Imagine you’re at a buffet table, what do you put on your plate?

The longest buffet table imaginable: loads of options.

What do you go for?

(I’m bored, hungry and love a buffet!)

Not a lot. It's my worst nightmare for eating.

BackforGood · 24/04/2020 21:59

Lots of lovely fresh, small sandwiches. White bread. Triangles. Fairly plain - don't mind a bit of tomato or cucmber but not loads of exotic leaves.
Some vol au vents (never see them anymore Sad
Some little cocktail sausages glazed in honey.
Pickled onions

In truth, anything small that you can pop in whole - don't want to have to wrestle with a plastic knife and fork with a paper plate balanced on my lap. Smile

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/04/2020 22:01

I'd like some of the cheese and pineapple on sticks and cocktail onions and cheese on sticks as well, please.

RedRed9 · 24/04/2020 22:02

Sorry to hear that @sanityisamyth is there anything we can tempt you with at all? Would you like a drink?

@RedRed9 Gin and Tonic sounds good. Cheers! Gin

Lindy2 · 24/04/2020 22:08

I love buffets.

Assuming it's a quite nice/posh buffet I would go for:

  • some shell on prawns
  • smoked salmon
  • little satay chicken skewers
  • a dainty egg mayo sandwich or 2
  • olives
  • some cheese and fancy crackers
  • more smoked salmon
  • sushi
  • potato salad
  • coleslaw
  • and cocktail sausages

I'm hungry now and longing to be able to go somewhere where there would be a buffet.

gnomeisland · 24/04/2020 22:11

All the prawns.
Every which way you can imagine.
I loves the prawns but developed a bad allergy a while back.

Fantasy lock down prawn buffet.

OpthalmosVerde · 24/04/2020 22:11

I stay in a hotel alone for 2 nights every other month for work/study and I have a hotel picnic each time, sod being sociable with other delegates.

Mini scotch eggs
Cheese stuffed cherry peppers
Dip/spread and posh crackers
Cherry tomatoes
Charcuterie pack
Olives
Mini cheeses

Some kind of individual posh dessert and a couple of bottles of mini wine and I’m a happy camper.

CherryPavlova · 24/04/2020 22:15

What a fun wheeze!

Salmon with a watercress sauce.
Herbed potato salad
Green salad
Beetroot and orange salad
Julienne vegetable salad
Tomato salad.

DoAsYouWouldBeMumBy · 24/04/2020 22:15

Any kind of quiche, couscous, salad, bread. Maybe falafel and hummus if it's an exciting kind of buffet 🤩

evilharpy · 24/04/2020 22:16

The best buffet is a breakfast buffet, preferably in the hotel in Spain we stayed in last summer.

Bread
Bread
Bread
Different type of bread
Toast
Pancakes
Churros
Desserts left over from last night's dinner
Cake
Yogurt
Fruit
Cheese
Cold cooked meats including a really garlicky reformed ham thing
Little mini cooked chorizo, best things EVER
Fried egg
Orange juice
Coffee

Francina670 · 24/04/2020 22:19

My buffet is in the function room at the club:

Cheese and pineapple on a stick
Mini sausage roll
Pizza with tiny bits of chopped pepper on
Selection of crap crisps
Chocolate finger (hopeful)

No sandwich as will definitely contain margarine

Rockbird · 24/04/2020 22:19

Cold salmon, bloody lots of it
Quiche
French bread
Sausage rolls if they look nice
Potato salad
Vol au vents
Anything spring roll/samosas/onion bhajis etc
More salmon
Some cucumber garnish to make it look healthy.

Shouldbedoing · 24/04/2020 22:20

My son ages 10 who has ARFID said 'Yuck! Nothing. Buffets are old peoples ' food!'
All the more for.me then

Tana433 · 24/04/2020 22:27

Are we actually thinking of eating from a buffet table going forward. People not washing their hands and handling the food. Breathing, coughing etc all over it Sorry to be a Debbie Downer but no thanks. I will have a drink or two though

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 24/04/2020 22:30

All of it, washed down with plenty of chilled wine.

stellabelle · 24/04/2020 22:30

Prawns, prawns and prawns.

DaphneFanshaw · 24/04/2020 22:33

Quiche.
Falafel
Pakora
Sausage rolls.
Cold roasted meat.
Salad.
Tabbouleh
Crusty bread and butter.
They probably shouldn’t be seen on a plate together but that’s the beauty of it.

DaphneFanshaw · 24/04/2020 22:34

Oh yes and prawns

DaphneFanshaw · 24/04/2020 22:34

And probably salmon too.

justasking111 · 24/04/2020 22:34

At a holiday resort, freshly made mango juice, heaven.
