Lighthearted: What did you panic buy?

When everyone else was panic buying flour and toilet roll, I bought peanut butter. DD(8) is the world’s mist random eater, but will always eat a peanut butter sandwich. We have just come to the end of the 6 week supply I bought. We’ve eaten a lot of peanut butter sandwhiches recently!

My colleague who lives in a city centre flat bought a rowing machine. Says it’s the best money she’s ever spent.

Plain paper- I’d read that in the french lockdown you needed to print / hand write a ‘pass’ for a reason as to why you needed to be out, as I have horses I was convinced we’d need LOADS of paper. Printed about 3 pages in all this time Blush

Murdernotinparadise · 02/05/2020 22:40

@BikeRunSki ooh, thanks for the tip off Grin

NickMarlow · 02/05/2020 22:41

Paper, bubbles and glow sticks.

Dds are 5 and 20mo. Glow sticks in the bath is a special treat for the witching hour before tea when I am tearing my hair out. DH got 2 packs in the pound shop the week before lockdown, I gave in and used the first one on Wednesday. Quite impressed I made it nearly 6 weeks tbh!!!

Not what I did buy, but what I wish I had bought - flour! Still cannot get any in the local supermarkets. Where has all the flour gone?!

Mothership4two · 02/05/2020 22:54

Tinned vegetables (still got most of them) and an outdoor ping pong table (best lockdown buy!)

I had already prepped for Brexit so we were very well stocked. However when i saw everyone else panic buying toilet roll i did buy a lidded bucket plus 20 very cheap flannels on the grounds that if our Brexit stash of loo rolls ran out we would have an alternative. DH was appalled. Thankfully we haven't had to go down that route.

Borris · 02/05/2020 23:14

Board games

laffer · 02/05/2020 23:14

Storage shelving and boxes from ikea, bought just before they closed. For reasons I can't quite articulate it made me feel better about the ensuing lockdown.Confused

Duffmcstockings · 02/05/2020 23:18

Chickens and veg plants. The plants still haven't turned up Hmm But the chickens are the sweetest little souls and give us four eggs a day.

DamnYankee · 02/05/2020 23:18

I didn't exactly panic buy. However, I'd buy pasta too often out of forgetfulness and concern that others were panic-buying it. The shelves were close to empty!

So I think I'll be handing out packages of pasta for gifts, donations, and maybe even Halloween treats. My kids would loooove that and not be embarrassed about it at all..Not. Confused

@Wobblysausage: Yes I'm wondering about one lady who had almost a full cart of canned chicken-noddle soup. However, she was quite overweight and perhaps needed all that to keep up her strength?

Murinae · 02/05/2020 23:21

40 kg of chicken food which I‘m glad about as after lockdown there was a shortage and layers pellets got really expensive. I also bought lots of cat food which we are still using though to be fair it was just my usual bulk buy. So I haven’t regretted any of my purchases.

Cherrysoup · 02/05/2020 23:24

Before lockdown, I bought a 24 pack of loo roll because I’d heard there was a shortage. There wasn’t.

Someone I know panic bought a horse. I wish I’d panic bought loads of bedding for mine, his skin reacts poorly to different stuff. I’ve just opened a new bale, I’m keeping a close eye!

OublietteBravo · 02/05/2020 23:30

Office furniture/equipment. Desk, monitor, office chair, bookcase, printer (plus paper/spare toner), floor lamp, rug, filing cabinet, shredder, wireless headset. I spent almost £1000, and the box room is now a fully-functioning home office. I don’t regret it at all - especially as it appears I’ll be WFH for the foreseeable future.

ThighThighofthigh · 02/05/2020 23:37

Coffee!!! I'm prepared to shower my bum in the absence of loo roll but not to go without coffee.

Psst I have yeast, and flour.

Sunnydaysrock · 02/05/2020 23:42

2 decent sun loungers and a pod style swing seat for the garden, sun cream, exercise bike and all the stuff I needed for both DC birthdays they have had in April. Oh and Annie Sloan paint so DD16 can be busy painting furniture seeing as GCSEs etc cancelled...not touched yet Grin

whiskeylullaby2 · 03/05/2020 07:36

I was in Asda the day lockdown was announced the yin section was completely bare except for pinto beans. Never bought them before, I bough 3. Still on my cupboard an no idea what to do with them !

Beautiful3 · 03/05/2020 07:37

I haven't panic bought anything. But when the lock down was announced I didn't touch my food in the freezer chest, I bought fresh food for the week and ate that instead. I'm saving the frozen food for just in case.

LaneBoy · 03/05/2020 07:38

A lightning cable charger. The thought of being in lockdown without my phone/iPad was unbearable :o

Smelborp · 03/05/2020 07:39

Compost, but I still ran out really quickly.

sueelleker · 03/05/2020 08:21

@moobar. Could you get her a Kindle? Amazon have loads of cheap/free kids ebooks.

sueelleker · 03/05/2020 08:24

@EmmaGrundyForPM When the loo roll crisis hit I bought a triple-pack of Andrex wet wipes. I haven't had to use them yet.
