Lighthearted: What did you panic buy?

When everyone else was panic buying flour and toilet roll, I bought peanut butter. DD(8) is the world’s mist random eater, but will always eat a peanut butter sandwich. We have just come to the end of the 6 week supply I bought. We’ve eaten a lot of peanut butter sandwhiches recently!

My colleague who lives in a city centre flat bought a rowing machine. Says it’s the best money she’s ever spent.

Blush A sewing machine, to add to the two sewing machines that I already had. And quite a lot of fabric because I only had enough for two lifetimes already.

However, I have been doing a TON of quilting so I am getting through some of the fabric, I'm totally in love with my new machine and I have given my old machine and some of my fabric to my friend who is making masks for health care workers. The machine that she was using wasn't up to the job.

Quite a lot of 'educational' toys and supplies. 2 yo DC had been in nursery 5 days a week until lockdown and I was terrified of having to fill every day with activities.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 03/05/2020 17:22

Craft items for DS mainly, a trip to the works for paint, crayons, pavement chalk, bubble wands, and balloons from eBay. It's been a lifesaver!!

I don’t blame you @YouAndMeAndTheDevilMakesThree, that would have terrified me, my youngest is 8.

FuckyNel · 03/05/2020 17:35

A peleton bike!

mypoorfurbaby · 03/05/2020 17:41

It a panic buy but I've done a repeat order on a specific gluten free bread on amazon for DD.
It's only been in Tesco's once since before lockdown.
I also did a big order of her freedom chocolate spread as we can't get it anywhere.

MikeUniformMike · 03/05/2020 17:48

Nothing. I'm a bit of a hoarder and had plenty of everything.

Grumpbum123 · 03/05/2020 17:58

A paddling pool
A hammock
New football
New PS4 games
Sub to Disney + so they can watch back to back simpsons

My H bought pot noodles and spam 🤢

RhymingRabbit3 · 03/05/2020 18:10

Sticker books for DD aged 3. She will spend hours on a good quality sticker book (much less time on a crummy "sticker activity book" where there are 3 stickers per page and then a whole page of tiny stickers allowing them to say "over 100 stickers!" On the front...

Reusable nappies and wipes. I was planning to use them for baby anyway and has bought some suitable for 3months plus, but decided to splash out on newborn ones just in case I couldn't get disposaes easily.

Dominoz · 03/05/2020 20:10

My Dad bought baked beans. He spent £40 on a few cans on Amazon and they turned out to be these fake cans you can hide stuff in. Made me giggle 🤭

Not pre-lockdown but in its early days, 2 footballs and 2 tubes of tennis balls. Dd had managed to burst one in brambles on the green so needed a spare (she burst the "good" one, the "bad" one had been superglued at the seams a coupe of times to keep it going, but it literally is about to fall apart). One of the new ones also fell to the brambles, but the 2nd one had been very very well used. As have the tennis balls. And it was supporting a local sports shop so we were glad to do that. (They were driving around doing deliveries themselves, and when he realised who we were (regular enough customers) and that dd had not got enough hockey balls for practise at home, he went back home and brought her a few from his own DD's stash of no longer used hockey balls) 😀

I had bought a few sharing bags of crisps in my grocery preparations, and we haven't eaten those. I was expecting a good few evenings waiting for dinner and munching, but it's generally been so busy here, even at weekends, that it hasn't happened, only the 1 night I lit a charcoal bbq which took ages to heat up. (We normally use gas bbq, but I have a wee charcoal one for camping!!)

On our street, jigsaws are being swapped between houses as they are completed. I meant to get one I have in storage but it slipped my mind. So I'm not part of the swop yet, once someone else has finished with a swop one I will be.

MrsEricBana · 05/05/2020 09:33

Just before lockdown my neighbour asked me to get her some flour as she bakes. I could only get her a 16kg bag from a particular source. She said "No ta!" and I thought yes maybe I was being silly suggesting such a big bag. Now....

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 05/05/2020 13:05

Toothpaste and bubble bath, wanted jigsaws but so did a lot of other people apparently Grin

spiderlight · 05/05/2020 13:11

Yorkshire Tea Biscuit brew teabags. I can live without pretty much anything except tea!

listsandbudgets · 05/05/2020 14:05

colouring pencils, paracetomol (sorry everyone but I did share with our neighbours on either side) strepsils and most importantly nice popcorn

BiddyPop · 05/05/2020 14:30

DH just came down for lunch quite chagrined. He had organised a new phone for DMIL from Amazon, nice DS that he is. Next order was a replacement football for DD and he was wondering where that was as it seemed to be taking a while. Talking to DMIL this morning, the mystery is solved - it arrived in her house today!! Grin Postage would cost more than the ball cost to redirect it to us. So he told DMIL to kick it next door to her other DS and his 3 DCs for them to use, and DH will order another for DD. I really hope the stitches don't entirely burst before this one arrives, as that one took over a week.

FoxRedLabrador · 05/05/2020 14:53

Coffee beans, books and spices!

Nekoness · 05/05/2020 14:58

Arborio rice and Parmesan cheese. Not sure what the hell I was thinking as my kids have never tried risotto but I was thinking comfort food and thought it would be next after pastagate

actiongirl1978 · 05/05/2020 15:07

85% chocolate from aldi and lidl about 25 packs. I just finished the last bar...

I have also finished 4 tubs of chococo 80% buttons.

As I am not shopping and relying on deliveries I have had to resort to tesco dark choc from this weekend. I have a serious habit.

Also a paddling pool which the dog popped on day 1.

And since lockdown Have had to buy a new printer, new pc and 2 refurbished ipads.

NestOfvipers · 05/05/2020 15:08

Sunscreen.
Lockdown pretty much coincided with the sun coming out and I decided to buy sunscreen before everyone else did. Thought life would be more miserable if we had to limit our time outside due to lack of sunscreen.

justdontatme · 05/05/2020 15:13

A telly.

GrinGrin grin]

We didn't need to panic buy that as we eat loads of pasta, risotto and parmesan here. I have about 2kg of risotto rice in at all times (topped up every time we finish a 500g pack) and at least 300-400g of parmesan at any one time (either grated and in the freezer or unopended in the fridge)

DS loves any combination of cheese and carb but risotto/ pasta with parmesan are his all time favourite

I did buy quite a lot of dried tortellini in late March though. 16 packs of 250g each. We have about 3 left and only DS eats them!!
