Can any SATC fans eplain this to me- Carrie and Mr Big?

I've always meant to watch this but never got round to it. I've just finished season 1 and I did like it not quite getting the cult adoration yet though.

But.

Mr Big. What am I missing? Does she know his name? Is it actually Mr Big? When did he give her any clue that he wanted something serious? It seemed perfectly clear that he wanted something casual and there she was stalking him at church with his mother and demanding that he tells her he loves her!

I loved the first film too. I went through something similar myself, so it was close to the bone for me. But the second film, what kak!!

I used to really like sex & the city, but never much liked Carrie. Liked Samantha for the comedy, Charlotte because she was sweet, if stupid, and was a bit meh about Miranda. Think I’d only like Miranda nowadays. I never saw the attention in Big (selfish and a bit plain for me). In the real world he’d have been with a Charlotte type (or Natasha!).

Miranda is the only one of the characters who is remotely believable. The rest seem to have hordes of men desperate to sleep with them, who are summoned with a weird pick up line.

He was the best of the buch- just a regular guy, but he didn't take any crap off Miranda

Carrie was a huge needy, whiney, controlling stalker from day one.
You can see it in all her relationships, especially watching it in the modern day.

I am very jealous that you're getting to experience this for the first time though. It was one of my favourites way back.
The fashion still makes me happy to this day.

God I love it. I put the box set on to remind me of my child free days when I went out every night and had random adventures.

The clothes are amazing. New York is amazing. All the men are idiots and the women are neurotic. It's very dysfunctional.

In the SATC era, Women's magazines of the Cosmo ilk pretty much encouraged your to be needy in the Carrie bradshaw way. It was only one step up from the everybody dubiously in therapy of the mid 90s, though.

I was a huge fan but even so, don't watch the second film. It's horrendous and racist.

I have been rewatching this too! I am enjoying it, but it is very much of its time. Poor Aiden, Carrie treated him so badly.

I'm very jealous that your getting to enjoy SATC for the first time. I can't rewatch it anymore as the older I become the less patience I have for Carrie, I'm on the verge of hating her. I did the same 180 switch with Miranda, hated her on the first run and now I love her.

I tried to watch SATC but never liked it. I thought Carrie was horribly needy even then, and a stalker (but called her a potential bunny boiler at the time).
Mind you, I never liked Friends either.
I was a miserable git even in my 20s .

For anyone who's interested in rewatching all seasons where on NOWTB a few months back. They do take shows down more frequently than Netflix tho so double check before signing up, I've cancelled my subscription

I loved this so much when it first came out. Took Carrie far too seriously but identified most with Miranda. Samantha was a bit of a caricature but quite groundbreaking in her lack of shame about her sexuality. Now I see how needy and manipulative Carrie is. First film moved me, second film is unbelievably bad. Quite tempted to watch the series all again now.

I think watching it now won't have the same effect as it was a program of its time. I adore it as I was in my late teens and early 20's watching it at the time. You do find out Mr Bigs name not not for a long while!

I got the complete box SATC box set for £5.00 from either The Entertainer or Music Magpie.

Oh I loved this when I was around 19-21! I even got the box set for my 21st and used to binge watch it! Carrie is deluded and annoying as hell! Charlotte was a royal pain in the backside! Samantha was ace and Miranda is probably the one that I can relate to now that I’m nearly 40! When I watch it back now I have to forward it as I don’t have the patience! Miranda definitely had the best lines! Don’t watch the second film - shocking!
