Do you have any landmarks you look out for so you know you are near home?

As kids when the power satiation’s and the pit came into view we always knew we were nearly home. Now it’s when we can see the ‘golf ball’, which is a radar station but from a distance looks like a giant golf ball, you can see it from miles away.

Yep, I travel a lot for work. There is a little copse of trees on the Devon/Cornwall border commonly known as the "nearly home trees". Trouble is I've got another 70 miles to do before I'm home!! 😩

👋 at all the people around Emley

Port1aCastis · 10/05/2020 16:50

Ah Phil I think you may be near me as I'm about 70miles off the bridge

TrashPanda · 10/05/2020 16:54

My childhood home it used to be the power station towers but the last of those was demolished earlier this year. Heading back to where we now live it is the electricity windmills on the windy road.

PhilCornwall1 · 10/05/2020 16:55

@Port1aCastis sunny or I guess at the moment a grey looking Falmouth.

Yankathebear · 10/05/2020 16:56

The nearly home trees.

Hello fellow kernow dwellers

PhilCornwall1 · 10/05/2020 17:00

@Yankathebear hello there!! 👋

TheVanguardSix · 10/05/2020 17:02

The Glaxo Smith Kline building next to the M4 followed by the blue onion dome of Russian church.

PaquitaVariation · 10/05/2020 17:03

The Cleveland hills (in childhood years this used to be really close to home) and then the Land of the Prince Bishops signs. Otherwise it’s just endless motorway.

TheVanguardSix · 10/05/2020 17:03

phil what a glorious copse (for some reason, copse is one of my favourite words in the English language. Probably because it means something so beautiful). I just love the sight of a group of trees all snuggled up together on a hilltop.

mencken · 10/05/2020 17:04

on the train (ah, those were the days...) it is passing the Wrekin which means that part of the journey is nearly over. And then the Welsh hills on the final bit by road.

Port1aCastis · 10/05/2020 17:07

Ah Phil yes not too far from Falmouth Im in Porthleven so a proper Lizard Smile

mynellie · 10/05/2020 17:10

Penshaw monument nearly home once we spot that

muckandnettles · 10/05/2020 17:11

@OneUsernameOnly yay, the lift tower - must be the same town. It used to be regarded as a terrible eyesore, but these days it's the sign of home and I'm very fond of it!

PhilCornwall1 · 10/05/2020 17:12

@TheVanguardSix Apart from the coming home bit, it's lovely to see. When we've chatted to a few visitors down here in the summer, most always mention it.

Geekster1963 · 10/05/2020 17:13

Another one for me was when we went over a bridge over the river Aire. Also it was often raining on one side of the river but not the other.

I was just going to write the same thing, I'm down near Penzance so easily another 70 miles to go. It feels good to be back in the county though.

justasking111 · 10/05/2020 17:31

Snowdonia range of mountains seen from top of A55 hill.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 10/05/2020 17:33

Another one for Emley Moor Mast. I'm only 5 minutes from there

HavenDilemma · 10/05/2020 17:33

Menwith Hill US Intelligence Base. They have huge satellite domes that look like golf balls. That's just up the road from me.

Scruffyoak · 10/05/2020 17:34

'Give peas a chance'

Or Bury st Edmunds sugar factory

Connie222 · 10/05/2020 17:36

Was always the lucozade sign in Brentford on the M4.

Then we moved far away Sad

Nothing in this shithole.

Senga67 · 10/05/2020 17:36

I pass the Kelpies on the A9 everyday. Live in Falkirk. Work in Stirling.^

Port1aCastis · 10/05/2020 17:41

Hi Yankathebear nice to see others from Kernow on here

Lordfrontpaw · 10/05/2020 17:45

I love the kelpies - especially when they are lit up
