Three adults in the house - how much milk per week?

Sadik · 28/04/2020 21:24

We seem to be going through an average of 20 pints a week, pretty much all in tea/coffee (porridge or pancakes on a Sunday morning maybe). That doesn't even include all the milk dd & I drink as we're both working out of the house around 3 days a week (key workers).

Never counted before as I don't usually shop weekly, but I'm now wondering how much tea per day is too much!

10 pints of whole milk for the toddler and 6pints for 2 adults

Chewbecca · 28/04/2020 21:45

2 adults and a teen here, with the teenager eating a lot of cereal, DH has milky coffees daily plus we drink a fair amount of tea.

Consequently we get through a 4 pint carton at least every other day, probably a little more, so I reckon 16 pints a week.

Bit confused how tea alone would get to more than that, you must drink a massive volume of very milky tea.

Sadik · 28/04/2020 21:47

Just totting it up, I drink around 6 cups of tea a day, classic builders tea - strong with lots of milk (only saving grace is that unless things are really bad I don't put sugar in it), dd probably the same. DP drinks loads of very strong very milky coffee and actually does have muesli with milk for breakfast sometimes. I sometimes drink ovaltine before bed too, though not so much at this time of year.

Like a pp says, we won't be getting osteoporosis Grin I guess also if we didn't drink that much milk, I'd be buying more other food instead.... (DD is 5 foot & 7 stone, I know now why my mum used to complain of my hollow legs back in the day, god only knows where she puts it all)

2 Adults, 12 pints.

heretobeanonymous · 28/04/2020 21:48

In our household there is 2 adults and one toddler. Toddler has whole milk about twice a day and in cereal and DH goes crazy on cereal sometimes so between 12-16 pints a week for us Grin

Sadik · 28/04/2020 21:48

"As much as milk as the 3 adults want it need, is the answer."

Yes, but I do sometimes feel I'm supporting the Welsh dairy industry singlehanded!

I don’t drink the horrible stuff but DH and 4 yo dd get through 11-15 pints each week (11 pints standard, and sometimes i get an extra 4-pt to fill in the gaps). Thank god for the milk man!

womaninatightspot · 28/04/2020 21:49

About 32 pints here 4 children and two adults. Cereal, DC drink a lot of milk, I like my hot drinks milky. It's a rare day that I don't have to open a fresh, 4 pint, carton. Wasn't so bad when DC at school also easy to pop into coop for extra milk on the school run. Now I look like crazy stockpi;ing lady.

MountainPeakGeek · 28/04/2020 21:50

4 adults (but only 2 of us have cereal) and I thought our weekly usage of 8 litres (what's that - about 14 pints?) was ridiculous.

bruffin · 28/04/2020 21:50

4 adults about 6pints and 1carton of oat milk

RingtheBells · 28/04/2020 21:50

About 10 pints a week for 2 of us. That is tea, coffee, cereal, and about 1 pint a week on angel delight

Apolloanddaphne · 28/04/2020 21:54

3 adults here. We use maybe 3 pints a week at most. None of us put milk in tea or coffee and only DH has milk in cereal. I use the odd bit in cooking. We are not really a milky family.

DazzlingDee · 28/04/2020 21:58

40 pints a week!

2 adults / 2 children and 4-6 pints a week. We have this in teas/coffees/porridge and the odd glass here and there. Kids sometimes have hot chocolate. None of us eat cereal.

BlueJava · 28/04/2020 21:59

4 adults here (2 are teens) we use about 20 pints a week. Cereals, in tea and coffee and they will drink a pint too - but its not alcohol so I'm happy!

Cityonlockdown · 28/04/2020 22:01

IckleWicklePumperNickle How much is your milkman bill a month? I reckon about £60 Shock

I use about 4 pints a week for me & DD has soya milk.

Pol16 · 28/04/2020 22:04

Three adults - sixteen pints. Not sure how we use that much but apparently we do. Never noticed before but since lock down and having to order on line that’s what we’re getting through.

planningaheadtoday · 28/04/2020 22:05

When all the men are home, all big milk drinkers, we get through 24 pints a week! My daughter and I only have a splash in tea so a pint would do us a few days.

I squealed on Monday when I managed to get a recurring delivery slot with my local dairy. We are having 12 pints delivered by them and 12 on our supermarket shop.

I was struggling to get enough milk with the restrictions in place.

Pythonesque · 28/04/2020 22:10

I think we're using 8 -10 pints a week currently with everyone at home. Only 2 people using it, 1 adult, 1x 17 yr old. The younger teen gets through a few litres of soy milk (which also goes in cooking). Muesli is featuring for breakfast at the moment though!

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 28/04/2020 22:12

we used to be 40+ pints a week when the children were small...a six pinter a day at least.

I am going out to get more tomorrow...I was out on sunday and bought two 4 pints, we had 1spare and a dreg of blue milk in another ...there's enough for breakfast I reckon tomorrow. so that's 12 pints and three of us since sunday

I wouldn't mind but I mainly drink black coffee!

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 28/04/2020 22:15

2 adults here. We get through between 6 and 8 pints.
DH has filtered milk as he has a slight dairy intolerance, and has cereal before bed EVERY night without fail. So I get him 4 pints.
I just have a lot of tea, between 4 and 7 cups a day and get through between 2 and 4 pints a week.
Every week I will need buy the filtered milk for dh and then semi skimmed tends to be fortnightly for me, if I run out I will drink filtered haha.

RedSoloCup · 28/04/2020 22:15

2 adults 3 children and about 10 pints a week

Baboutheocelot · 28/04/2020 22:15

We have two adults and two children and use about 2 pints a day. I can only get 8 pints at a time so it means we have to go out twice a week.

Hagisonthehill · 28/04/2020 22:19

I have a pint ifsemi skimmed that lasts more than a week and DD has 4 litres of whole milk a week. She has in cereals but likes glasses of milk each day.

GlowWine · 28/04/2020 22:20

2 adults 2 teens (who don't drink tea or coffee), about 16 pt per week. DH and I probably drink 5 cups of tea/coffee with milk a day the rest goes on cereal, the odd milkshake and the daily hot choc for DD2

Blownaway22 · 28/04/2020 22:25

3 adults, 3 kids (12-16) We go through 2 x 2l cartons per day = 28l per week = 49 pints a week if the google conversion calculator is correct!!
