Lighthearted: What did you panic buy?

When everyone else was panic buying flour and toilet roll, I bought peanut butter. DD(8) is the world’s mist random eater, but will always eat a peanut butter sandwich. We have just come to the end of the 6 week supply I bought. We’ve eaten a lot of peanut butter sandwhiches recently!

My colleague who lives in a city centre flat bought a rowing machine. Says it’s the best money she’s ever spent.

I didn’t panic buy but did panic book delivery slots for as far ahead as was possible - I had the early access to Easter slots. That was before lockdown was even announced as I couldn’t get my usual one as full and realised they might start going. They probably ended up a better investment than panic buying as I got to help all my family and friends too through those crazy weeks.

A chemistry set for dd, which has been used albeit lightly. (She's actually concentrated on physics experiments weirdly).

Coffee - because I know how much DH and I buy at work daily. I've had to buy loads since in the weekly shop and I bought nice stuff this week, and DH is still grumbly (we had a "boring" one as all I could get for about 4 weeks, and now I've "gone overboard " buying 3 packs of nice coffee - with the intention of interspersing it between the humdrum version).

And A3 paper for dd for tech graphics drawing, she had none (and was out with a flu so missed the teacher handing out a small supply each on the breakup day) and the only place I could get it I had to buy a ream. I'll use it up for my Cub Scouts over time and she's got 4 more years of drawing ahead of her.

DH bought Easter Eggs around the beginning of Feb in case there were food/type/brand shortages. He’s a bit more understanding of current affairs than me. 9 years ago, he stopped me from calling DD Isis.

And dd insisted, on the last day she was food shopping with me before but when it was obvious, on getting a 160 bag box of teabags. I knew we had one at home, but in fairness, we are now into that 2nd box as her tea intake is a lot higher than we had thought (she drinks it a lot ot school apparently, a bit like our coffee consumption😂)

StudentHelp · 03/05/2020 09:57

Hay here too, although I always have some stashed away.
Just bought 2kg every time I went to the shops and by the time I came home from uni with 5 pigs I had 16kg Grin. It’s all been used and at times we’ve struggled to get more so I don’t consider it a panic buy exactly!

DreamingofSunshine · 03/05/2020 10:03

Yarn. I have enough to lock down for five years.

undercoveraessedai · 03/05/2020 10:10

Cat litter! Except it was less a panic buy and more a mistake - ended up with ten 20kg bags Blush it is getting used and I'm struggling to get more so don't regret it.

Though as I failed to buy an extra food or loo rolls during the panic buying, have been the subject of some hilarious jokes in my family Grin

happypotamus · 03/05/2020 10:20

Also, bubble wands. It was actually during lock down. I was in B&M buying wrapping paper for DD's birthday presents (I didn't panic buy that pre-lockdown and, bizarrely, there was none at all in the supermarket a couple of weeks ago). I was on my way home from a night shift, which is never a good time to shop, and decided we really needed bubble wands so bought a big pack. DC are 9 and 5, and were briefly entertained by bubble wands but we have a lot left.

Shopaholic100 · 03/05/2020 11:49

Sanitary towels, I seem to have bought about a years supply. I think I just forgot how many I already hadGrin

moobar · 03/05/2020 11:50

@sueelleker thank you, I should have said she's only a toddler. So was a case of stocking the real bookcase for now. Kindle eventually though.

tiredanddangerous · 03/05/2020 11:55

I didn’t panic buy but I started putting a few extra bits into my weekly shop for a good few weeks before lockdown. Mostly tinned stuff, paracetamol/calpol, cat food/litter and loo roll.

Thelnebriati · 03/05/2020 12:09

We live near a supermarket that sells staples like beans and flour in 10kg sacks, and trays of tinned tomatoes; so I didn't panic buy anything because I'd already stocked up in January when I saw the news.

BearSoFair · 03/05/2020 12:22

Soba and Shin Cup instant noodles Blush Usually have 3 in the cupboard, maybe have them for lunch once a fortnight or so. But DS1 (18) likes them too so at t he start of lockdown I think we had 15!

BearSoFair · 03/05/2020 12:24

Oh yes to sanitary towels too, but that was after lockdown started! Couldn't get them anywhere locally so I ended up buying a bulk box of 16 packs, my periods are light and DD hasn't settled into a regular cycle yet so they'll probably last about 6 months!

TSSDNCOP · 03/05/2020 12:33

Marmite

OldEvilOwl · 03/05/2020 12:56

I bought two cartons of longlife milk. Still in the cupboard. I'll take them next time we go camping, won't be going anywhere else on holiday this year

timeforawine · 03/05/2020 12:58

Didn't panic buy but bought more wine, sweets and chocolate than normal Grin

Dontlickthetrolley · 03/05/2020 13:17

Not panicked bought but have gone through nearly 90 cans of diet coke since lock down and another 24 currently in the basket for Tuesdays click and collect Shock.

UnfinishedSymphon · 03/05/2020 13:22

Paracetamol and ibuprofen, I bought a pack of each in every shop I could find them and instructed DP to do the same. I take them every day though so I've never had a massive amount at any one time

riotlady · 03/05/2020 13:39

Rice, by accident! I wanted some in my morrisons order for a curry and they were out of all the regular sizes so I ended up buying 8kg!

We also went on a massive calpol hunt as ours was nearly out and couldn’t find it in any of the big shops. Eventually found one in a little pharmacy near my uni.

Wish I’d bought some plain white flour!

Candyflosscookie · 03/05/2020 15:16

I panic bought my fav coffee. Just as well as i would def have killed WFH DH by now without it Grin

MotherWol · 03/05/2020 16:07

Art supplies- we don’t normally do much art & craft with DD at home as she’s at nursery FT, so I stocked up on paints and paper. I dug the yoga mat and weights out of the cupboard, so glad I had them!

We didn’t really need to stock up on anything else, we have a fairly well stocked cupboard as I’ve been making sure we had what we needed in case of no deal Brexit. Which makes it all the more frustrating that DH didn’t check what we already had and bought ten packs of paracetamol Hmm

dannydyerismydad · 03/05/2020 16:09

Hoodies.

I usually wear dresses to work and DS was running out of clothes that aren't uniform that fit.

I stocked up on comfy clothes.

skankingpiglet · 03/05/2020 16:20

Board games
Craft stuff
Printer ink and paper
Stationary
English & maths work books for DCs
Snack boxes for the DCs (to supply daily rations)
Wall paint
Cement and ballast
Floor levelling compound
9 boxes of parquet flooring

CigarsofthePharoahs · 03/05/2020 16:54

I've got the weirdest one.
DH helped me clean out and tidy up my sewing and craft storage area.
Turns out I've been accidentally hoarding Christmas paper chains.
