Lighthearted: What did you panic buy?

When everyone else was panic buying flour and toilet roll, I bought peanut butter. DD(8) is the world’s mist random eater, but will always eat a peanut butter sandwich. We have just come to the end of the 6 week supply I bought. We’ve eaten a lot of peanut butter sandwhiches recently!

My colleague who lives in a city centre flat bought a rowing machine. Says it’s the best money she’s ever spent.

I can tell you what I didn't panic buy and now totally regret: more biscuits. Specifically aldi own chocolate hob nobs. There haven't been any when I've gone in for weeks now and I could have bought three bloody packets at the start of this. To be fair though, I'd have scoffed them all by now anyway...

Sgtmajormummy · 02/05/2020 22:02

A 100-scoop box of washing powder. It’s the size of a carry-on suitcase.

Okay, it was comparatively cheap and will be used eventually. But in two months I’ve used a fraction (for whites only) and every time I walk past, I feel it’s mocking me....

NotMyUsualNameNoSiree · 02/05/2020 22:02

Avene moisturiser, three of the same in the Boots 3 for 2 offer. Because what I really care about (while the world burns, and I'm wiping my ass on my bare hand) is making sure my skin doesn't feel tight and uncomfortable.

Yarn for knitting! To be fair I've used most of it, so I'm considering it less a panic buy and more a sensible precaution haha.

sarge89 · 02/05/2020 22:04

Puzzle books!

Mammatino · 02/05/2020 22:06

Chicken nuggets for DS, long life apple juice DS, roysters crisps DS, Budweiser and pot noodles for DH, galaxy and fake tan for me. I haven’t been out for weeks but I am glowing and smell of biscuits...I wish I’d got biscuits.

Ilovelblue · 02/05/2020 22:10

Frozen prawns! My cat needed medication once and would only take the tablets if I grated them up in a dish of prawns for his breakfast and the habit carried on long after he recovered from his illness. I always keep a full freezer of food for myself and wasn't worried that if I fell ill or had to self-isolate that I wouldn't have enough food to see me through but I did worry what might happen to the cat's breakfast. Mad I know.

Murdernotinparadise · 02/05/2020 22:10

Peanut butter here too Blush. DS10 loves nothing more. Although halfway through last tub now and no local shops have any in. Tesco had run out too when I went last week. He's on rations atm Wink

SleepyBoPeepy · 02/05/2020 22:11

My husband bought tinned soup which he keeps offering me for lunch, but I’ve told him the soup is his problem and one (1) tin of fruit cocktail in case we ‘needed the vitamins’ Hmm

FusionChefGeoff · 02/05/2020 22:11

6 boxes of my favourite herbal lavender tea from the local health food store
6 boxes of Darjeeling tea bags
Compost
Fence paint
Plain paper for printer

Biscuits!

Samtsirch · 02/05/2020 22:11

I panic bought deodorant, have no idea why, I have enough now to last me the rest of my natural.
My OH panic bought washing up liquid and condoms, bless him, the washing up liquid has come in very useful
🤣

wildflowersandweeds · 02/05/2020 22:12

Easter eggs. Bazillions of Easter eggs.

Now they're all gone but I'm reminded of them every time I look in the mirror and see Humpty Dumpty.

Plant seeds. Every day off my husband now makes me a new raised bed. I have so many tomato plants!

Debating getting a pony.

MurrayTheMonk · 02/05/2020 22:13

2000 tea bags Grin. I was with a colleague in Costco for work just before lockdown was announced and panic seized me! We have actually only just opened the sack as we had two normal packets of tea bags left anyway...
DP bought 4 bottles of cherry brandy for some reason which I scoffed at but have become quite partial to...we had no traditional mixers so I popped it in some fresh orange-bloody lovely!

Sausagis · 02/05/2020 22:13

Hay :) Packets of it.
Guinea-pigs have almost finished it.
Should have panic bought a puppy

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 02/05/2020 22:17

A bouncy seesaw thing for the garden. DS has ASD and is sensory seeking. He has to swing/bounce/ spin etc constantly. Having the playpark closed has been hellish.

YinMnBlue · 02/05/2020 22:20

LOL at panic-bought condoms.

I was wondering about all the stuff people panic bought today and wondering if they felt silly now for hoarding pasta, toilet roll and flour

Doubt it re the flour. None on the shelves here for 5 weeks.

BikeRunSki · 02/05/2020 22:20

@Murdernotinparadise - loads of peanut butter on Amazon. We buy 1kg tubs of Pip n Nut.

Not panic buying as such but I did get a £50 12 bottle wine deal after the virus began here but before lockdown just incase It was needed Blush

Ilikefresias · 02/05/2020 22:25

Tonic water, I had plenty of gin!! Only just running out now and my alcohol consumption has definitely increased Wink

NotStayingIn · 02/05/2020 22:25

Cans of soup and those little sachets of miso soup. I must have thought soup would be the answer to my prayers during this time. Will save them though as who knows, when this second wave kicks in they might still come in handy.

winterisstillcoming · 02/05/2020 22:26

Bao buns. I love them and when I want them I just want them.

Witchend · 02/05/2020 22:26

Cola!

Dh hates me having a can, but sometimes it is the only thing that I really want. He's working from home, so I knew it would be hard to buy and get into the house without him seeing.

Only other thing was ibuprofen. However that's been short (in the cheap packets) since about last September, so I've got used to buying it whenever I see it. With 3 of us that need it for period pain and migraines, running out is a pain. Literally.
However at the maximum I had was 4 packets at home and 1 at work, and a packet is only 16, it never got to huge stockpile amounts.

I've also got a fair amount of budgie food now, because whenever I pass Wilcos I buy a couple of packets. It's never been in short supply, but I don't go to the shops much now.

Khione · 02/05/2020 22:32

Wine

and cheese

so long as I also had water and access to bread or crackers of any description - I could survive for a while on that. I also always have a freezer full of homemade soup.

Sarcelle · 02/05/2020 22:35

Vitamins in case my diet went to shit.

KatherineJaneway · 02/05/2020 22:38

Dry cat food. One of my cats is partial to the dry cat food we get from the vets. She would be really stressed without it as she calls for it if it has run out. I went to the vets and bought a huge bag and a smaller bag as soon as I reaslied there was going to be an issue.
