Do you have any landmarks you look out for so you know you are near home?

As kids when the power satiation’s and the pit came into view we always knew we were nearly home. Now it’s when we can see the ‘golf ball’, which is a radar station but from a distance looks like a giant golf ball, you can see it from miles away.

Castle Montgri. It's a spanish castle on top of a hill.

Oh that takes me back to happy long holidays with that view!

Southampton by any chance @eitak22 ?

longhaulstress · 09/05/2020 22:38

Helsby Hill on the M56

CocoLoco87 · 09/05/2020 22:38

When you get to the 'haunted house' off the motorway then we're 8-10 minutes from home depending on traffic.

lotusbell · 09/05/2020 22:38

Fab picture, @SteeperThanHell😊

princessbear80 · 09/05/2020 22:38

I can’t believe the give peas a chance graffiti isn’t there any more!

Difficultcustomer · 09/05/2020 22:39

The Angel of the North. When I lived in London and travelled by train it was the Emirates stadium which was time to get everything together.

wellthatsjustgreat · 09/05/2020 22:39

As children, we'd know we'd be approaching home when (depending on the direction we'd been) we'd see either, The Abbey or a particular Chinese restaurant. First child to spot it won...we didn't actually win anything but it kept us quiet for ages looking out for it Grin

ThursdayLastWeek · 09/05/2020 22:39

Yeah, the 'nearly home' trees, even though there’s still at least an hour to go when you see them.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 09/05/2020 22:40

Ikea and a wind turbine

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 09/05/2020 22:41

A football stadium if coming from one direction
And a big supermarket if coming from the other.

noriim · 09/05/2020 22:42

Nothing unfortunately....just miles and miles of boring motorway.
I do like to swing into my road, in the spring/summer the tires are a welcoming sight.

noriim · 09/05/2020 22:42

Trees not tires Grin

DramaAlpaca · 09/05/2020 22:42

There's a particular hill to the right of the M6 as you travel north and approach the junction nearest my old family home.

Where I live now it's the lights at the service station which mark the motorway exit I take to get home. You can see them from a couple of miles away.

Lordfrontpaw · 09/05/2020 22:43

When I go ‘back home’. Not why she has 4 arms I have no idea.

Llyn · 09/05/2020 22:44

Yeah, the 'nearly home' trees, even though there’s still at least an hour to go when you see them.

Yes, but at least you're nearly over the Tamar, so it always lifts my spirits...

Artus · 09/05/2020 22:45

When my children were small we always looked out for some graffiti near the M5 M6 junction which said " I t would be quicker to get out and walk" it's too faint to read now.

ImDillDandin · 09/05/2020 22:46

The radio masts at Wychbold. When my DD drove home from London for the first time by herself, in the dark, she said she felt a rush of relief when she saw the red lights of the masts. Nearly home.

AlbusSeverusMalfoy · 09/05/2020 22:46

Grow are those in the same place or different directions?
I said mine but one has a massive wind turbine and the other an Ikea.

LordGarmadon · 09/05/2020 22:46

@Zisforstripyoss I think you must live very close to my parents... is it Old John of the Greys family estate?

tinkywinkyshandbag · 09/05/2020 22:50

@GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal I used to live in StAlbans within spitting distance of the abbey - lovely place and sometimes miss it.

LordGarmadon · 09/05/2020 22:51

The wicker man and the Morrison's that DS thinks is an airport... we're still a million miles from home but it means the majority of our journey is finished and there's no more big city traffic to navigate through!!

tinkywinkyshandbag · 09/05/2020 22:52

There's a certain view over the Cotswolds from the A40 that tells me I'm not far from home.

TheGinGenie · 09/05/2020 22:54

I'm actually struggling to think of anything other than the Devon sign! And that's still an hour away. I guess the A38. Or the Tamar Bridge would put me very near home if I were coming the other way. (No prizes for guessing where I live)
