Will you go out when lockdown is eased?

so say when coffee shops and restaurants are allowed to reopen, will you be going? I can’t see myself being comfortable going out to eat for quite some time

YES

Tangledyarn · 04/05/2020 13:41

Yes, particularly as I've already had covid but I will be v cautious as I have asthma and am struggling to fully recover and want to visit my vulnerable parents and we dont know 100% that you cant be reinfected yet.

Willow2017 · 04/05/2020 13:45

I have never stopped 'going out' due to work but i will be first in the queue for my fave cafe with my book to lose myself in over coffee and a pastry and let the world go by. Apart from family thats the one thing i miss. Its my sanity saving treat each week.

Indoorcamping · 04/05/2020 13:48

Maybe eventually but not at first. Anywhere that opens is going to have huge queues at first.

happypotamus · 04/05/2020 13:49

I think so. But I have been going to work in a front-line public-facing job traveling by public transport throughout lockdown and DC have been going to school, so, as a family, we have been forced to accept the risk of covid. I don't know whether we have been lucky so far and avoided it or been asymptotic, and no one knows whether a potential asymptotic infection would give us any immunity for the future. I only occasionally went to coffee shops or restaurants anyway, but they don't seem hugely more risky than my work/ getting the bus/ going to the supermarket.

Drivingdownthe101 · 04/05/2020 13:50

Yes I will.

Humina · 04/05/2020 13:50

No. I won't. Madness to rush out and get potentially infected in a second wave.

I'll hold off as long as possible so more is known about the virus and side effects.

grumpyorange · 04/05/2020 13:51

No
It will take a lot of convincing for many people I believe. We've had weeks of stay well away from people etc. It has become the new normal.

FizzyPink · 04/05/2020 13:51

Aside from the hairdresser I can’t imagine I will. The risk of catching the virus is exactly the same the day before and after lockdown ends.
Also I can’t imagine enjoying going to a restaurant if there are lots of rules and restrictions in place. We’ll probably stick to having friends over at home for a while

Sarcelle · 04/05/2020 13:51

I will go to seaside, National trust, the supermarket and that is it. I will take a wait and see approach. I need a haircut but I am not going near them either, or the dentist.

HoneyBee03 · 04/05/2020 13:53

Absolutely. DS will be going straight to the grandparents and DH and I will be off out for a nice dinner.

lastqueenofscotland · 04/05/2020 13:56

Yes!!!
I’ll be off for a haircut and supporting my local independent brewery which has an on-site taproom the first day possible.

1990shopefulftm · 04/05/2020 13:57

I m pregnant and asthmatic so will go back to work once it reopens , friends and family are a distance away and could mean public transport which I wouldn't be comfortable doing for a while and will hold off on cafes and the city centre for a bit after its uplifted.

Connie222 · 04/05/2020 13:57

No.

Not at first, imagine the queues and the general madness.

It would depend on when too. I’m due in August and don’t intend on going anywhere apart from hospital appointments or seeing anyone until then, and until then baby is 8 weeks old (neither of my other two have been round anyone apart from Dh/siblings until that age anyway, family have always had to suck it).

winniesanderson · 04/05/2020 14:14

Yes to the beach, woods, national trust places etc. I can't wait for that. But likely to be more cautious with shops and things. Normally constantly popping to shops on the school run but think I'll be more cautious for a while.

BogRollBOGOF · 04/05/2020 14:23

The queues would put me off more than the risk of the virus, but yes, I'll be happy to take steps back to a more normal way of life.

A McDonalds Chicken Wrap will taste like manna from heaven after cooking every single bloody meal for 6 weeks and counting! Grin

BarbedBloom · 04/05/2020 14:26

No, I am vulnerable and will be avoiding anywhere non essential e.g. coffee shops and restaurants. A lot of people I know have said the same and will continue shopping online. Everyone is different though and some need to get out for their mental health

copycopypaste · 04/05/2020 14:26

I very much doubt you'll be allowed to do all these things as of Thursday, even if the lockdown is lifted it's highly unlikely it'll go back to normal any time soon.

The virus hasn't been cured, do people think it's disappeared and you can't get it it pass it on any longer?

Spidey66 · 04/05/2020 14:29

I can't wait!

TinRoofRusty · 04/05/2020 14:30

No, copy, I think some people are willing to risk it rather than hide away on their own for years and years until a vaccine is created. Adults should be 'allowed' to make their own decisions about how to live their lives, not forced to be effective prisoners by the government forever because of a virus they may or may not catch and if they do, which may or may not be mild. The point of lockdown was never to eliminate transmission but to slow it down so it did not overwhelm the health system.

Drivingdownthe101 · 04/05/2020 14:31

No one on this thread has said they expect this to happen on Thursday have they?
I know the virus won’t have gone anywhere when restrictions have eased. I am low risk, with a low risk household. I have stayed at home and done my bit for the past 8 weeks (self isolating due to symptoms before lockdown) in order to protect those at a higher risk and to ease the burden on the NHS, as we were asked to do. When the restrictions are eased, based on my risk and that of my family, I will start going to the places we are permitted to go to.

Couch25k · 04/05/2020 14:32

Yes I will.

PersonaNonGarter · 04/05/2020 14:35

No, but that’s because I can still WFH and what else is there to go to? Confused where would I go?

There aren’t shops to browse in or theatre to go to. And restaurants will stay shut. I suppose I could meet a friends for a walk.

And wow - how naive are some of the replies on this thread.

Smelborp · 04/05/2020 14:36

Vivid won’t disappear when the restrictions are lifted. They’ll just be trying to keep the R number under 1 to prevent exponential growth of new infections.

People will still die of the disease and even those that don’t may have a long and unpleasant recovery. I’ll go to wide open spaces, but I won’t be rushing to go to cafes, much as I miss them.

SpratsOnParade · 04/05/2020 14:37

People are talking about when these things are gradually opened. Hence the thread title.
