I didn't realise she was due already. Baby boy born this morning!

There's an alarming subsect on both sides of the electorate who put colour of allegiance above character and morals.
Or maybe they think his poor record of being faithful bears absolutely no relevance whatsoever to whether he's a good PM?

Bill Clinton - "hard dog to keep on the porch", democrat, widely accepted as a good president.
Theresa May - never a whiff of scandal, Tory, widely accepted as a poor PM.
John Major - embarrassing single side-swerve, Tory, mediocre PM.
Tony Blair - faithful dh in early years, unknown later, Labour, mixed PM.
Helmut Kohl - unfaithful dh, CDU (lib/cons), well regarded as a Chancellor.
It's just a complete irrelevance to their performance as political leader.

What a warm and friendly community MN is. And, of course, welcoming and delighted at the birth of a baby - what with it being MUMSnet and all.

Oh, wait...

ducksback · 29/04/2020 13:30

Good point Megan but it will fall on deaf ears.

Roussette · 29/04/2020 13:31

I don't think we are being rude about the MUM.

Just the father.

MarieQueenofScots · 29/04/2020 13:33

Or maybe they think his poor record of being faithful bears absolutely no relevance whatsoever to whether he's a good PM?

Interesting that was the example you chose. Very telling.

I’m more referring to lies, homophobia, racism, misogyny. All attributes that are something I would take issue with in the character of an MP; not just the Prime Minister.

Womenwotlunch · 29/04/2020 13:34

@MarieQueenofScots
Exactly

Alsohuman · 29/04/2020 13:34

Or maybe they think his poor record of being faithful bears absolutely no relevance whatsoever to whether he's a good PM?

What about his poor record of telling the truth? Is that relevant?

cacaca · 29/04/2020 13:34

@HMSSophie oh look it’s been announced he’s taking delayed paternity leave. I’m sure this still isn’t good enough for you. He can’t win in this situation, takes it he’s slated, doesn’t take it slated for leaving Carrie on her own. I think after being absent for so long with coronavirus he would not have contemplated taking more time off so soon.

peppermintcapsules · 29/04/2020 13:35

Why are women compelled to be gushing and congratulatory to some random just because they've given birth? Hmm

ducksback · 29/04/2020 13:37

I don't think we are being rude about the MUM

Then you have definitely not read the while thread. She has been called a 'mistress', a 'latest squeeze' and 'the first unmarried mother' to be in No 10 just for starters.
Take a look if you don't believe me.

Binterested · 29/04/2020 13:38

Very difficult time for them both. I wish them all the best. I vote for naming the baby Balonz Grin

ducksback · 29/04/2020 13:38

And the baby has been called 'illegitmate' by one virtually illiterate poster. And he is only a few hours old.

cantory · 29/04/2020 13:39

@peppermintcapsules Misogyny

Roussette · 29/04/2020 13:39

OK, as I posted that I realised some people have been rude about her. By association I think. And not me.

Why is it rude to say she is the first unmarried mother in No. 10 though? That is fact.

The rudeness AFAIC is directed at him.

MarieQueenofScots · 29/04/2020 13:40

’the first unmarried mother' to be in No 10 just for starters

Well historically that’s an interesting point. I certainly don’t see being an unmarried mother as a negative. I’m hoping to become one Grin

MeganBacon · 29/04/2020 13:41

Interesting that was the example you chose. Very telling.
Really? What does it tell you, other than (obviously) exactly what it says? You must have some special power to read between the lines.

Roussette · 29/04/2020 13:41

I just have no idea why we have to be so elated about a baby being born to a mother we don't know, a father we don't like or respect ....any more than being elated about a complete stranger on the other side of the world having a baby. Apart from a baby being born safely.
I find it weird.

Alsohuman · 29/04/2020 13:42

Why is it rude to say she is the first unmarried mother in No. 10 though? That is fact

As are all the other terms being objected to. Language will become greatly impoverished if it’s censored as some people want it to be.

ducksback · 29/04/2020 13:42

Why the fuck does it MATTER if she is unmarried? This is not 1950.
And the same poster referred to her as his 'mistress' so I do not think they meant it as a purely factual observation. Rather more a slur, but not realising that it said much more about them than it does about Carrie Symonds.

ducksback · 29/04/2020 13:43

As are all the other terms being objected to. Language will become greatly impoverished if it’s censored as some people want it to be

So you are ok with labelling another woman a 'mistress' or 'his latest squeeze'?

Janaih · 29/04/2020 13:44

I certainly don’t see being an unmarried mother as a negative

Have you not been on mn long? It's the height of irresponsibility

MarieQueenofScots · 29/04/2020 13:44

Why the fuck does it MATTER if she is unmarried? This is not 1950

It literally doesn’t but if one is interested in social history it is an interesting point. I can’t speak for what other posters say, but certainly isn’t a slur IMO.

Roussette · 29/04/2020 13:45

Mind you... to put this all in context, I didn't care a fig about Leo Blair being born either, apart from he was born safely.

BuddleiaTime · 29/04/2020 13:45

There's an alarming subsect on both sides of the electorate who put colour of allegiance above character and morals.

Exactly, which is how the current PM got elected. His character and morals didn't bother a certain type of person.

MarieQueenofScots · 29/04/2020 13:45

Have you not been on mn long? It's the height of irresponsibility

Yes. 14 years.

As I said I’m hoping to be one, I’m already a single mother.
