work cut out Sad

LilacTree1 · 11/05/2020 21:59

No one liked my patronus

Orangeblossom78 · 11/05/2020 21:59

Mine is a cockatiel

Bollss · 11/05/2020 22:02

It's really getting me down actually reading what teachers are saying.

Our nursery have been carrying on as normal with the key worker kids (I know because they have a FB page) and everything seems fine.

But teachers and nursery workers are posting how damaging it is for kids how little kids don't need to be in education, that they're lambs to the slaughter and that they'll end up another statistic and how little must we think of teachers.

Sad

Yeah, thanks for that. What are we expected to do? People have to work.

And none of that takes into account the very very small risk for healthy adults and kids. I just don't get it.

Fucking fed up.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/05/2020 22:02

Yes! Found the new thread.

Drivingdownthe101 · 11/05/2020 22:04

Found you!

@LilacTree1 this will pass
