Lighthearted: What did you panic buy?

When everyone else was panic buying flour and toilet roll, I bought peanut butter. DD(8) is the world’s mist random eater, but will always eat a peanut butter sandwich. We have just come to the end of the 6 week supply I bought. We’ve eaten a lot of peanut butter sandwhiches recently!

My colleague who lives in a city centre flat bought a rowing machine. Says it’s the best money she’s ever spent.

Scented candles.

Yorkshire tea! To be fair, it was on offer at a local shop and it’ll definitely get drunk. Food substitutions I can live with, but I can’t compromise on my tea!

Green and Blacks milk chocolate.

Black olives and sausages and pasta (two of those big 3kg bags) - dd2 is very restricted in her food (asd) so needed to make sure we had her staples in and glad we did, it's not gone to waste! I also bought 3 months worth of dd2 vitamins as she will only take one certain brand (chalky vitakids).

I don't think I count as properly panic buying but I did have a mild fear of running out of cat food so I bought double the amount for a few weeks prior to Lockdown Largely because one of my cats will take my face off if I give her anything other then her preferred brand.

And loose leaf Assam tea. I don't drink loose leaf often but think I got a bit carried away with the whole wartime survival spirit thing. I feel like my late Grandad would be proud! Grin

I feel very smug, as we have loads of family birthdays from Mid march until the end of May I thought I had better stock up on flour.(as I make everyone a special cake for their Birthday)
I have not run out Grin yet!!
So far 7 Birthday cakes and a Golden Wedding cake....3 Birthdays to go!

Dottiedot19 How did you bulk buy cat food without jinxing the flavour they will agree to eat?

Dottiedot19 · 05/05/2020 21:16

I had to sacrifice a virgin under the light of the full moon to ensure the cats would not change their preferences.

Bit tricky considering where I live but the cats are worth it! Grin

We sort of accidentally panic bought anti dandruff shampoo. DH thought he was being clever but failed to notice that I had also stocked up. We should be ok for a while now...

I got a mirena coil so I didn’t have to worry about contraception and/or periods 🙈

@theseriousmoonlight

I bought loads of those Aldi biscuits. I ate them all in the first two weeks. You did yourself a favour!

WellAintThatAShitbiscuit · 05/05/2020 23:35

Jaffa cakes and yarn for crochet... Jaffa cakes for partner who'd had open heart surgery just as this all started and kept asking for jaffa cakes and the yarn for me to crochet away the stress!

StarlightLady · 06/05/2020 06:13

Tampax.

Tinned tomatoes.

Condoms.

Not necessarily for use at the same time!

I bought a spin bike from ebay when my gym shut. Been on three times a week for the past 2 months. I was going to sell it after lockdown but now I'm thinking I might just keep it and cancel my gym membership.

I also bought a few bags of Jamie Oliver lentil things that are totally rank and I am struggling to finish.

Deathraystare · 06/05/2020 07:30

Not exactly panic buying as in buying lots of stuff, but when I could not get loo roll for love nor money, I found one in one of those small shops (like a Nisa but not) I got really excited when I saw a 24 pack of loo rolls. The only type in the shop. Not so excited when I saw the price! Had to buy it though as I share a flat and we take it in turns to buy. I can't order on line so I got these and they are waiting to be used!

sueelleker · 06/05/2020 08:26

I actually found a 16 pack of loo rolls in Poundland for £2. They're not bad quality either.

Cat litter and cat food. I can survive on cupboard food but was having sleepless nights wondering what I could feed the cat from my cupboard. On the plus side I haven't bought any food for him for the last 7 weeks.
Btw I have 3 children but for some strange reason the cat was my priority. I'm normally very logical and my kids come first, honestly 😇

mommybear1 · 06/05/2020 09:36

A trampoline and sand for DS sand pit he's a nine sleeper and I really really needed to wear him out ...... it hasn't worked!!!

theseriousmoonlight · 06/05/2020 14:48

@TowandaForever I went in today and they had them back in stock! I am not ashamed to say that I panic bought 3 packets.

ifonly4 · 06/05/2020 14:54

I did prep beforehand, but I ended up panic buying cat food - while everyone else was buying cans, I'd go straight round to the cat food to get another couple of boxes.

Turned out I did the right thing, Purina are having problems keeping up with the usual amount manufactured due to the coronavirus, and my boys two usual products are out of stock everywhere. Luckily my stash will see them through (I hope!).
