I've always meant to watch this but never got round to it. I've just finished season 1 and I did like it not quite getting the cult adoration yet though.

But.

Mr Big. What am I missing? Does she know his name? Is it actually Mr Big? When did he give her any clue that he wanted something serious? It seemed perfectly clear that he wanted something casual and there she was stalking him at church with his mother and demanding that he tells her he loves her!

Oh I found Charlotte more annoying than Carrie, wanted to shake her a lot of the time. But Harry was so sweet.

WinterBerry7 · 29/04/2020 13:10

I want a Harry Blush

stakeholderwizz · 29/04/2020 13:16

Carrie is a
Massive dick a lot of the time and yet she sits in high judgement over the others - it gets more annoying the more you watch it!

Loved SATC! peak for me is series 2 to half way through series 4. Can’t bear second half of 4 and all of 5 but series 6 is good. The ‘xxxx you’re the one’ line from Miranda (won’t say who cos of spoilers) gets me every time! That whole scene warms my heart. I like Carrie in the main, and I still adore the fashions in there. Wouldn’t bother with the films.

BemidjiMinnesota · 29/04/2020 13:46

The second film is an actual crime against humanity though.

Dirky · 29/04/2020 13:46

Oh good trip down nostalgia lane Grin

I agree it’s very dated now and as someone who watched it in their early 20s the way they behave is NOT a good emotionally healthy template for city living Shock

Still got some cracking scenes and dialogue though

Samantha: “ Dump him now! Here, you can use my phone to do it.”

Also although they do touch on the issue of money (Carrie and her apartment anyone?) let’s face it all of them would be in debt and living in a Zone six flatshare on their incomes and the amount they spend on eating out and clothes.

I watched sex and the city two last year (just to complete the storylines , I know it got bad reviews) and tbh you could see how dated it all looked

Samantha’s behaviour just looked weird and attention seeking?

amusedbush · 29/04/2020 13:52

Argh, it was free on Prime for ages and I kept meaning to rewatch - they must have taken it off really recently.

It hasn't aged well and they're all annoying in their own ways, but I still love the show!

BakedCam · 29/04/2020 13:54

Oh nostalgic, OP.

I loved SATC and the first film is passable. The second was terrible.

The dialogue was good in it. Team Miranda here. I did love Samantha though. Excellent one liners but there is no doubt that Miranda was the queen of one liners.

Dirky · 29/04/2020 13:54

This is a little bit funny - if you click on Active Conversations there’s lots of Carrie and Boris threads and then there’s this Carrie and Mr Big one Smile

John Preston

I only watched one episode. The dark one was wanging on about oral sex the whole time. It was the day I realised I'm a bit of a prude.

byvirtue · 29/04/2020 14:03

If you love SATC, search for the Origins podcast there are 3 or 4 episodes where they talk to everyone (except Kim Cattrell obvs) for the 20th anniversary. Its AMAZING and reflects on the series 20 years on, the actor who played big (forget his name) hated BIG!

I started watching it when I was 16 (i'm 36 now) was vaguely horrified when rewatching it recently that Charlotte says she is 34 they always seemed so much older and sophisticated (they still do!).

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 29/04/2020 14:05

Dr Robert was my fav fella- who the hell would pick Steve over him!!!

TaighNamGastaOrt · 29/04/2020 14:07

I've just finished binge watching all of it again! It's available on sky, every series! I loved it at the time and still enjoyed watching it again.
Carrie isn't very likable but for me it was always about their lovely friendship and how they talked about issues that weren't openly discussed at the time. They dealt with issues like menopause, small willys and sex and did it with humour.
That's why I liked it.
Miranda was always my fave too, she's got her feet on the ground!
And Big.... he's still hot! I loved that he and Carrie always laughed 😊

BusterTheBulldog · 29/04/2020 14:15

Ooh thanks @byvirtue will look that up, totally agree on the age thing too! Carrie’s birthday party for example when she’s thirty five Blush I’m 37 now and still see them as older!

mrsjg · 29/04/2020 14:17

If you have a spare 10 minutes then watch Mark Kermode's rant about SATC2 on YouTube. It's fantastic.

Ritascornershop · 29/04/2020 16:55

I found Carrie terribly annoying - she’s be this fairly spirited woman when with her friends then turn into an eyelash fluttering, coy, impression of a teenager attempting to flirt person when any man hoved into view. I was surprised this wasn’t addressed in the show.

Harry and Steve were wonderful. Steve and the moon, that’s the kind of man most of us want. Honest and shows up for the day to day stuff. Reliable and kind.

Chris Noth (Big) is very handsome, but he’s the one most of us should avoid (commitment issues). It gave me the creeps that Carrie was always trying to bully him into saying he loved her - it’s not worth anything if you get it that way.

BlueTongueSkink · 29/04/2020 17:29

@mrsjg I've just watched that Mark Kermode review/rant you mentioned. Brilliant and very true!

6FeetBack · 29/04/2020 18:03

Oh don't worry about spoilers, I think I knew most of the big names through other people chatting anyway.

I'm weirdly really looking forward to the rest of it, although I can't binge on it like other shows.

Ahhh I love satc, might need to rewatch it now!
@Cuddling57 I cried at that part too.

The two episodes that stand out most for me were the one where Miranda's baby was born and the one with Miranda's wedding.

(Sorry op you probs didnt start this hoping for lots of spoilers!)

Almostfifty · 29/04/2020 21:27

@MyKingdomforaNameChange, I agree, Smith was definitely the best.

Absolutely gorgeous man.

MrsBobBlackadder · 29/04/2020 21:43

Oh Dr Robert...

Eaudeunaturale · 29/04/2020 21:56

Not sure if anyone’s mentioned yet but I noticed it on now tv entertainment yesterday, not sure if it’s all seasons and how long it’s available for

Dualipa · 29/04/2020 22:12

Love that show! I binged the whole box set about 10 years ago and would do it again if my toddler let me watch ANY tv at all !

Purpleartichoke · 29/04/2020 22:18

I lived the show, despite Carrie. She was just such an awful person. So selfish and so irresponsible. Big was/is a horrible person too, so I guess it’s good they paired up and saved other people from being with them.

The other women were interesting people with real lives.
