Mine is D. B. Cooper. He hijacked a beong 727, stole $1.25 million in today's money, and parachuted down to earth with it. His identity is unknown and it's unknown if he survived the plunge to earth.

Must be terrible fir a loved one to just disappear. I often wonder if there's some kind of abuse going on tho. I mean it could be the only way out you see to just start a new life away.

I agree. Although some will do it as a smug way of saying, 'up yours.' Also, some use disappearing (again) as a threat in the same way some threaten to, 'end it all' to ensure things go their way and are never criticised.

HopeMumsnet · 05/05/2020 14:22

Hi all,
You will notice that we have made several deletions. It's no secret that MNHQ considers that posts speculating about the death of a child who is still missing are not in the spirit of the site.
To pre-empt the usual howls of indignation, we'd like to be clear that this is our long-standing policy and we are applying it as we usually do, without any outside interference. If you see further examples we would greatly appreciate it if MNers would report them.
Please do have care when you discuss these sensitive matters.

Lordfrontpaw · 05/05/2020 14:30

'howls of indignation' is a pretty horrible expression to use. We aren't a pack of rabid dogs you know.

Pinkarsedfly · 05/05/2020 14:45

Dear me, deletion messages are very snotty these days, aren’t they?

Lordfrontpaw · 05/05/2020 14:52

'look, bitches, just shaddup, ok???' Grin

Lordfrontpaw · 05/05/2020 14:53

(bet they weren't anticipating that howl of indignation)

lyralalala · 05/05/2020 14:54

@Londonsuffolkmummy That sounds like an interesting one

Anonimity orders are usually only granted when the killer is a child

There is a case I've heard of where the details were kept anonymous because the man abused and killed his daughter. He also abused several other children in the family. His name was never released because it would identify the children he abused. That was 2000s though, not 1980s

DrMaryMalone · 05/05/2020 14:55

Yes I've also heard various rumours regarding Alan bryant and believe his poor parents are correct in their insistence that he has been killed. I just wasn't sure how much we are allowed to say on active cases in here. In any case I hope someone will come forward soon with information that might lead to some actual evidence.

Hi all,
We have a long history of modding this type of discussion (and MNers have a long history of being modded on this type of discussion) so please forgive us a little exasperation this time around.
We need to be clear about our guidelines - the alternative is removing the whole thread. Hopefully you can work with us on this and continue to report anything that you are uncomfortable with.

BlueSkiesEveryDay · 05/05/2020 15:00

Stay home, stay safe. Glad we have the internet to entertain ourselves with. Oh wait....

MulticolourMophead · 05/05/2020 16:07

As for more modern times, I don't think the whole truth ever came out about what Hindley and Brady did. I've read a lot about the case over the years, and some aspects just do not make sense. I suspect there was a crime scene that the police never found.

I suspect there was more that never reached the public. But the pair escalated pretty quickly, it was only ever a matter of time before they were caught.

ChampagneCommunist · 05/05/2020 18:15

I am intrigued by the case @Londonsuffolkmummy mentions.

Am googling all sorts, but no luck so far

Frownette · 05/05/2020 18:18

Me neither @ChampagneCommunist!

Soen · 05/05/2020 18:28

I havent read the full thread but a big one for me is the disappearance of Richie Edwarda from the manic street preachers. So bizarre.

Also Carol Baskin's husband. Weird.

TheSmallClangerWhistlesAgain · 05/05/2020 18:33

What was the name of the woman in londonsuffolkmummy's post?

A friend of mine had a relative who went missing. For a while, there was a police investigation and his family thought he had died. It turned out he had disappeared on purpose - the police did find him but because he was over 18 and not technically vulnerable, all they could do was let the family know he was safe and well but did not wish to return home or speak to them. He did reappear about 12 years later.

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 05/05/2020 18:36

@lyralalala can you give a name as a clue please?

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 05/05/2020 18:38

Carole Baskin. She fed to him to tigers they were snackin’ Wink

louderthan1 · 05/05/2020 22:31

Dyatlov Pass
Sodder children
Amy Lynn Bradley
Rebecca Corrigan

lyralalala · 05/05/2020 22:43

I've googled and can't find anything on the case @Londonsuffolkmummy mentioned either. It sounds intriguing

@YesIDoLoveCrisps I can't sorry. I only know it as Person X or Girl B type code.

YesIDoLoveCrisps · 05/05/2020 23:23

I can’t figure out who it is. Can anyone?

Welshponyslave · 06/05/2020 06:40

Wateriswide- the man who went missing from the seaside toilet happened in Saltburn.
We live nearby and go regularly (well
Before lockdown!) and had only heard about it from last year.
A strange case.

AllianceOfCorcles · 06/05/2020 07:19

Just been reading about Steven Clarke the missing man in Saltburn. Utterly bizarre more so it’s such an unknown case. The information in the public domain is very gappy. There are some reddit posts that try and outline possibilities but due to lack of background info on Steven they are vague suggestions only.

Sparklytori · 06/05/2020 07:52

Shamelessly place marking so I can make a list and read about these later x

AllianceOfCorcles · 06/05/2020 08:47

Someone on thread recommended Stephanie hawley on YouTube thank you :) watch her take on the one we can’t mention, currently watching her Caylee Anthony ones

AprilJune · 06/05/2020 09:09

Do you mean Stephanie Harlowe? I listened to 2 minutes of her nasal whine and couldn’t bear any more. Judging by the comments under the video I can guess who she thinks is responsible 🙄
