I think I finished the last thread by accident...

@DrearyWallAntler people just don't want to use their common sense. They're delighted at the thought of the government cocking up so they're wailing that the rules don't make sense to shift the blame when actually they're pretty bloody clear. If your workplace is open and you can't work from home, go to work. And from tomorrow, you can sit in the park.

Shodan · 12/05/2020 12:19

Whatever one's opinions about Sunday's speech are- can we at least agree that it as nice to see that Boris seemed to have brushed his hair for once? Grin

I am feeling decidedly more chipper now- a friend came to borrow my jet wash thingy and brought with her an Easter Egg that she's been saving for me.

AND we arranged to go for a walk on Saturday.

Chocolate and company. I'm happy Smile

rosettesforjill · 12/05/2020 12:26

Re running. I run (slowly) and had been doing for many years pre Covid. Since social distancing, I have got myself so angry about social media posts about "selfish" runners BREATHING everywhere and NOT GETTING OUT OF THE WAY.

Seriously. Every time I have been out I have had to get off the very wide path out of courtesy to walkers strolling five abreast. I have run in the middle of the road so someone doesn't have to make a quick stop in a footpath off the pavement. But it's EVIL SELFISH RUNNERS and their PANTING that is the issue 🙄

I always think of these guys

Aw, thankyou, all - you're very kind. I'm sitting here smiling with tears pouring down my cheeks (told DH it's the cold wind, although I don't think he believes me - he's very tolerant, but he must get sick of my whinging). I'll have this bit of the sofa, please - if anybody wants a bit of home-made shortbread I'll trade it for a mini Twister, but I warn you, my aim is terrible.

I was just going to warn you all that I am single-handedly going to be responsible for a second peak in December. I've been making some little cross-stitch things to go in Christmas cards, and when I thread the needle I LICK THE THREAD. They're going to be sitting in the envelopes like little time bombs...

Bollss · 12/05/2020 12:37

Seen and commented on my first thread about nursery workers.

A nursery worker doesn't see how they can implement effective infection control.

Kill me now.

What do they do the rest of the time pray tell when the likes of noro and Scarlett fever are lurking?

Luckily the staff at our nursery are hot on stuff like this and Ds hasn't had s single illness since starting there.

Thanks for the comments re: weather forecast, they have cheered me up.

@BogRollBOGOF see, I've done this sort of thing a lot too - running twice around a play park so I didnt get too close to an infirm person who I'd otherwise have run past on a narrow bridge and that kind of thing. Often I get no acknowledgement.

I do try hard but I do object to running directly across someone's path while shes walking towards me screeching and waving her arms around, when she could just make a marginal change in direction for a few seconds.

Some of the running FB groups I'm on had a lot of dementoring from across the world a few weeks ago about breathing on people because of a non peer reviewed study, that all seems to have calmed down now though. I'm not actually aware of any transmission by someone who has run past someone else.

DominaShantotto · 12/05/2020 12:43

You can work out how shit the briefing or statement is going to be by Boris's hair. He'd brushed it on Sunday so I knew we were going to be getting fucked - how high it goes is linked to how good the news is. He brushes it down = seriously bad news.

pollyhemlock · 12/05/2020 12:49

@DrearyWallAntler ah, Night Watch I think? My favourite Terry P. When things are grim there’s always a Pratchett quote to cheer one up

TeacupDrama · 12/05/2020 12:53

well when schools go back they need to start teaching maths properly so pupils can work out percentage risks and pick up on fake news false statisitcs quickly maybe also critical thinking needs a boost in the cirriculum

on average over 2200 young people aged 1-20 ( i'm leaving out babies that die before 1st birthday) die each year in the UK on average that is 5.5 per day, the 2 major causes of death are accidents mainly car and self harm, at no point in this epidemic has even 1 person under 20 died per day of covid never mind 5-6.

no one thinks you are being an irresponsible foolish parent for allowing your child to do a car journey despite the fact that the risk of your child dying in a car accident this year is many times greater than of covid so why is it irresponsible to send them to school which is much safer than a car?

life for children even in the western world with modern medicine health and safety etc is still not 100% safe never was, never can be

we and our children have to learn to live with covid, only one disease ever ( small pox) has been eradicated

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 12/05/2020 12:55

Always defer to Pratchett, Dreary. It's a good way through life.

@Zoidbergonthehalfshell I'd like to hear your light-hearted thingy too!

justasking111 · 12/05/2020 12:57

Love Terry Pratchett. In Wales Drakeford has decided we are all as thick as porridge, he does not need tests, just keep us locked up until it all goes away. We have a new neighbour nice enough woman head of radiography for our health board. Gawd on her days off she starts drinking at lunch time in this naice weather, in bed by 8pm she boasts, (really (grin) she is not the brightest button in the box but does speak the mother tongue. Our covid cases and deaths are very low here she said, but sadly we get lumped in with the south east of Wales who have suffered greatly.

justasking111 · 12/05/2020 13:00

Re: Boris hair I have an image of Carrie grabbing Boris by the shirt tails, yelling oiy while waving a comb and running it through his hair before he enters the press room Grin

DrearyWallAntler · 12/05/2020 13:05

[nods]

Found my people.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 12/05/2020 13:06

Ffs they are readily available, look em up yourself you lazy cow, I ain't your damned secretary.

Cattermole · 12/05/2020 13:10

Oh fuck no @LivinLaVidaLoki don't show the buggers stats!!!! DH is a statistician (got a Masters and everthing, natch) but oh no, he doesn't know what he's talking about, when he directs dementors to actual statistical and scientific research he's just being argumentative.
You know what they say.... you can cure pork but you can't cure stupid.

RumbaswithPumbaas · 12/05/2020 13:10

Polio?
I’ve been reading wolf hall (for light relief Hmm) but people keep dying of ‘sweating sickness’... the household then have to tie straw to the door and self isolate.

apparently this was as big a deal as bubonic plague and we still don’t know what it was, where it came from or where it went.

BlackberryViolet · 12/05/2020 13:11

Zapped my Twitter account this morning. So sick of seeing people whining that “ they don’t understand”. Both BILs have gone full dementor on Facebook. They can both fuck off. I can’t take them seriously when one fucked off on a beach holiday, first holiday was cancelled to Covid so he scrabbled around and found one which flew next day. He then spent 2 weeks lounging on a beach in some far flung place while raging on Facebook about fuckwits leaving the house and queuing outside the chippy. The other one fucked off to self isolate in a remote cottage in Scotland and was shamed into coming back. What a pair of hypocrites. I think Facebook can join Twitter in the bin. I’ve just had a mass rant at dh that his brothers are idiots. Apparently he’s always known and can’t see why I’m surprisedGrin

This weekend I fully intend to get my murder rate up by packing a picnic and taking us all for a nice long walk. Both DDs need it, the dog needs it and I need it.

Love the Pratchett by way, could a swamp dragon be my patronus?

thesuninsagittarius · 12/05/2020 13:14

Can I join you? Had a very low day yesterday and my medication is making me feel sleepy and weak all the time. I have stopped going for walks. My town is not a very nice area and they lock the park at 5. So a couple of times I have plodded around the streets (there's nowhere to walk to) but I didn't feel very safe. Cars full of East European men screeching too fast around the streets and shouting at any women on their own. Police vans driving past very slowly giving you suspicious looks. I apologise if that comes across as racist, it's really not meant to be. It's a fact, it's what is actually happening. I have found doing food shopping so stressful that I get home and cry. That's not meant to sound melodramatic, I apologise again. Last week I had a horrible experience with a dementor who screamed at me because I didn't stand two meters behind her waiting patiently while she rummaged through a freezer. I got called a moron and it really upset me. I don't think my mental health will survive much more of this. Why are people so horrible? My friend says it's because they are scared. We are all scared but most of us manage not to behave like arseholes.

NewYorkIvy · 12/05/2020 13:15

There were a lot of "the government is sacrificing the working classes, furlough payment is being reduced to force you back into work because Boris doesn't care if you die" dementors on Facebook this morning. They have all gone very quiet.

Blobby10 · 12/05/2020 13:16

I luffs you lot!!! 🤩🤩🤩 Are there any fellow cyclists on here? The number of people who have literally jumped into a hedge as I cycle past over the last few weeks has been ridiculous! As if I'm going to give you The Plague passing you at 15-20mph!! And the number of people ambling down the middle of a road who totally ignore my very polite bell (single ding!) warning them that I'm there? Idiocy abounds!!
