Three adults in the house - how much milk per week?

Sadik · 28/04/2020 21:24

We seem to be going through an average of 20 pints a week, pretty much all in tea/coffee (porridge or pancakes on a Sunday morning maybe). That doesn't even include all the milk dd & I drink as we're both working out of the house around 3 days a week (key workers).

Never counted before as I don't usually shop weekly, but I'm now wondering how much tea per day is too much!

3 adults (2 working outside the house) and a 7 year old 50% of the time. Around 8 pints a week.

40somethingJBJ · 28/04/2020 23:31

One adult, one teenager here and we get through 8 pints a week! Ds likes to drink milk and we both have cereals quite often.

20Newnames · 28/04/2020 23:52

2 adults and 2 older teens. Before this we would usually 8 2l cartons per week in our supermarket delivery so 28pts.

Slightly less now due to restrictions and I’ve told people not to just drink pints of it but probably still 20-22 pints a week.

zozozoe · 28/04/2020 23:56

Two adults and we get through 3.5-4 pints a week.

zozozoe · 28/04/2020 23:56

Often have cereal with yoghurt instead, would highly recommend!

BammBamm · 28/04/2020 23:59

Around 35, so 5 pints a day. It's pretty much the only thing DD will drink, plus cereals/porridge and tea. Also used for cooking/pancake mix etc. We use oat milk on top of that for coffee, but maybe a couple of 1l cartons of that a week.

Mrsdoubtfireswig · 29/04/2020 00:04

8 pints - 1 adult, 1 toddler. Cereal / porridge every day plus mil drinks for DS and a lot of brews for me

Clammyclam · 29/04/2020 00:11

Oh you are my people

2 adults and 2 DC
DH uses it sparingly but the DC are milk
Monsters

We go through, on average, 4 pints a day at the moment, it's less when they are at school.

So about 28 pints of SS milk a week.

JustStayHome · 29/04/2020 00:13

About 28 pints a week

Christmashope19 · 29/04/2020 07:24

2 adults and 2 teenagers here and we get through on average 20 pints a week!

Umnoway · 29/04/2020 07:30

We get through about 8-12 pints a week I’d say, depends how much cereal people have. Two adults, four children.

Impatientwino · 29/04/2020 07:37

2 adults and 2 children here.

Both DC have porridge nearly every day and we drink a fair amount of tea. We also have a cappuccino machine so DH and I have gotten into a 10am habit there.

Probably 8-10 pints semi and 6 pints full cream I would guess.

Winegumlover · 29/04/2020 07:39

Easily 12’pints

phyllidia · 29/04/2020 07:42

None, 1 adult.

(Don't drink hot drinks or have cereal)

BarbaraofSeville · 29/04/2020 07:57

It's about a pint per person per day which doesn’t sound excessive if you like milky hot drinks. Did you buy coffee shop drinks before? If people are switching those to home, the difference will be noticeable. Also if you're trying to reduce shopping trips it can take you by surprise how often some things run out.

I think we use maybe about 12 pints a week for two adults, including tea and coffee, DP morning porridge and occasional white/cheese sauce.

woodencoffeetable · 29/04/2020 08:01

1 pint of dairy milk & about 3 liters of oat milk.

20 pints is about ten liters, that's a builder's bucket full!

fessmess · 29/04/2020 08:12

2 milk drinking adults here. 18 pints. It's my husband, he drinks gallons on the stuff 🤢

BolloxtoGender · 29/04/2020 08:18

6 to 7 pints a week. 2 adults, one teen, all at home, but it's mainly the teen using the milk. DH has black coffee and occasional porridge. I have milk in my tea (lots of during the day) plus any for cooking. Teen has it on cereal everyday. So I don't we are a big milk consuming family, but we still seem to get through a lot...

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 29/04/2020 08:43

Currently me DH and adult sized DS at home. We easily get through 4 pints a day in “normal times” so are now on rations as our local small supermarket won’t Usually let me buy more than one carton per day and I’m also shopping for an elderly neighbour who also needs milk. Lack of milk is very upsetting for autistic DS who only likes to drink milk or water. If the manager is on the till or shop floor then I’m allowed to buy MY milk and the neighbours milk in one shop but if he’s not there then it can’t be authorised 😔

Sadik · 29/04/2020 08:44

I agree a pint a day per person sounds much less BarbaraofSeville. No coffee shop drinks normally, but DD & I would be out the house 8-6 weekdays whereas we're both wfh some of the time now, DP doesn't normally live here full time plus even when he is based here travels a lot & is currently here 24/7.

Add in shopping weekly & it becomes a bit alarming looking (as does the amount of cheese / eggs / bread / butter we eat!)

About 20 pints i reckon for 2 adults, 2 kids, mostly cereal for the kids, tea and coffee for the adults.

Normally we would get a 6pint bottle twice a week but not been able to get a 6 pint in well over a month so DH, who works in a supermarket, is bringing home 4 pints every other day and one is in the supermarket shop whenever we can get a delivery or pick up slot. If DH forgets or can’t bring any home we run out that day.

Most of the extra is going in tea for me as I’m furloughed from work and drinking at least one cup of tea an hour from the time I get up until I start prepping dinner.

bluechameleon · 29/04/2020 08:53

2 adults 2 small children - we get 14 pints a week delivered. Occasionally need to top up if we've had something milky like macaroni cheese. Weve added on a couple of pints to our pre-lockdown order to account for more hot drinks during the day.

DishRanAwayWithTheSpoon · 29/04/2020 08:58

Me and DP get 4 pints a week between us from the milkman. Used to sometimes have a bit left before lockdown, now we drink it all. We do both work full time still, reckon might need 6 if we were both home all the time

Dp has cereal everyday too! And Im a big tea/coffee drinker but tbf never really have cereal.

This is crazy! I cant beleive how much milk some people drink, your fridge must be 90% milk at the moment! I didnt think there would be so much variation. Might have a glass of milk now actually Grin

RenegadeMrs · 29/04/2020 09:05

I was staggered to learn that when DP is home its about 8 -10 pints a week! There are two adults and a 3 year old in the house. Normally I'd say 6 pints.

We all have cereal and DP drinks tea, where as I don't. DD and DP will also have glasses of milk with biscuits for a snack.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 29/04/2020 09:18

2 adults, 12 pints. We drink a LOT of hot drinks and eat cereal.
