Can any SATC fans eplain this to me- Carrie and Mr Big?

I've always meant to watch this but never got round to it. I've just finished season 1 and I did like it not quite getting the cult adoration yet though.

But.

Mr Big. What am I missing? Does she know his name? Is it actually Mr Big? When did he give her any clue that he wanted something serious? It seemed perfectly clear that he wanted something casual and there she was stalking him at church with his mother and demanding that he tells her he loves her!

And yes, with the Big thing you've got to remember that the conceit is that Carrie's narrating the whole thing for her godawful column.

It’s on the comedy channel on sky at about 10.30 most nights, I think it’s on season 4. I am enjoying rewatching it 🙂

@6FeetBack thank you I’ll have a look on prime .

So you need to watch it all and then both the films

I thought the films were supposed to be crap? Are they essential?

I first watched it when I was 16 and while I loved most of Carrie’s clothes, she is hard work (and she gets worse as time goes on!). I didn’t know how bad she was until I grew up a bit myself.

Miranda has always been been my favourite and Samantha is a great friend- far more loyal than Carrie. Charlotte annoys the fuck out of me, possibly more than Carrie does in a lot of ways.

Monst3ra · 28/04/2020 20:44

Don't bother with the films.

ListeningQuietly · 28/04/2020 20:50

Aidan was nicer

and I'd had a crush on Mikail Baryshnikov since I was 10

and if you like Aidan, watch Northern Exposure

BuffaloCauliflower · 28/04/2020 20:50

I grew up on this, it was pivotal to me. I thought I was a Samantha but I’ve ended up being Charlotte. Without her apartment or wardrobe unfortunately.
It has dated but so have lots of things, doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy them for what they are and the impact they had at the time.

mindutopia · 28/04/2020 20:58

As everyone else said pretty much.

Mr Big used to live near my office when I lived in NYC like decades ago. It was a university area and he used to hang out at the Starbucks on the corner getting fawned over by all the 18 year old who were obsessed with SATC. He came across as just as creepy and gross in real life.

x2boys · 28/04/2020 21:00

I never saw the appeal with Mr Big myself ,Aiden was much sexier imo

Haggisfish · 28/04/2020 21:03

Northern exposure-yes!!!

Mixingitall · 28/04/2020 21:05

I loved it whilst it was on, and went to New York twice and did the tour twice and loved it BUT I have tried to watch the film in the last 6 months and cringed at Samantha the entire film. I think my love of it was linked to the time in my life, mid twenties and being in awe of their glamorous lives. Now I’m 40, like some one up post said you see that Carrie was deluded and should have married Aidan! He was the hot one.

CatBatCat · 28/04/2020 21:07

He's a creep and she's a weed. They're made for each othet

FelicityJaneGrace · 28/04/2020 21:08

Aiden was as fit as! Each time I watch the re runs I want to shout at carrie for being such a cow. Don't get me started on Pete!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 28/04/2020 21:09

I’d love to rewatch, think my dvds are in the garage.
I believed in the love between Carrie and Big - just didn’t like him- I’m team Aidan! Big was better than Burger though!

Confusedasusual78 · 28/04/2020 21:09

Ahh, I loved it back in the day and wanted to be Carrie when I grew up (I was late teens so already grown up, but you know 🤷‍♀️)
My plan was to live in New York and have a fabulously glamorous life with no kids!

6FeetBack · 28/04/2020 21:10

I can't decide whether to google Aidan and see him for myself or enjoy the revelation Grin

After that you should watch Girls. I really enjoyed it. It's a bit similar but a more modern twist on it. Ends very well too. I'm not a fan of Lena Dunham but it's a good show and Adam Driver is amazing in it.

Cuddling57 · 28/04/2020 21:18

I cried my eyes out in the cinema watching the film. When Carrie travels across the city on New Year's Eve. In my defence I was going through a divorce at the time Blush.

Whitney168 · 28/04/2020 21:22

Big was better than Burger though!

Burger was surely the most irritating character of the whole programme, can’t imagine why she bothered..

WinterBerry7 · 28/04/2020 21:22

@FelicityJaneGrace wasn’t Pete Aidan’s dog?! Or am I missing the point 😂

clumsyduck · 28/04/2020 21:23

Oh I loved Aidan Blush

BuffaloCauliflower · 28/04/2020 21:47

@Cuddling57 I cried too

gaggiagirl · 28/04/2020 21:55

You must watch the first film! You really must!
I bawled my eyes out at a few scenes (going through rough break up at the time) I really resonated with me at the time.
The second film is shit.

ListeningQuietly · 28/04/2020 22:05

Back in the day I used to watch Thirty Something is old
